There is an Unamed Constellation class starship...seen as a prop/set decoration in Picards ready Room on the Enterprise D. anyone know anything about it? seems to me at least that said ship CAN NOT be the stargazer, Picards former command.....I seek any info on the ship as I kinda think doing few 3d Model renders of it assuming I ever can get her name would be nice for wallpapers...are there Constellation class starships of this type and era known to be famous or well known??

I'm a little curious as to why you think it's not the stargazer? I always assumed it was (after they swapped out the initial Constitution class model early in the first season).

I don't think its the stargazer based upon the NCC Number...the USS STARGAZERS NCC number is "NCC-2893" the Model of the Constellation class starship in Picars ready room shpws an NCC Numner of "NCC-7100" I imagine it is possible that the ship might be a noted member of the Constellation class thats Not the USS STARGAZER. it is worth noting however that it may simply be a miinor flaw in the filming as well. perhaps the physical model was there ready to go with the NCC-7100 and was Intended to Be the USS STARGAZER.. that is the reasonable assumption for me to make. But Fictionally, the ship seen on screen is not likley to be USS STARGAZER but a different member of the Constellation class....I was just curious as I have a 3d model with some Blank textures and I would have fun creating and rendering shot of a Constellation class with the NCC number NCC-7100 with a name :)

It could be that the Stargazer was giving the treatment the Defiant did during the DS9 series ending. Another Constellation Class Starship was given the name Stargazer as after all, Picard's Maneuver was then taught at Starfleet Academy.

Or

It could have been a Starship Picard was going to command before he was selected to command the Enterprise-D. It's canon Picard was in command of the Stargazer for a long time, he might have been partly assigned or he assumed he was going to be transferred to another Constellation Class ship based on his many years commanding one. Or another theory is that given he felt he was sand-bagged (Navy version of being railroaded) based on the inquiry of the loss of the Stargazer, he might have thought was going to be beached and given a shore position that was about maintaining or upgrading the Constellation line of vessels (for the exact same reason as above).

Or...more likely, someone made him the model or he acquired it, and it already had that same. For example, the US Iowa Class was virtually similar in the outer appearance. Some model companies only give you one or two names, not all four. Thus, if one wants to build the BB-63, you might have to settle for the BB-64.

The TL;DR is that you can make the NCC-7100 any ship you want (including the Stargazer).

good points...I think you are right...and I will spent the time to alter some blank textures I have for a constellation class starship naming the ship something fun. and retaining the NCC-7100 :) should make for some very groovy rendering :)

I have yet to actually pick a name as of yet but am considering Lydia Vladimirovna Litvyak, she was a world war II Russian female fighter ace. killed in action during the war after racking up a number of victories against FAR betyter Equipped German enemies. this lady even shot down at least one German fighter ace I know of...flying the Russian YAK-3 of all things against German BF-109 fighter. talk about deserving of a starship named for her in my book
I'm also considering Aleksandra Grigoryevna Samusenko a female Russian tank mechanic and commander, her Hubby was killed in action against the Germans during operation Barbarosa. the German invasion of Stalinist Russia...she sold EVERYTHING she owned, Bought a Russian T-34 main Battle tank, and Sent a Letter to Stalin himself BEGGING to be trained to repair and fight in a Russian tank unit. He not surprisingly agreed, and she fought the Germans all thru the rest of the war until she was also killed in action. Russian forces lost about 20 MILLION people during the war.
William Halsey Commander United states naval forces during the Battle of Guadalcanal, also known to United states forces as "Iron Bottom sound" as a direct result of the massive number of warships on both sides that were destroyed.

You know... given how much people in the Federation - particularly in TNG - talk about having transcended such primitive things as currency, discrimination and national conflicts, and how much they seem to openly scoff at humans from past centuries when such things were still widespread (I'm thinking of the episode with the frozen people from the 20th century), I think they wouldn't necessarily name their starships after 20th century war heroes or famous battles or that kind of thing.

That's not meant as a criticism of your name picks above, and I wouldn't be at all surprised to find ship names like that in canon Trek. Just something I was thinking about. Food for thought, as they say, and maybe for discussion.

you DO have a good point for sure... and I think this is something that should be debated and discussed. I do not take it as critisim at all... Just an idea..But I myself am a BIG history buff, and the people I admire most are more often than not war heros from various nations and various wars etc. I also think that it is only fit and proper to consider names of female warriors who should be remembered for their sheer guts etc. these 2 ladies are on my list of people I admire most. and thats quite something considering as my wife states that I'm the "Last true male Chauvinist pig on earth" due to my old school gender views and all. these women contributed so much to their nations security..they should be rembered for that. Russian forces lost MILLIONS during world war II.. More than the rst of the Allied forces Combined. starships are normally named for persons, or events that had a big impact on history yes? tell me some names YOU might have look at and why. I would very much be interested in what your thoughts would be on the naming of a starship.
