I recently got Adam Adamant Lives! on DVD.

Adam Adamant Lives was a BBC TV series between 1966 and 1967 and was intended to be the BBC's answer to the ITV's The Avengers.

Reading from Wikipedia, Adam Adamant Lives was created by Donald Cotton and Richard Harris and developed by Doctor Who creator Sydney Newman (who ironically had created The Avengers himself) and Tony Williamson.

The series was produced by Verity Lambert.

From Wikipedia:
"Adam Adamant Lives! has been called by modern observers "what Doctor Who did next", due to the fact that at least three Doctor Who alumni had key positions on the pilot. Most obviously, it re-teamed producer Verity Lambert with Head of Television Drama, Sydney Newman. Together, they had been at the core of decision makers who launched Doctor Who. But the series also brought Donald Cotton, who had the same year written two serials for Doctor Who".

A Vintage Year for Scoundrels:
Season 1, Episode 1.
A very good start to the series with good leads in Gerald Harper and Juliet Harmer.
With Adam Adamant cryogenically frozen and not revived until much later it is without a doubt that Adam Adamant became the inspiration for Austin Powers.
Interestingly the credits says that additional material was by co-creator Donald Cotton and this episode featured Ivor Salter who had appeared as Odysseus in the Doctor Who serial The Myth Makers and that was written by Cotton as well.

More Deadly Than The Sword:
Season 1, Episode 3.
Adam and Georgina goes to Japan to recovered some photos used to blackmail the British government.
Pretty enjoyable episode and quite an amusing end to it when Georgina says what happened when she went to the British embassy and Adam saying why Britain is no longer an empire.

The Sweet Smell of Disaster:
Season 1, Episode 4.
Not a bad episode in presenting the theme of addiction.
Plus Bud Tingwell makes for a good villain here.

Beauty Is An Ugly Word:
Season 1, Episode 12.
What is interesting about this episode is that it featured two people who later appeared in Doctor Who's Key To Time, Peter Jeffrey* and Barry Jackson, although in different stories but both were directed by Michael Hayes.
This episode also guest stars the lovely Annette Andre in one of many shows that she had appeared in. Too bad she did not appeared in Doctor Who.
The plot concerning Peter Jeffrey's character wanting to destroy the world in order to build a new one was handled well in the episode's direction. However the one frustrating thing about the episode is that police constable who was very unhelpful to Georgina.
Peter Jeffrey's character intended to destroy the world by using a virus. Interestingly Jeffrey later appeared in an episode of the original series of Survivors which presented a world in which most of the population was wiped out by a virus.

*In fact I watched Beauty Is An Ugly Word at the same time that I am currently watching Peter Jeffrey on Doctor Who: The Androids of Tara DVD.

The League of Uncharitable Ladies:
Season 1, Episode 13.
Directed by Ridley Scott. Yes you read that right Ridley Scott. This is the only Ridley Scott-directed episode that still exist as the ones he directed for season 2 have been wiped out.
Very good plot in which wives of important men have been hypnotised in killing their husbands.
Also a very good villain played by John Carson.
A superb direction by Scott.

The Village of Evil:
Season 1, Episode 15.
Very good episode dealing with devil worship in a village with a sinister villain played by John Bailey.
It is also fun to see Georgina completely oblivious to any of it.

D For Destruction:
Season 1 finale.
Among the guest cast is Patrick Troughton. This was actually his last role before becoming the Second Doctor in Doctor Who as it was shown on October 13 1966 and his first appearance as the Doctor in the final episode of The Tenth Planet was shown sixteen days later on October 29 1966.
Also in this episode is Michael Sheard. Michael Sheard was Doctor Who's prolific guest actor having appeared with most of the Doctors during Doctor Who's original 26 year run. In Adam Adamant, Michael Sheard does not have scenes with Troughton and ironically Troughton was not one of the Doctors he had appeared with in Doctor Who.
As for D For Destruction itself, pretty good storyline involving a military exercise being used as a cover for blackmailing the government.

D For Destruction also featured Iain Cuthbertson. In a sad coincidence saw him in the photo gallery from makeyp artist Jo Young's pictures mere hours before learning of his passing at DoctorWhoNews.com.
