• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

Hiya! A thread over in the STO Section got me to thinking about things I'd like to see which would make the InterWebs experience more enjoyable for all. The following are what I've come up with so far. Feel free to add to this list.

- Self Banning Trolls
- MMOs which automatically detect and adjust to your 'puter's specs and capabilities so the first time you sign in everything is set perfectly.
- A software package which automatically seeks out and destroys any hacker anywhere, while placing their personal information onto a FaceBook page created for just this purpose.
- A software package which permabans all popup adverts.
- Something which finally explains correctly how to access and use the FaceBook privacy settings.
- A porn filter which actually works.

That's all I got right now.

I remember a lot of older games had a cool feature where they detected your processor speed, RAM, etc. the first time you ran the game and automatically configured themselves based on your specs. I wonder why they stopped doing that?

Some ad blockers are actually really good at this. I would recommend the AdBlock or AdBlock Plus extensions if you're using Google Chrome. They also kill those Evony ads, which would partially address your last point, lol.

I think part of it is because there are just so many configurations now that it's impossible to keep up; not to mention that overclocking completely skews those configurations and can't really be detected. Some games do have a "Set Recommended" button which is relative to your system, but it's not perfect. Also, I sometimes find that I'll be able to run games at better specs than "recommended" and sometimes worse. So unfortunatly, it's not as precise a science as one would like.

Just to be sure: A filter which filters OUT porn or which filters out ANYTHING ELSE but porn :D
The first one. Should have been more specific, lol. Some activities should not be treated as spectator sports. I dislike searching for something I am unfamiliar with and having about 200,000 porn sites come up first.

Just thought of a few more

- MeantCheck: something which corrects my posts and emails to what I meant to say instead of what I typed.

- FanBoy Detection Widget: Sees right through the front put up by that person you met online yesterday. Has a verah kewel warning screen, too. It's the Lost In Space Robot waving its arms at you shouting, "Danger! Danger! FanBoy approaching! Danger! Danger! Run, Will Robinson! Run!

As a side note, did you know the guy who did the Robot's voice on the original Lost In Space was also the original voice for Tony the Tiger in the Kellogg's Frosted Flakes commercials (They're Grrreat!)? Also the same guy who recorded the Grinch Song( You're a mean one, Mister Grinch. You have termites in your soul....).

As far as the MMO thing goes with detecting your computer specs, I believe that games are not built with a person enjoyment in mind that the game would decrease its speed, capabilities, or experience just so that the user could play it. The graphics, over the top capabilities, and so called "user experience" is the whole point of the game now so if you want to play then you will upgrade in order to do so. "You change, not them"
That is why I like breathing new life into older games like STA/STA2 that I can play my way.

Attitude checker. If you are posting with a bad attitude, a "better than though" mentality, or just on to crap all over others then the attitude checker will not allow the post.
