• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

Hey people!
No, not a new poll. :) I was just wondering how many of us here can use the 1.2.5 patch. I heard that people have problems with it, so some modders don't want to use it. Are there any people here having problems with 1.2.5?
Obviously it would be good to know for modders (especially me, see wastelands) to know that most of the MSFCians can actually use whatever gets released.

A good question. I have heard several people mention they cannot use it at all, or FlOps for that matter. I think Starblade is one.
Although I've dabbled with both in the past, I tend to make my mods for the standard game, so everyone can use them

FLOPs just ain't my cuppa, mate. Sorry. I found it far easier to make mods for Stock. Let people decide for themselves whether or not they want to use my stuff with PP1.2.5 or FLOPs. Never bothered with trying to make my stuff compatible with them. If it was, great! Tell the rest of us, please. Never got one email or saw one comment posted about compatibility between 1.2.5 and the Physiscs Project anywhere. Still say Stock with the 1.1 patch applied is the most played and modded version of the game.

Avon's right-- I have never used 1.2.5. I certainly could but I see no real advantage to it. I can run A2 on any given Windows operating system with ease, even Windows 7. I certainly commend the development of the 1.2.5 patch but it seems to have come to its end.

I think your best bet is to shoot for either full FleetOps integration or stick to 1.1, Terra. As thunderfoot points out, FleetOps might introduce all kinds of wicked new features but I don't need any of what it provides. Come to think of it, my A2 build has basically been a "new starship showroom" rather than a fully functional game for the better part of two years, so beyond importing ships and shooting single targets in the map editor, or posing them for PotD/LOLship shots, I don't really know if I'm much help in that regard. (See also: the other thread I started.)

PP is compatible with the pp.:D I am pretty sure the patchproject only added new code and fixed some stuff. It was FO that changed code, and that should all be fixed now with the latest patch(geez you guys must get tired of hearing that:lol2:) in which the FO team changed almost all code back to its original names. I don't think your physics project works in FO though. I have to talk to the devs about it because I wanted to use some of it and the "hover" physics classlabel doesn't seem to work. Something I'm sure they can fix.

Anyway, I am not opposed to the PP, however FO does everything in the pp better, and if people don't want to use one, they probably won't use the other. Also, furtherer development of the patch project has been canceled.

i think the main reason why someone would want to use 1.2.5 is the replaceweapon and improved exception handling. It is necessary for MVAM and separations, and there's no better way to find a bug than take a look at the stack dump, which is presented among other data in the 1.2.5 exception handler. Z is right, A2.1.2.5 is essentially A2.1.1 + replaceweapon + module support + exception handler + compatibility.

But as the kid said, it's not needed if you don't need those features.

me personally...i love using FO for my mod now...and with 'The Hitchhikers Guide to Modding FO' it explains a lot of the new features extremely well... the cannonimp command is one of the best new commands added as well as uniphaser and unitorpedo. Cannonimp giving the ability for true torpedo and phaser bursts and uniphaser and unitorpedo allowing the use of SOD based effects...its really quite something i must say

Honestly, I do the majority of my modding in A1. Basically the only stuff I do for A2 is stuff for H:FC. I'm not even sure where to download the Patch Project, lol.

I used 1.2.5 quite regularly, notably for my own personal Stargate, BSG and Ent era installs. I used it for experimenting with carrier deployments and type upgrades. I never had a single problem with it beyond what I encountered in stock A2. I fully intend on using it with my current personal install (when I get back to it) to allow class upgrades, Promethius MVAM and carriers.

I used PP 1.2.5 as well, without any problems. However, it doesn't add anything to the game except of some new possibilities for modding, like the replaceweapon. If you would like to use it, then use PP as well. But if you don't need it, then you won't need PP either.

A2.1.2.5 is essentially A2.1.1 + replaceweapon + module support + exception handler + compatibility.

See, and I read that as "A21.1 + micromanagement + more micro + exception handler + you don't read SB34 and figure out how to use A2 in Windows"....

I use the PP as I like the restrictbuildlimit option more than the replace weapon option.

However I have recently migrated to FO, it just offers a lot more than the stock game that really hasn't changed in over 10 years and having been modding it since day one I have gotten bored of it personally.

I actually have more fun coming up with new ways of doing weapons and such than i do actually playing a game...ill set up starting units of just a few ships and have them duke it out instead of having to go through researching and building yards and such...

I have tried the PP. cant get it to run (on any compatibility setting) which is strange, as I run 64bit W7 HP... Well, THAT part isn't strange, but I can run stock A2, A1, and FLOPS without much problems... only a little lag where none should exist on stock A2...

The real cast iron ball breaking beyatch is that the model viewer (both the Storm 3d Viewer and the Storm 3d Mesh tool) do not run correctly on my PC... that irritates me more than anything, as modeling and rigging models for game play is pretty much the only modding I can do / am any good at / have any real motivation to do...

But I digress - short answer - no, I don't use it, cant get it to run...:naughty:
