• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

Yesteryears: The Starship Chronicles

The starship chronicles is a newly added feature that the 2A-A2 team is introducing and testing out.

What is the Starship Chronicles?
The starship chronicles is something that the 2A-A2 team who are responsible for producing Yesteryears are introducing. Every couple of weeks (time permitting) we will release detailed information, pictures and histories on the ships and stations of Yesteryears. Please note it will only be one ship or station at a time and it will be chosen at random.

Why is this being introduced?
We have decided to do something special for the MSFC Yesteryears fans. It gives you more information and content while you wait for the mod to be completed.

May I request a ship or station to be included in the next Starship Chronicles update?
You may by posting in this thread. There is no guarantee that we will take up the said request, but it never hurts to ask.

Who will be writing the Starship Chronicles?
Majestic will be doing the Starship Chronicles with assistance from Syf. Majestic is the 2A-A2 Publics Relations Officer for the team.

Federation Akula Destroyer

Class Name: Akula
Hull Type: Destroyer
Affilication: United Federation of Planets/Starfleet
Armament: 2 Standard Phasers, 2 Heavy Burst Fire Phasers and 4 Photon Launchers.
Crew: 80
Uses: Patrol, Escort, Strike and Fleet Support Missions

Class History:
The introduction of the Miranda class in the early 2270's took over the production yards that originally produced the older Saladin class destroyers. It wasn't long for Starfleet to recognise that they required a newer and more up to date destroyer to replace the older Saladin class and to work with the newer Miranda class on patrol and tactical missions.

Two classes were originally submitted, the second being a beefed up Okinawa class frigate but was rejected due to many design flaws.

Instead of going back and designing a completely new class of vessel, Starfleet Engineering took a page from the Miranda class and how she was designed off the older Surya class.

Using the old Saladin class as a base, Starfleet Engineering expanded and upgraded the technology that was in the original design, which was now a good 60 years old. Additions like rear torpedo tubes and a 2nd warp engine was added to maximise power and offensive output.

In the end the class was pretty much a completely new design that the class was given a new name, the Akula class. The prototype was completed in 2375 and after her success class production started in 2376.

Model History:
From the begining of Yesteryears it was decided that the Federation destroyer was going to be the Akula class. The Akula class has appeared in many fan fictions and games set in TMP era, such examples include Starfleet Battles, Starfleet Command and Shattered Universe.

Majestic originally did a kitbash of Syf's Constitution class and that model was used for quite sometime as the Federation destroyer. Majestic later suggested a new vessel be constructed from scratch as the original kitbash was not as accurate as the Akula class seen in various reference material throughout the Internet.

Federation Constitution Heavy Cruiser

Class Name: Constitution (Refit)
Hull Type: Heavy Cruiser
Affilication: United Federation of Planets/Starfleet
Armament: 4 Heavy Phasers, and 2 Photon Launchers.
Crew: 500
Uses: Heavy Combat

Class History:
The Constitution class is the most recognised vessel in Starfleet history, with the class first entering service sometime prior to 2245 and served as Starfleet's front-line exploration and combat vessel for the latter half of the 23rd century.

They were solely responsible for defending and saving the Federation on many occasions and the Constitution class also served as a mighty deterrent to both the Klingon and Romulan Empires, several times taking part in combat actions which determined the fate of the entire Federation if not the Alpha Quadrant itself.

By 2367, there were no less than 13 of these vessels in service and in 2370 the class got it's first major refit with the USS Enterprise NCC-1701, the most famous of the class, taking centre stage by being the first to receive the refit. The actual refitting took eighteen months of work and essentially a new vessel was built onto the bones of the old, replacing virtually every major system.

The class continued to serve into the early part of the 24th century (Yesteryears), but many were starting to get decommissioned and mothballed due to the introduction of newer designs like the Excelsior and Constellation classes. When the new found fragile peace with the Klingon Empire looked like it was going to collapse after numerous attacks on Federation and Klingon starbases and colonies along the boarder, many former mothballed Constitution class vessels were recommissioned and assigned to maintain the peace in the troubled sectors.

Model History:
I honestly think the Constitution was the first model I wanted in the mod, next to the Klingon D7 class. The TMP and TOS eras are known for those two classes and thus I had no excuse for them not to being in the mod if I didn't want them which was not the case.

I have always been a fan of the Constitution class, both the original and refitted versions. Also being a heavy cruiser, this class will be one of the most common classes seen in the game.

The Conny here I also believe was one of the first models for Yesteryears that Syf created.

Federation Constellation Heavy Cruiser

Class Name: Constellation
Hull Type: Heavy Cruiser
Affilication: United Federation of Planets/Starfleet
Armament: 6 Heavy Phasers.
Crew: 500
Uses: Heavy Combat

Class History:
One of the many proposed designs developed by Starfleet to replace the aging Constitution class in the 2280's which was now over 40 years old. The class was named in honour of the USS Constellation NCC-1017 which was under the command of Commodore Matthew Decker when it was destroyed by the Doomsday Machine in 2267.

The Constellation class is a unique design, using a quad nacelle design rather that the dual design which is common on current Starfleet designs, bar the exception of the older Federation and Yamamoto classes. The USS Constellation herself had many design flaws crop up during her construction and trials phase, more so than the Excelsior class and thus didn't enter active service till the 2290's.

Further testing found while she was much newer and slightly more advanced than the Constitution, she was far less effective in both combat and exploration duties. Due to this the Constitution class that was starting to be decommissioned in the early 2390's was postponed until a new heavy cruiser design that at least matches the Constitution class's success enters service.

Never the less, Starfleet has started to construct a number of Constellation class vessels, albeit at a very limited number with many of these vessels service as boarder defense vessels.

Model History:
A request from Majestic made this ship enter Yesteryears, featuring only in the campaign.

Not much can be said here, the Constellation was never intended to be in multiplayer and Syf built the vessel taking into account the differences between the Constellation and Constitution while also keeping the poly count down to the limitation the 2A-A2 team has set.
