• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

Well I am simply curious, we seem to have a fair sized fan base despite being a private mod for sometime and not showing material on any other site.

So we must be doing something right and I am going to ask the simple question:

What are you looking most forward to in Yesteryears?

If it's more than one thing then please tell us but I would like it if you could name/point out the one thing you are looking forward to the most.

Also if there is anything you think we could improve on or what you would like to see in the mod (if it is possible with the storm3D engine) then also feel free to jot it down.

I thought about adding a poll but there are simply too may options for a poll so we will have to do it the old fashion way. :)

Well KA2 will be out soon with all that so you will no doubt get your cravings filled before we can release YY.

C. Terrans are no longer in the mod mate, check out the lastest post in the news thread.

Hard to say what I'm looking forward to the most; probably 'gonna have to say the fact that all races are built to the same degree - not some 'give the federation a hundred and the Klingon's two ships' philosophy.

That sort of thing really annoys me; it just seems a bit unfair.

Well, it was the Terrans lol... so i guess thats now what i'm looking forward to in YY2 now

for YY 1 however, i'm looking forward to:

1) Blowing up the Kzinti. repeatedly. I shall be conducting Kzinti genocide
2) the proper Klingon music :D - everything in YY looks cool so far, but you can't have Klingons without the right theme, and YY has it apparently :D

Well again, I don't want to try and draw to many "Parrallels" (badum-tish!) between KA2 and YY but, i've tried to keep the sides fair there too, although really I have 14 Degrees East to thank for that, as they came up with most of the ships. Storyline wise, KA2 and YY can *almost* work side by side, as KA2 catalogs what happens between STV and STVI, with a little TNG Apocrypha thrown in, and YY is more of a Lost-Era ish storyline set Post-Khithomer. In a weird twist, most of the ships that I have said were decomissioned with the Khithomer Accords (as part of the peace treaty) are absent from YY, so as I said, they *almost* work together :)

Hey, if you play Armada and Birth of the Federation, they are meant to be in the same era, even with the massive differences, but with a little imagination it isn't hard to fit them together. Even more so, look at games like Medal of Honour or Company of Heroes compared to Combat Mission, Blitzkrieg or Sudden Strike. Same war, very different viewpoints :) So theres no reason why KA2 and YY couldn't be seen as being set in almost the same "universe".

For me, I look forwards to seeing the Gorn done in a totally different way to KA2 or the SFC Series. I also can't wait to see what the secret side is, and whether its a race that should have been incredibly obvious to me.

Well there are a few things:

The Gorn, because as SJ said they're being done totally differently to the SFC version.

The Tholians, based on the pic I've seen of one of their ships, they're gonna be great.

Low poly ENT era Klingon ships.

Ship classes that serve an actual purpose, and not ones put in just cos they look good.

Well, it was the Terran Empire. I'd have loved to see how they were going to be incorperated into the storyline. However, now that they're (temporarily) out, I'd have to say the Knziti, and Tholian.

The Knziti have never been done before, and the Tholians will be a nice addition. I know they've been done before (once) but I'd imagine YY would do them in a different light (better). So yeah, the Tholians and Knziti. ;)

Check the news thead, its all there (as always) and I see no need to have to repeat myself.

A guy (Slider I think) released a full 24th century Tholian race on A2Files.

I look forward to some heated Klingon-Federation battles with involvement of the Beta Quadrants minor powers (Gorn etc).

Ah yes, some of the Tholian stations in KA2 are from Sliders Mod, with permission naturally.

Forgot about that one

That's a whopper of a question Majestic. What's not to look forward to? Hehe.

I love the fact that it's TMP, that in and of itself is enough for me to want to play it. Plus the good old days of Trek villains: Klingons and Romulans; no uber powered Borg or crack addicted Dominion iguanas. Just good old fashioned warbirds and D-7s duking it out with the best captain of all Treks.

On top of this mirror universe counterparts with awesome custome paint jobs and weapons. That's the sweetner right there.

SP missions, hidden surprises, the Gorn, again what's not to love here?

Not trying to tell you how to make your mod, but maybe you could gain something if I sent you my Web Cannon. Starfox made it and it works wonderfully, much better than the one in Sliders mod (which was essentially the same as the one I had in KATC)

Theres always YY2, currently we are drafting species for that mod and have three confirmed races so far, one being the Terrans the stars of the sequel mod.

What am I looking forward to most? The mod as a whole - it's basically an excuse to play an old game like new again!

Same. IMHO, there is a lack of good mods out there and YY seems to be shaping up to be one of the good ones.
