• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

I was hoping that maybe someone could help me. I was hoping that someone could tell me exactly how I could make a missile weapon (with a physical model, trail, etc). The reason is because of a BSG vs SW mod I am planning on and instead of the usual photons I was figuring it'd require missiles.

Here we go again...
This has come up many many times, in short there are several options, none of them are ideal.
  • There's the stock photons (which we used in BSG HRM), but as you say, no trails.
  • There's the Chain Reaction Pulsar, but I believe a good chunk of that is hard coded and thus it's virtually impossible to modify.
  • There's the antimatter mines, but the sods wont necessarily face the right direction.
  • There's the boarding party, but... (can someone refresh my memory the downside to this one?)
  • There's the missile pack from A2Files (link below), but whilst it looks good and has a trail it ignores shields (an annoyance that seems to be hard coded)

Adm_Z has done some similar missiles for his BSG work, and I seem to recall using his missile code as a basis for the missiles in my Tau'ri packs (pack is in the downloads here, but I built the trail plume as a physical element in the sod).

The boarding party problem is that the boarding party ordnance is incapable of dealing damage so you need one weapon for the visuals and another to actually deal damage. Both weapons also need a hitchance of 1 or you get problems like the missile flying past but dealing damage or the missile hitting and doing nothing.

If you're modding with FO, the unitorpedo supports SODs.

Well, shields should be minimal of a problem at most since at most space stations may have shielding but most ships would just be hull based.

Even with the hull it's the same problem, really. Nothing quite as annoying as seeing a weapon that didn't even hit destroy your unit. Or your missile hitting and not doing any damage.
