• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

I thought this might be interesting considering we are a multicultural and multinational community. I am sure I am not alone when I say I know very little of other countries.

So this thread is set up for those who want to post a little info about their country, simple hard cold facts about the country they reside in. Lets keep politics, religion and comments like 'my country is the best' etc out. ;)

Well, in my part of the world, Florida, USA, Mother Nature like to "PMS" because it literally can rain on one side of the street, and be a perfect sunny spring day on the other! Literally 20-30 feet away.

Iam a resident of England.

It rains a lot here too.

The weirdest thing is the different "smells" in different places, you can walk from one place to another and be able know where you are by the smell (iam not joking!!!)

Theres roundabouts here that would give a stunt man a headache, with cycle lanes all over the place.

Then theres the TV, its like re-run city, its actually quite hard to find a "new" program (unless you have sky).

Then there is our proud brittish heritage, our Chavs (I will leave that one there!!!!).

I could go on.......

I am currently in Oklahoma,USA. I got you beat on weather. Have you ever had a downpour without a cloud in the sky? Or a double or even triple rainbow? Better yet. It is 80 degrees F. out and in less then an hour it is snowing? These are all things I have seen in Oklahoma. It is way to flat here. I have come into Oklahoma from all directions. As soon as you see the sign that says,"Welcome to Oklahoma." Look down and there is perfect straight line in the grass where the grass dies. :lol2:

a lot of people have spoken about the UK, so i am going to focus on 2 places in England.

1) Bury St Edmunds

this is my home town, Its small, its clean, it is "britains Floral town", its about 2 hours from london, and we have hardly any accidents, the weather is normally quite pleasent, though its more cold than rain.

2) Preston
Pretty much the opposite, i think it is teh biggets City in Lancashire, 2 years in a row now someone has been murdered out side my residence (and ive moved since then!!!) and to top it off, it has the highest amount of rainfall in the UK. Its cold and nsty, but you ghave good days, and it just makes u cherish them more.

Im from Middlesbrough in the north east, we have our share of chavs and alot of chemical plants (the pollution keeps the rain off) and we were voted the worst place to live in the UK by channel four, however i quite like it here.

I am from the "German Democratic Republic". Yep, the ol' GDR...

oops. Sorry, my mistake.
I was born in another nation I live in now! The GDR and the larger Federal Republic of Germany were unified in 1990 (I was 2 years old then :p )

So now I am a citizen of this Federal Republic of Germany stuff...
Germany as it is now in most parts, is one of the oldest nations existing on the European continent...

What I like most about this place? Ummm.... I love Berlin. It is a wonderful city and we do have a great deal of multiculturalism here.
What I like least is what plagued Germans over CENTURIES: Bureaucracy. By-the-book-schedules and schemes

I'm in 'bonny Glasgae' and all (glasgow to those who don't speak weegie).

Every time winter arrives I wonder why I live in a country where it is quite so miserable with rain and slush (even snow would be better) and every time summer arrives I enjoy the afternoon it's here for (the single afternoon a year)

Even if the locals seem to have been so tight they swapped the sun for a 40 watt bulb...

By nationality I am British and have quite a loathing for the seperatist movements that would try and divide the Nation's achievements up and spew frankly biased rubbish about how this section or another would be better off without the rest...

And just to modify a few points here stated...

* Largest empire (landmass) of any empire ever. And also one of the few to end the colonial era with a plan (compare the experience of the dutch and french former colonies) Yes we also did some bad things, but by the standards of the time and in comparison to our peers, we were much much better.
* Birthplace of the industrial revloution, and formalised captialsim(Adam Smith)
* Worlds first parliamentary democracy And the world's longest running uninterrupted government (the only 'constitution' that the UK has ever had was the Magna carta, written in 1215)
* One of the first industrial country/empires to ban slavery And one of the very few to dedicate their military to it's extinction. Good people from this country fought and died to give that freedom back to people that other nations were still treating as chattels (especially free african nations who fought for their right to sell their populace)
* The sun still does not set on British overseas terrotries
* Has some fairly bad weather

* Is the thrid most populous island in the world (after honshu and Java)
*Could fit into the great barrier reef with room to spare
*Has FREE public healthcare for all
*Brunel/ Newton/ Darwin/ A. G. Bell/ Turing/ Crick (DNA)/and Burners-lee (Father of the WWW)

oops, sorry getting carried away, will shut up now.

England (or the UK in general) allows far too many illegal immigrants into the country.

I was born and currently live in San Juan, Puerto Rico. We're a tiny island overall; 110 by 40 miles (About 180 by 65 km for my European friends, give or take a km or two). This is a territory of the United States, given as a bounty of war from the Spanish in 1898. Our government is unique in the world, in that we are a free associated state; we're sort off like a state such as the US Federal Government is the predominant government and our currncy is the US dollar, but we haven't fully signed up as a state (A topic of great controversy here) and while we have US citizenship there are other things we don't have or can't do like real states (Such as vote for the US President).

Greatest contributions: Hmm. Right now, I suppose the biggest export we have is rum. Everything from Bacardi to Captain Morgan's is from here. We invented the original dance of salsa; though Cubans and Dominicans have since refined it with their own styles. We also invented the mythic Chupacabra (Goat eater) monster that Mexico and Central America since has claimed to have roaming its countrysides (It terrorized us first LOL).

Also funny, we have such an industrialized island that in a picture from space which showed this side of the world, PR was lit up brighter than mainland US itself.

True enough.

Ok then, they don't do enough to sort out the immigrant problem. :)

Hey all, I'm from the Philippines! It's a tropical nation in South-East asia. We have hot summers here and we have an uber amount of shopping malls in the captial. Most of our population are good english speakers and are really friendly.:D The country is also very "western" compared to our asian neighbors too.

BTW, it seems that i'm the only Filipino member on the site lol:lol2:

wow Mua'dib... never knew that, thanks!

(will now go and look up more on wikipedia)

as for the illegal immigrant isue... feel sorry for Malta, they take in (per head) nearly three times as many immigrants as the US does (estimated to include all those who don't get counted coming through/ under that border fence)

course they don't have any more real choice than we do, international navigation laws and conscience rather explicit on their duty to save the poor fools conned into those bumboats from north africa.

I have had it downpour when its perfectly sunny. I have also had it rain sideways!!! I'm orginally from Chicago, New Lenox/Joliet actually, and I miss the snow. Florida brings a whole new meaning to the song "I'm dreaming of a white Christmas!" :lol2:
