This is definitely good read. I don't remember B5 at all so naturally I am bias towards DS9 but now seeing this article I might check out B5 and then re-read this article and see where this author is coming from.

Yeah, after watching B5 (not counting the last season) and realizing that DS9 was probably based on the plot for B5, I thought that B5 was better because, as was said in the article, B5 didn't have to make it up as they went along

You really should give it a shot, one of my favourite all time series, it's probably at the top to be honest.

Yeah the last season was because JMS had to squeeze S4 and 5 into season 4 because at the beginning of that season he was told the series wasn't going to be renewed. Then after all that he was told it was going to be and had to come up with a new season. If the networks had kept out of it, season 5 was going to be just on the civil war and season 4 on the shadow war.

Still it turned out well as a whole, still a great series lightyears ahead of DS9 in my opinion. :)

What's really sad about that is that he did write out a full intricately plotted season that would likely have been just as good as the first four, then a fan stole the laptop with the scripts at a con. He wound up needing to rewrite the entire season from memory on the fly. The Byron arc was expanded from just a couple episodes to most of the season to make up for plots that had been mostly forgotten.

I never heard about that, it's a real disappointment to hear someone who considers themselves a fan doing this to such a great series. It's exciting to imagine what season 5 could have been if that person had done the right thing and kept their grubby mitts off JMS' laptop.
