What Do You Prefer, Fantasy or Sci-Fi

Ok all this is a little poll (sort of can't work the thing lol) I have put into place to see what you lot like more Fantasy or Sci-Fi. I have made some off shoots to each catagory as I really like the whole Steam powered tech thing. I do like trek and there ships etc but the idea of a Steam powered world lol.

So anyway the choices are:

Fantasy - this encompasses every aspect of fantasy such as magic and monster etc.

Magic - the first sub catagory, this includes any fantasy world where magic is a key element.

Monster/dragons - this could be any fantasy where monster good or bad play a significant part.

Sci-Fi - this encompasses any thing such as alternate techs or future tech and aliens etc.

Alternate tech - this could mean things such as Steam technology, and alternate pasts when technology takes a very different route.

Future tech/aliens - this could mean any Sci-fi set in space and contact with aliens etc, any space faring vessels also.

So those are the choices.

I know this isn't a real poll as I haven't the foggiest how to make an actual poll. but please do make a comment heh.

I will start with mine choice and reason:

I chose alternate tech because I have an interest in Steam technology and what could have happened. I have seen several pictures of very interesting potential Steam machines and have read a few books on the subject - fiction.

The idea of hunking machines and robots all powered by steam or clock work mechanisms is very interesting and I have even attempted some models of some lol. Steam powered weaponry and such are also something i have looked at and the idea isn't as obsured as I would have thought. its really a matter of pressure.

still while its never going to happen I like to day dream on the idea heh.

So whats yall idea's?

I'm more of a sci fi guy since I've always had a liking for futuristic aesthetic designs like scifi ships, concept cars, ultra sleek interiors (like the XI Bridge), radical fighter designs (R-103), and several others. Plus, the tech advancements come in handy and the weapons are great.

I prefer Sci-Fi. Though in many Science Fiction concepts you can find things that would rather belong to Fantasy, the Great Machine on Epsilon Eridani, the First Ones etc in Babylon 5, for example.

I love Sci-Fi, in my mind it's the better of both worlds, because for all intents and purposes any Sci-Fi universe could encompass any number of fantasy elements if they so chose.

Don't get me wrong though, I'd just as soon pick up a good fantasy novel and start reading for the next 6 hours and enjoy every minute of it, for me though Sci-Fi just is more enticing.

Fantasy = Well its interesting , a totally different world that we will never live in with so many different things and different universal laws ( Airships, Magic ect )

Sci Fi = Looking into what the future might hold is good fun, what might our ships be able to do, can we find solutions and above all else...can we all unite as one earth

Thanks EA for adding the poll and Paul for the idea of adding a both option for which I picked.

I am a big fan of botha nd many of my Fantasy novekls actually touch upon sci fi-ish elements so I thought I'd pick it.

Wheel of time - in all its glory has some great technological references even the cameo of an prototype steam engine, for which the main character thinks its a musical machination. the person who makde it states that it will revelutionise the future.

so just adding on to my bit heh.

I myself like Both, however, I prefer Sci-Fi set in the future, spaceships and aliens and the likes. But that don't mean I don't enjoy LoTR, AD&D, and other Fantasy based things.

For me, its an 'either or' type thing. I will enjoy either, as long as the story is good. Believe you me, I've seen and read my fair share of shoddy works in both genres.
