I know many are fans of the direction the recent Marvel movies has progressed. They portrayed Iron Man ingeniously, Norton was awesome as Bruce Banner / The Hulk. Scarlett Johanson....need I say anything (sorry ladies). They are progressing on Thor and Captain America.

Its now been released that Edward Norton will not be reprising his role as Bruce. I think this is a horrible mistake. He was better than Eric Bana and will be hard to replace. If you want to read on the details, check it out on Yahoo movies or Hitfix.

Discuss.

I personally can't wait tfor the Avengers movie and Captain America. As for the Hulk, I've never been much a fan of it and I personally preferred Eric Bana. However did you know that Tobey McGuire walked away from Peter Parker some time last year and the new Spider-man movie is a re-boot from the start. I love Spider-man he is one of my favourite Marvel superheroes, so I was quite saddened when I heard this.

I liked Ed Norton, he was perfect as Banner. The only problem with the Hulk movies, is that the Hulk himself always looked naff. You cant have the movies title character look that rubbish and unbelievable.

Juries still out for me on Thor and Captain America. I can't imagine Thor will translate well (especially since its based on the mainstream Thor, and not the Ultimates version) on screen and Cap.. well, he's a guy that can throw a shield really well. And we've already seen the best use for that shield, courtesy of Tony Stark.

With regards to Spidey, I think Tobey over-estimated his 'draw'. From what I understand he'd been on and off about a fourth movie and they finally decided to just recast the whole thing. While the spidey movies were great, it'll be interesting to see a new take on it. While they got a lot of things right, they also did a lot of things wrong (particularly Venom and Mary Jane). I for one will be glad to see the back of Kirsten Dunst as Mary Jane lol. Tobey was pretty good, but I don't think he's quite as Iconic in the role as others have been in their respective roles. For example, you couldn't imagine anyone other the RDJ as Tony Stark/Ironman now, or anyone other than Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. Or anyone else in the role of Blade than Wesley Snipes. There are a few others that are just as iconic in their roles (Ian McKellen is a fantastic Magneto, and Patrick Stewart is a fantastic Xavier), and I just don't think anyone in Spider-man had quite the same impact. With the possible exception of Alfred Molina as Doc Ock. And I don't think anyone else would have done quite as well as Willem Dafoe as Norman Osborn/green goblin, although the costume was horrendous. Franco was good as Harry Osborn, and he had the right chemistry with Macguire to make their friendship seem real on screen, but I don't think either of them were iconic. But thats just my opinion really.

Pretty much agree with everything that Knight said, some roles are just iconic and can't be changed now - to me, Banner wasn't one of those. Ironman, Wolverine, Nick Fury (and even Batman, but that's DC) can never be played by other actors now...

As for Thor; never known much about the character (know about the god though :)) in Marvel, and I have the same sentiments about Captain America - he started life as, practically, propaganda and that's going to be hard to shake-off. I've no doubt that Marvel Studios could do it, just don't know if they will...

So yeah, Norton was better than Bana in Hulk; but I'm biased as I found the first film abysmal  - but I wouldn't say that replacing him will destroy the entire universe or anything.

Yes I was talking to Katala yesterday after my post about Spider-man and said that a re-boot would be good as they could keep Mary-Jane from knowing Peter was Spider-man for longer, it was too quick for me. Plus the Green Goblin, Harry and Vemon should survive and other the the last shouldn't know about Peters identity until later. Like in the comics and cartoons.

With Marvel at the helm other than the studios I think they can make it even better as long as they cast the right actors as said above in Knights post as you're right they don't have the same impact as RDJ as Ironman or Hugh Jackman as Logan/Wolverine.

I myself don't know anything about Thor, apart from what I have recently read online, but I am really looking forward to Captain America. He is one of my favourite super-heroes after Spider-man and Iron-man, plus possibly a couple, others.

I was disappointed when they decided to kill Harry Osborne. I liked their choice for Sandman (though I can't remember his name). Doc Oct was superb in my opinion. I do hope they do it all justice.

That's all the build-up films concluded now I think. Just waiting for the Avengers (which I believe is Summer 2012). Our main Heroes are Captain America, Iron Man, Thor and Hulk, with Hawkeye and Black Widow as supporting characters; swear there is a third supporting character too (other than Fury) though the name escapes me.

Think it's been confirmed that Loki will be a part of the film, though to what extent, I do not know.

Aye, I believe he was in the preview, from what I remember. I think he's going to be one of the main villains.

http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/marvel/avengers/

Not sure if this link works for all countries, but it works for me here in the UK.

I received an excited text from a friend at 6:30 this morning - telling me to go on to iTunes trailers immediately. This was the first thing I saw.

I am now bored of 2011; bring on 2012!

No problem . Captain America is really good, I loved it. Shan't spoil anything, but I will say that I thought it a better origin story than Thor.
