On Australian TV:
The A-Team got a brief mention in last night's Einstein Factor when host Peter Berner described one of the Brains Trust, well-known barrister Dr Jocelynne Scutt as a one-woman A-Team. What he meant by that was that she seems to handle any difficulty on her own.

Thanks for responding Blindeye.

I am currently watching the show on its fifth season here on the Australian pay tv channel TV1.

Last night's episode was Quarterback Sneak:
This episode has Murdock calling himself Number 6. No doubt a reference to The Prisoner especially since he mentioned Number 1.
This is a rescue a professor story. It is not like I haven't seen that plot before and therefore there's nothing much I could say about it except it is an OK time passer.

The Theory of Revolution:
The girls at the beginning and the end were good to look at.
Not too impressed with Frankie's heroics here.
Like the Revolution song from the Beatles that got played here.
Murdock howls like a wolf and coincidentally I saw Doctor Who: Tooth and Claw, which is about a werewolf, again on the individual DVD releases. Another thing that the A-Team and Doctor Who episodes have in common is that both episodes respectively precede the one that has a special reunion.

There is an update on the much mooted A-Team movie:
http://www.empireonline.com/news/story.asp?NID=19460

"The big screen version of The A-Team has gone back to the drawing board, series creator Stephen J Cannell has revealed to Empire. Bruce Feristein, an American writer who penned three of the four Brosnan Bond movies including Goldeneye, was drafted in to write the movie in 2004, but Cannell says a new script is about to be penned by a new writer.

Speaking exclusively to Empire, he said the new script will replace the half-dozen or so which have been written to date. "We were working on a script for a few years but I didn't like it so it's been thrown out," he said."We’ve gone through a lot of scripts that we haven’t been happy with for one reason or another.
We had one script writer who had never even watched the show! The studio was adament about employing him but he just took the title and began to write anything he wanted, completely departing from the original show. The studio didn’t like it and neither did I."

Although the identity of the new writer and details of the plot are unconfirmed, Cannell, who will be producing the film, has made no secret of the fact the 80s cult show will be updated for the new millennium. "I want to create it as taking place today. So the Gulf War could be a great angle. In the original, the A-Team were on the run after robbing a bank under orders just as the war ended. In this, maybe the four would raid Saddam Hussein’s bank or whatever."

But how will it better the chemistry of the original quartet of George Peppard (Hannibal), Mr T (BA Baracus), Dwight Schultz (Murdock) and Dirk Benedict (Faceman)? "I would like the original cast to play a part - to have their input into the movie and to star in cameo roles. As for who will play the new roles, I think Bruce Willis would make a good Hannibal!

"But I think the show needs retuning. I don’t know if BA can say ‘I pity the fool’ because that is so Mr T but Hannibal will certainly be saying, ‘I love it when a plan comes together.’ Little things like that will get a big laugh."

A release date has yet to be proposed but don’t expect to see the movie before 2008.

The Say UNCLE Affair:
When I first found out about this episode I think three years ago, it was the episode I most wanted to see as it reunited Robert Vaughn with his Man From UNCLE co-star David McCallum. Despite the title both Vaughn and McCallum were playing different characters and apart from their reunion there is no explanation in the episode on why it is called that. What I did not expect was for it to be formatted like a Man From UNCLE episode with each act getting its own name as it was done in that show (actually I did read about back then but forgotten about it until watching the episode). Since this has been formatted as a Man From UNCLE episode I decided to treat it as one as well by commenting on each of the acts-

Act I: This Is Strictly Business, Of Course:
At the same time this was on Channel 10 in Australia was showing an episode of NCIS which of course included McCallum in the regular cast.
Wow that was some reunion between Stockwell and Ivan (McCallum).
That crash in the hotel room was very unexpected.

Act II: A Crazy Line of Work:
Like Frankie's line of Madonna having a shower in the caravan.
There is a raid on a Chinese Consulate. 24 also had a raid on a Chinese Consulate, I wonder if this was where the makers of 24 got this idea from.
Murdock is very good as Frank Sinatra.
Face sure warned Frankie of buying Ivan's books.

Act III: Let's Be Frank:
Couldn't believe the title when I saw it.
Very funny when Murdock bumped into Ivan's men.

Act IV: In Plane Sight:
Very apt title.
Funny when Murdock called BA, Sammy as in Sammy Davis Jr.
Like that final faceoff between Stockwell and Ivan.

Epilogue: Curtain Call:
This was just delightful and it is something that people should see for themselves to know why.

The best episode of season 5 and a very good reunion between Vaughn and McCallum. Now if only a reunion could also be made between McCallum and his Sapphire and Steel co-star Joanna Lumley.

TV1 in Australia last week rescreened The Theory of Revolution instead of Alive At Five the episode that came after The Say UNCLE Affair. Last night instead of showing Alive At Five like they were supposed to last week they instead show the episode that came after it-

Family Reunion:
The A-Team helps a man who turns out to be Face's father. The way that this episode has been beautifully displayed makes this the A-Team version of Doctor Who: Father's Day.
Superbly directed by James Darren.
Murdock was talking to a clown figure about whether to tell Face whether the man they were protecting is his father. The ending to this scene was very funny. In fact this looked similar to an episode of Angel which also dealt with an issue of a father and son.
Clare Kirkconnell played Face's sister Ellen. Amazingly she does looked similar to Dirk Benedict.
Love how Hannibal responded to Owens' rat's brain remark.
What a heartwarming ending.

Point of No Return:
Just a day before I saw this episode, found out that it has been included as a bonus on the season 4 release even though it is from season 5. Perhaps something for people who are not keen in getting the whole of season 5.
Rosalind Chao appears. That is a surprise.
Hannibal has a limited appearance due to him being captured.
Love it when the team made their entrance when rescuing Stockwell.
Didn't know the eupremism for sponge as shown in this episode.
Set in Hong Kong, the Cantonese being spoken was pretty bad. I know since Cantonese alongside English is the language that is spoken in my household.
Love the shot of the canister being in the air.

The Crystal Skull:
Murdock gets mistaken as a god as a result of the skull of the title.
There is a recording of monks chanting which brings Doctor Who: The Time Meddler into mind.
Overall not a bad episode.

It is funny the beginning takes place in the Australian Outback because The A-Team was mentioned in the Australian media this week. No it was not about the TV series but the group of corporate spies using that name who were undercover to find out the activities of Green groups.

In fact later that night I saw the Four Corners program about that story which was simply called "The A-Team". For those who did not see it here is a transcript:

The Spy Who Mugged Me:
The title obviously a take on the Bond movie The Spy Who Loved Me with Murdock playing the James Bond like spy.
Murdock impersonates a spy who never existed. Sounds like North by Northwest.
Karen Kopins (Dominique) looks like Erin Gray.
Playing the bad guy is Roy Dotrice. Interestingly since this is a very spy oriented episode, Dotrice later played the spy boss in the short lived TV series Mr and Mrs Smith.
A absolutely enjoyable romp.

The A-Team got mentioned in the My Name Is Earl episode Broke Joy's Fancy Figurine which I saw last night.

From TV.com:
"At the very end of the show, Randy is seen in bed, trying to recall the names of the A-Team. The A-Team was a TV series on NBC from 1983 to 1987, starring George Peppard as Hannibal Smith and Mr. T as B.A. Barracus."

On Australian TV:
In an episode of 20 to 1 called Crazes and Phases it counted down to the said title that people have gone through. Coming in at 15th place was Bling and footage of Mr T and promotional posters of The A-Team was included. This is because as host Bert Newton explained Mr T and The A-Team has shown us what bling looks like!

The Grey Team:
Aha the Fini shirt that Murdock was wearing that I have been told about to signify the fact that this was the final episode (even though it was the second last to be broadcast).
Guest star Lew Ayres' past credits included playing the original President Adar in the opening instalment of the original Battlestar Galactica, Dirk Benedict's old show. Unlike Battlestar Galactica, Dirk and Lew gets to share some screen time together here in this A-Team episode albeit at the end. Since The Grey Team was meant to be the final episode, it therefore a sort of a full circle for both Dirk and Lew.
Love it when the old people when fighting off the baddies at the nursing home.
It had a very nice ending.

Without Reservations:
Cute title since it had Murdock as a waiter in a restaurant where lots of people normally eat without making a reservation. Coindentally while I was watching this episode my sister asked me to get the telephone book for her so she could look up the number of a restaurant!
Marc Alaimo later Gul Dukat in DS9 plays as baddie here as well. Coindentally an ad for the Star Trek DVDs which included a clip of him as Dukat was shown during an ad break.
The Almost Fini shirt that Murdock wears appears in the last scene.
Overall quite enjoyable.

Alive At Five:
This episode from season 5 completes my viewing of the A-Team. Face decides to leave the team but finds that it is easier said than done.

This has been a long and enjoyable ride and glad that I took it.

Last night at my sci fi club we had a trivia night and one of the people in the team that I was in came up with The A-Team as our team name. Honestly it was not me who chose The A-Team as the team name.

Incidentally we won. So our A-Team was really an A-Team after all.

Last night saw the Spaced episode Epiphanies and it had A-Team references with the character of Mike being said to be like Mr T and a re-mix version of the A-Team theme was played at a disco. It was quite fun hearing it.

Been a monster fan of The A-Team for years upon years. When I heard about the movie making a comeback , I was thrilled. These guys made MacGuyver look like a rookie. They could take a broom , a gallon of diesel fuel , and floss and turn it into an assault tank rivaling the Siege Tank on StarCraft and be FUNNY about it.

I think that's what's missing from TV these days. Shows lack that certain something that make them exciting AND fun.

Last show I saw that did that was Enterprise and then they go and cancel it.

Crap.

Heard another A-Team reference in Spaced. This time in the episode Change:
Marsha mentioned about watching the A-Team and then says "I love it when a plan comes together."

There was an A-Team reference in the latest episode of Bionic Woman, Do Not Disturb. The reference was that of the intro itself. Fancy hearing that on Bionic Woman.

John Singleton will direct the A-Team movie:
Empire: Movie News - Singleton Confirms Hes Joining A-Team
"Singleton Confirms He's Joining A-Team
John pities the fool
Source: Black Voices.com

If no one else can direct, and if you can find him, maybe you can hire... John Singleton! Yes, the Shaft director is on for another TV show adaptation, as he confirmed the rumours that he's set to bring BA, Face, Murdoch and Hannibal to the big screen at last.

The rumours have been flying about this project for years, but Singleton's hiring is a big step forward. He told BlackVoices.com that he's planning to update the show from the original premise, which had Vietnam vets on the run for a crime they didn't commit, helping innocents while staying one step ahead of the law.

Appanrelty the film version will "reflect contemporary issues and politics", which we suspect translates as "cast them as Iraq war veterans on the run from an increasingly paranoid government" and will be "less cartoony" than the original, in more of a Die Hard or Lethal Weapon vein. It remains to be seen if the latter will actually happen - after all, even Die Hard 4.0 was a bit cartoony, and that seems to be the way action films are going these days. Still, we can hope - and as long as someone locks the gang in a warehouse full of spare parts and welding tools at some point in the iflm, we'll be happy.

Still no word on a start date or casting"

Meanwhile this morning I saw Dirk Benedict in the Charlie's Angels season 1 finale The Blue Angels which was made some years before The A-Team. Compare to Face, the character that he played in Charlie's Angels is a complete wimp.

I recently saw the movie White Chicks and in it was Eddie Velez (Frankie). It took me some time to realise why he looked so familiar.

for our sins we did a mission on one of the sims i am on where a greta many quotes were used...

Everything from my character (large and very dark skinned) being given some milk before the operation started through to another character standing there smoking a cigar and saying THOSE words...

There may even have been some rather gratuitous turning over of vehicles and denim shortie clad girls...

Saw Mr T in the movie Not Another Teen Movie. He appeared briefly and even the A-Team theme was played.

Also saw an A-Team sketch on Robot Chicken in which the team were portrayed as not very nice guys at all.
