• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

Okay, someone at another place I go to has posted this a while ago.

Fenrir said:
All right, so I have been playing this Roguelike [a sort of computer rpg, quoter's note] constantly for years. It will be twenty-one years in July. I have two questions:

1. Has anyone been able to contact the Lead Developer? Some people claim to have some old chat logs from back in alpha, and those people certainly keep collecting donations for him, but no one seem to agree on precisely which chat logs are his, and I certainly have not been able to reach him.

2. Does anyone know what happened to that community fork that supposedly happened in early dev? I have tried getting in touch with some of the old accounts of the guy who forked it--Satan, Lucifer, Beezlebub, and the Devil--but I got nothing. I even pinged his IP, 6.6.6, but that did not work. Do you think that the Lead Developer made him shut down his servers?

I am no good at this game, but it seems pretty solid and popular for a freeware indie title, so it is a shame that there is such a grave lack of support. I would also like to see it go open source, but that certainly won't happen if we can not get in touch with someone that has the source code--either the Lead Dev or the project leader for the community fork.

I must say that it has some rather interesting gameplay and amazing graphics, but it's horribly unbalanced. :p

[this is intended to be humor, as indicated by the thread category.]

Though I have to say, that the XP points you can get are pretty amazing! And some of the graphics: DUDE!

One huge downside: This currency based system to get your items. What the hell? Who thought of that stupid idea?
It's so unfair to have to amass so much of these funny little coins to buy an MRI!

Yeah, right. I heard that some middle eastern guy promised a patch, but he apparently left the scene after some conflicts and no one heard of him ever since.

Yeah, I really enjoy a lot of the graphics, but some of it looks like place holders. I mean, have you ever checked out the back of one of those data disks? They're obviously meant to be shiny, but there's just this weird distortion effect instead of a reflection.

What I really hate is the random generator for class/gender at the beginning. It takes ages, and is usually pretty costly, to try to get to the class you want to be.

And I think we need more Dev' interaction, and a patch is long overdue now. All those hacks are pushing the level limit up gradually, but a decent expansion with new levels and content is what's needed IMO.

Yeah, I know the game is fuill of bugs.
A few other things that bother me:
- You have to pay coins to change your character name! And to do that, you have to start this overly long and tedious quest and talk about completly uninteresting things to other NPCs.... WTF?
- And to be able to participate in this game, you must pay monthly fees of a certain percentage of what you earn.... on the other hand: this is used for server maintenance of course.
- Who of the dev staff thought of putting "hangover mode" into the game? Needs to be fixed ASAP.

However, the upsides of this game:
- Day and night and weather changes. Looks totally awsome!
- Your character bleeds when damaged and there are special NPCs who wil come to you to fix it! The damage model of chars and objects alike is highly detailed.
- Not only NPC interaction is modeled, but also the interaction of your characters own body to other stuff. Totally cool, dude.

And: The soundtrack. There are a lot of really annoying tracks, but some are just plain awesome!
