Hello, people! Time for our Regular Poll!

This time, we have the last poll of the year, so let's just have a little fun looking back on the year 2010.

As this can be quite personal, this poll is anonymous so you can vote without telling everyone what you voted for. If you'd like to, though, please comment!

Thanks for your participation, people. See you next year!

In Majestic's and my case this year totally sucked and got off to a bad start....

First off I had surgery and got a heap of bad news about my disease,

Then my specialist said everything was ok and nothing to worry about...

Then our landlord decided rather than fixing the critical things like wall coming away from the floor in the bathroom and possible house falling apart and fixing the plumbing between the 2 bathrooms so both toilets worked properly he was kicking us out for asking for the repairs.... And because of this *and various other issues brought on by Maj's family interfering* we had to post-pone the wedding yet again...

Then both mine and Maj's family decided they were not gonna take the kids for our pre-wedding honeymoon... Luckily an awesome friend I met only once took them for us and the kids loved it!

Maj's parents finally got their divorce and each are blaming the other however they are taking it out on their children and bringing them into the disagreement.

Disease got worse so seeked a second opinion and found out not only did my 1st specialist stuff up but his report claimed that I required mass further surgeries to remedy my problem at least partially and that it had done damage to various organs *no wonder I'm always in so much pain!*

After all this, it is amazing Majestic and myself have any sanity left whatsoever!

However... 2011 looks to be a better year *cross fingers!*

Our plans: March/April new surgeries to hopefully help with my disease

April: Our wedding! Finally! It will be a relatively small affair due to the strict amount of massive saving we must do in the next 6months and wont be able to afford what we had originally wanted. To which we are asking our guests that if they wish to give us a gift to help with our saving program towards our awesome goal considering how expensive it will be for us..

Read this part AFTER the above part please :p

June/July(hopefully):
The reason for our mass saving...... IVF so we can have a baby! With any luck it will go first or second shot at most!

So I'm really hoping 2011 is better than 2010 which was a massive emotional rollercoaster for us both!

Rough couple of years for me too. Everything from losing a parent, to getting attacked and assaulted at work. I'm just hoping for a normal year without incident.

And.....yay for baby Majestics:cool:

Yeah pretty much what Kat has said, she has covered it. Well apart from my anxiety and other mental problems flaring up a lot this year due to all the poop we have had to deal with.

Thanks Avon. :lol2:

@Katala&Maj: I hope your plans will be fulfilled :D All the luck with your treatment, too!

@Avon: That sounds horrible. May you have a better 2011.

2010.....
Made my EMT-B qualification, working a lot. I managed to get a car, lol.
Actually, 2010 started off with me being on holidays in a small Canarian island (la Gomera). Then working at a hospital (starting one days after my return from Spain) for a month. And then work and work. But I make sure that I haver proper time off.
In Duisburg (Western Germany, Ruhr-Area) 19 people died and several hundred injured at the 2010 "loveparade" (in earlier years it had been staged in Berlin, without any major incidents). A mass panic erupted and caused casualites. Even though the help arrived too late for several of the people to survive, the medics did an amazing job. Large festivities can be pure stress, even without paniced people.
That was probably the thing that moved me most in 2010 that was on the news.

I don't care much about those TV shows "This was 2010" were they select the events for you.
This is what wikipedia gives you: 2010 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

2010 was ok, coulda been better! There are a few things that would better improve (payment.... etc). 2010 was the first year were I felt really healthy again. I had two colds (and a few hangovers, I admit that.. but never on duty!). Work is good for me (my whole family is like that) and I feel how I am getting physically stronger, lol.

I hope you guys have a great new year's eve. I'll be at work! :D

Mine has ended badly.... I just had my laptop stolen when it was laying 3 in from my head after I passed out. Yahoo refuses to let me change my password too....Changing my password everywhere just to be safe. Although I doubt very much whomever took it will be able to do anything with it.

2010: My worst year ever. Starting and continuing with serious private life conflicts, losing my last free summer only with sitting at home and do nothing, looking for my place in the world in the last few months... OK, December was cool, but I'm glad it's over.

But I'm happy, because - as it was my worst - every year will be better than this one was :lol2:

Well I have been out of work since April. Aparently I can't get a job around here right now because I don't have a job. Don't ask because I don't understand it either:rolleyes:. My stepson has decided that lying and cheating others is a better way to go then being honest and working hard. He spent all of our part of break doing the english homework from the first half of the school year. His Dad has him back now so he I proably parked infront of a TV doing nothing and geting fatter. 360 lb and rising. My wife lost her job in late october:cry: and only just got on at a local Waffal House and only because she had worked there before. Hoping that next year I can make some gains against the chaos.:(

That must really suck, I have two step-sons and one step-daughter, the youngest two live with us, while the oldest (almost 15 years now) lives with his father in QLD and does the lying and stealing thing, following in his fathers footsteps. Thankfully the two here are good kids and do the right thing. :)

I feel pretty bad now... 2010 was actually good for me ; started the actual main part of my degree, been relatively healthy, and had no problems with family or anything of the sort.

I hope everyone else has a better 2011 though. I like K_merse's optimism

Wow, well after reading all them, my 2010 is really anticlimactic. I got my old job back in medical research (from before my "worldwide teaching tour"), moved out into first flat of my own, and... well, that's it really... sorry :-(

Wise person once said

There is a greater Darkness then the one we fight. It is the darkness of the soul that has lost its way. The war we fight is not against powers and principalities; it is against chaos and dispair. Greater then the death of flesh is the death of Hope, the death of Dreams. Against this peril we can never surrender.

We are all the sum of our tears. To little and the ground is not fertal, and nothing can grow there; to much and the best of us is washed away.

For me this year has had it's up's and down's, over all though this year also hasn't been that good for me and certainly not a year I would want to repeat. Too many unintended negativies..here's hoping for a better future.

Mine was great - I feel so bad now saying this after all of the posts above.

I am settling into my new job (which is so hectic) I am in charge of the purchasing, commercial and contracting aspects of two projects in West Africa (which is the reason I am so slow to reply to anyone and also why I am not modding anymore... :( ) These projects are worth around 25million USD combined... Its a mind blowing responsibility and there is always so much paperwork... But I do get to travel to interesting places, so thats kinda cool. I also got my first corporate credit card... I actually got a little tearful...

I think the most traumatic thing to happen to me this year was that I broke a tooth on Christmas eve and had to find an emergency dentist to stick it back together... Oh, and being injured (sprained ankle) in the last five minutes of the last preseason friendly for my new football team and missing half the season because of it... that sucked... also some (expletive deleted) thief stole my 7000 kroner mountain bike... and I found my first gray hairs...

A mixed year i think, but mostly positive...

And finally, Kat and Maj - I wish you guys luck with the IVF - I hope all goes your way, you both deserve it!

My year was OK, but it could have been much better. I can't afford college right now and we lost my Social Security Card so I can't get a job until we can pay the fee to replace it. At least I still have my birth certificate or I would have real issues. Internet's been off and on depending when we can and can't pay the bill so I've been getting kind of bored. I guess 2010 kind of sucked, now that I think about it.

LOL maybe ;)

But we already have a real kitten called Luna, she is such a curious little thing *though she is over 6months now and beyond the little stage* and quite often keeps us up at night just like a baby! :p

Well, 2010 was ok for me, could've been better. I had a mixed year with some great things happen (my son was born on 14th of December 2009, so we had his first birthday just before christmas 2010), and my wife and I finally got our own place (we were renting but similar situation to Majestic and Katala and had to move in with my wife's mother for the last couple of months of 2009/and jan 2010, which was not fun in the slightest, so we figured screw it we'll just buy a place). Nothing majorly bad happened as such, I found out I was fructose malabsorptive which explains ALOT of my medical history for the past 20+ years, but also means as I come in to the new year with my outlook for a healthy year looking good now that I've got my diet and everything under control to manage the condition. Funnily enough, I think the worse thing to happen in 2010 was that during the travel chaos in the UK, the presents my parents sent out to us here in Germany for my son's first birthday and christmas mysteriously vanished without a trace before they even arrived in Germany. Oddly though, I was expecting that to happen, since my Mum didn't send them out "Signed For" and when chaos like this occurs, package handlers and sorters in the Royal Mail have a tendency to pick them up and put them in their bags to take home "accidentally". Without any record that is usually kept for "Signed For" packages, there's no way to trace where the package went.

@ Majestic and Katala: I haven't known you guys for long (in fact, this is the second time I've posted in MSFC lol), but I wish you guys all the luck I can in your IVF treatments, having a child is one of the best things in the world, almost as good as winning the lottery (I joke of course :lol2:, really I hope all the best for you guys).

HA! Nice to know we aren't the only ones to get that, though for us it just happens because or post handlers are generally lazy arrogant p.....eople *looks to see if APO are watching...* Just before christmas I ordered a personalised name necklace for Maj's mum and had it sent express post which means it has a tracking number so I can keep en eye on it, which I most certainly did and just as well too! I watched it all day online and at around 12pm it said it was delivered though I knew for a fact it had not been... I rang Australia Post up and complained and they said *well are you sure it wasn't dropped in the mail box out front or given to someone else at the house when you werent there?* I told them straight I had been home ALL day and waiting for it specially and had checked the mail box after the online tracker said it was delivered.

So they tried calling the contractor who had supposedly delivered it, she showed up 20mins later complaining and whining saying *are sure this is even a real address?* as she walked off, unbeknown to her, I was on the phone still with APO at the time while Maj talked to her and I logged a formal complaint with the person on the phone who even double checked that our address was legit I also told them that the package looked as if it had been torn to try and see what was inside it...

LOL kids are awesome! I already have 3 from a previous relationship, 2 of which currently live with Majestic and myself though they are 13*almost 14* and 11*almost 12* see the pill had no effect for me at all when I was young :p Thank you for your well wishes and welcome to MSFC, hope you enjoy it here ;)

Not exactly the same as you, but my body seems to actively fight medicine and other things that are supposed to help. Tylenol, Advil, DayQuil, laughing gas, etc. do absolutely nothing. The only thing that had any effect was a local anesthetic, and that didn't kick in until a good ten minutes after it was expected to and only covered half the area. I've got no idea why I'm so resistant.

I know this is off-topic.

But: have you been in a hospital at a young age and been treated with very potent analgetics? (I dont mean Opioid based like Oxycodon or Dr. House's and George Carlin's Vicodin, more like higher dosage of Paracetamol)
Because with me it is the same. When I have headaches, everything below 1200mg of Paracetamol don't work. Aspirine (being an analgetic medication only seconday, btw. It's main job is to make blood a bit more flouid, planly said) does not work at all. It's a good thing that I rarely have headaches.
I had a very good clinical pain treatment when I was 12 and had a knee injury. I am glad I never had to take the hard stuff... (Morphium, Vicodin etc)

2010 took a turn even though it is 2011. I have been informed that I have to pay back a total of 2.100 Euros taxes... That is more than two months pay for me.
Sure... but since the state thinks I get paid like a law professor... not that I have to spent money on a car and an apartment...

Either: public services like EMS, kindergarten teachers or social workers or nurses (we are not employees of the state, unlike policemen or firemen) get paid more - or: there are tax cuts for those that serve nearly every day under all weather conditions.

A banker with a few millions (Millions? BILLIONS, for christ's sake) on a Swiss number account gets a tax cut... I wonder: This is Germany, right? Not one of the nations that is on the top five of Transparency International's Corruption List.

Sorry for the rant... (Actually I am not sorry... I would like to club my EKG device over the head of Ms Merkel)

Did you fill in your tax forms?
Could be there's a mess up, I had to pay 3.000 last year for a single tax payment in October, obviously it was total nonsense. Got it corrected and got my money back in November (not that they wanted to give me the money back, they wanted to keep it to cover future tax payments :lol2:). Make sure you got everything down correctly in elsterformula, and that you handed in at least a copy of every bill you have to cover any tax returns you got during the year (travel costs, education, health etc).

I had to get stitches once when I was very young, so possibly. I had sliced my thumb open.
