• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

While the NPC factions in Sigma represent forces organized to some degree, wildlife consists of just that: wild celestial animals. Wildlife do not construct any means of a base, and while they may gather in numbers they do not by any means have fleets that can combat or perform actions common to military forces. Wildlife all lack sentience and generally are stupid (though some show more clever behavior patterns like Bagadoons monitoring an area before moving out).

Generally there are three types of Wildlife: Pack Creatures, Solitary Creatures, and Natural Phenomena.

I. Bagadoons
II. Ursanoids
III. Spiralfos Colonies
IV. Deep Space Spooks
V. Ozins

Bagadoon (Ba-guh-doon)
Racial type: Arthopod
Wildlife type: Pack Creatures

Bagadoons are a space-born life form common in remote areas of the Sintar Cluster. They are multicellular beings that share traits with most known celestial arthropods. They generally have cartilaginous exoskeletons that are tinted dark blue and black. Other minerals and debris from space often gathers and collects on a typical Bagadoon throughout its life cycle. Bagadoons reproduce asexually through self impregnation and often lay clusters of eggs in frozen asteroid fields. Bagadoons are typical of most celestial wildlife and display minor intelligence. They are unable to fight and flee in most threatening instances. Since they tend to prefer extraordinarily cold temperatures they are often found in frozen asteroid fields or areas of deep space with concentrated ice.

What do they do? Bagadoons simply wander around the map and don't really do anything.

Ursanoids

Ursanoid (Er-suh-noid)
Racial type: Arthopod
Wildlife type: Pack Creatures

Ursanoids are a space-born arthropod and the most numerous of known species in the Sintar Cluster. Typical Ursanoids are roughly 100 meters in length and are known for their russet exoskeletons. Males generally have antenna they drift ahead of their bodies, while female lack any defining appendages. Ursanoids reproduce like most gender species, with females giving live birth to clusters of young. Ursanoids are found virtually everywhere, from clustered asteroid fields to completely barren areas of deep space. Because of their docile nature, Ursanoids are often ignored as they pose no threat to the civilized races and often steer clear of any incoming ship.

What do they do? Ursanoids usually gather at certain hotspots on maps where they reproduce and grow in numbers. They will then travel around the map in herds until they age and die and then the cycle repeats.

Spiralfos

Spiralfos (Spi-rahl-foh)
Racial type: Silicon (host) Fungi (symbiont)
Wildlife type: Solitary Creatures

Spiralfos are large colonies of celestial fungi that share a symbiotic relationship with silicon based creatures of the same name. Silicon Spiralfos are large brown tube shaped creatures that grow in spiral formations, while the blue Fungi Spiralfos spread across the surface of the creature. The Silicon Spiralfos, being a silicoid lifeform, naturally generates various mineral excrement as it feeds off of the dead Fungi that grow on it's hull. The Fungi feed off of these various minerals which causes them to give off their signature blue glow. This symbiotic relationship of feeding causes light distortions at various wavelengths within a radius of a colony; thus flying near one will almost always cause a ship's communications and sensor systems to act unpredictably and in most cases cease to function.

What do they do? Flying a fleet near a Spiralfos Colony will conceal them from enemy sensors and make them undetectable unless they come within visual range.

Deep Space Spooks

Deep Space Spook
Racial type: Unknown
Wildlife type: Natural Phenomenon

Sensor ghosts, natural phenomenon, or exotic lifeform, whatever Deep Space Spooks truly are remains a mystery. As their name implies, Spooks generally appear in areas devoid of anything such as deep space. They are very unpredictable, and in most cases they will suddenly appear and swarm around a given area before vanishing completely. In most cases the Spooks appear as a dual set of glowing white rings, though occasionally they may appear as other circular shapes as well.

What do they do? Deep Space Spooks are completely random by nature. They may suddenly appear out of nowhere and swarm the screen in massive numbers only to suddenly vanish moments later. Other then cluttering the screen and distracting you, they could unleash any number of mysterious and random side effects on anything near them.

Ozins

picture.php
Ozin (Oh-zin)
Racial type: Amoeba
Wildlife type: Pack Creatures

Single celled organisms are by far the most successful type of life form to evolve in the vacuum of space. The increased density of materials in certain areas allow some of these creatures to grow to massive proportions without starving. The Ozins are one such example of several super-massive amoebas native to the Sintar Cluster. Ozins tend to inhabit dark pockets of space where stars failed to form. These areas tend to be rich in mass that failed to coalesce into a solar body and thus Ozins are usually able to feed and grow to massive proportions. Ozins have been found in a large variety of other locations however, though they never become as massive as their dark pocket cousins.

What do they do? Ozins are harmless, though if a ship passes through one large enough it will usually slow down the movement of the ship. Ozins also tend to gather around derelict ships and stations, most likely to feed on any biological material that may have been on such ships. Ozins also are difficult to see being as they are largely transparent. They begin to illuminate from lights on ships as they get closer however.

Trilboli (Tril-boh-lee)
Racial type: Arthropod
Wildlife type: Pack Creatures

As with most space born creatures, simple arthropods seem to have thrived in the vacuum of space. Trilboli are one such creature that have managed to grow and expand light years across the Sintar Cluster. It's believed that their expansion could be attributed to them following ships through folded space gates, though records from exploratory ships have detected herds of them traveling far into deep space. This implies that they either are able to survive many years without consuming substance, consume enough substance to last such monumental journeys, or are able to self-sustain through some unknown biological process. Whatever the case, Trilboli for the most part mind themselves are are only harmful if provoked.

What do they do? Trilboli go about their lives consuming material and breeding. They will form large trails that wander across the map and for the most part do not effect gameplay at all. If provoked however, they will excrete an explosive compound they will latch unto the attacker and detonate (essentially they lay mines if you attack them)

(More creatures will show up soon, I'll probably be working on them most over the next few months.)
