Started a proper BioShock thread for some neat discussions of the remastered versions, game universe and overall awesomeness.

Also, is anyone else gaming on a laptop? The remastered BioShock is putting quite a strain on my laptop, and I kind of wanna compare notes with someone so I don't accidentally Incinerate it.

I have developed a unique problem. I now have so many fans on my computer that it is unbalancing my audio. My computer is on the left side of my desk and it is actually loud enough to partially drown out the left channel audio at lower volume settings. If I blast my music, then it overpowers the fans and I can't hear the tower anymore. If I want something more subtle, the white noise creates a noticeable right-bias. Too much cooling was just about the only computer problem I thought I would never have.

My PC has mysteriously reverted back to it's Windows 7 style desktop after a week of being stuck in Classic (which occurred after a previous update) following a round of 16 updates from Microsoft. I'm sure it's just a coincidence...

Watching FC to pass the time, I just seriously burst out laughing when Cochrane did his goofy drunk dance.

Well, my hard drive has officially bit the dust. I got home from work this morning and my daughter told me the computer froze. I see my STO launcher open with the "Not Responding" message on the window. I hit cntl + Alt + Del to open task manager and nothing happens. So, I reset my machine and it will not boot. I go into my motherboard's setup and see that the mb sees something plugged into SATA1 but does not know what it is. I decided to just go to bed and look at it this evening. I get my Win7 disc out so I can get another look at it. I put it in to try and reformat the disk and it shows my hard drive with a total space of 0.0 mb with 0.0 mb free. Now I have to find me another HD and start all over again. Think I am going to get a small mSATA card off of ebay to put my os on and find a good deal on a 2 tb hd.

Having different drives for the OS and programs is a good practice. When you say mSATA, do you just mean the laptop size drives or the ones with the smaller ports, like this?

If you mean the small ports kind, make sure your motherboard and PSU will support that.

Are you thinking a solid state drive for the OS or just a small HDD?

I am indeed talking about a ssd like the one sitting on top. My motherboard has a built in msata slot directly on it.

Well, I purchased a 64gb mSATA SSD from ebay this morning. It will be used only for the core systems like the OS and device drivers. I also have a 1 tb and 400 gb laptop hdd that I will use. The 1 tb will hold my games and the 400 gb will have everything else.

So, I impulse bought a used Steam controller because it was half the price that Valve's asking for. I have to say, it's pretty interesting.

The software and drivers are built into Steam, so I didn't need to download anything. The software itself is rather astounding in the sheer number of options. Any control can be mapped to any mouse, keyboard, or Xbox control and bindings are set on a per-game basis. Game only supports Xbox controllers? No problem, just map it as though it were an Xbox controller. Game doesn't support controllers or sticks? Just map one of the track pads as a mouse input. There's even a mouse input preset that mimics a stick.

There are also two large buttons on the backs of the grips. Once I got used to them and stopped hitting them by accident, they were pretty useful. Reloading without having to take my thumb off of anything was very nice. The triggers also have a second function on a button that is activated by pulling just a little more at the end of their squeezy range. I don't really know what to use that for yet. Nitrous and e-brake in racing games?

I do have a complaint about the right pad, though. The left pad has a + shape etched into it and it is handy for a touch reference. It also tends to be mapped as a d-pad by default. The right pad has no such texturing. The prototype had two concentric rings on this pad to help you tell where your thumb was and I can't for the life of me figure out why it was removed; it can be difficult to be certain your thumb is centered on this model.

I need some more time with it to get used to the feel, but I think I like it. If they come out with a newer model with something on the right pad, I would seriously recommend getting it if you like using controllers enough.

Any Game of Thrones fans here? Whilst I've only read the first book I found this a little amusing (season 6 - so spoilers!)

Fairly good job there, only a few weird moments with the sabers and that's because of the original scene itself. And the music worked fairly well methinks.

After fiddling with the sound settings on my new motherboard, I have learned that the base volume level for the Realtek audio drivers is actually 50%, not 100% (which is rather odd). If you want high quality sound and have a Realtek audio chip on your motherboard, install the official Realtek drivers, set the system volume to 50%, and adjust to the level you want on the actual speaker control. Any higher and the drivers start creating odd dips in the sound levels to prevent peaking, any lower and they have to reduce quality (it's just the way digital works). Took me forever to figure out why my music sounded funny.

Just a heads up in case anybody else thinks things sound odd on their system.

It may be a bit morbid but I now have commissioned a new family crypt in my family graveyard .

The old crypt ( Est 1757) is full all 48 slots and 6 baby ossuaries ( including one containing my sister Dec 18 1979 ) . are all filled

Found this out today , See my fathers last living cousin (@102 years) of whom I barely new of was inter there today ,He was the last of that branch of the family . With his passing make me the oldest member of my fathers family alive ..

Man this make me feel ancient

Does anyone else find it a bit amusing that the Shadows actually sent their own ambassador to Babylon 5?

Sometimes I pretend that the Air Force One (1997) music is a Star Trek theme from a parallel universe.

Even outside of STO, though, in Star Trek games with ground forces, the canon Starfleet Bazooka never shows up. EF had the Photon Cannon, but it wasn't a canon weapon the way the Isomagnetic Disintegrator is. I'd think it would have shown up somewhere by this point.

What kind of issues does it have?

---

I just discovered that Perfect Dark, the original N64 game, got ported to the Xbox 360 and is available for download on XBLA. They modernized the controls, remastered the graphics (not much, but still), upped the resolution, and increased the frame rate! I think I know what I'll be doing when I get home.

Some significant underlap on the nacelle grills and bussards, some misaligned vertices between the booms, generally messy polygon arrangement around the impulse engines. Definitely not up to my current standards.

Well, if anyone can fix it, it's the guy who screwed it up in the first place.:p
