Paul McGann who protrayed the Doctor in the 1996 TV movie and recently did a short 10 minute feature called Night of the Doctor has said he would return as the 8th Doctor if given the opportunity. He has even gone as far to sign an online petition about creating a new spin-off series.
I for one never saw the 1996 movie, but 17 years later and his work on Night of the Doctor showed me what we have missed with him never getting more screen time. In fact John Hurt I feel has been given more screen time featuring at the end of Name of the Doctor and through the entire special of Day of the Doctor.
While I can understand that the team want to focus on their new Doctor, Peter Capaldi, I feel Paul McGann should be given a shot to bring one of the most unknown Doctors back to the screen. Weather it be a short series aired during the time that the new series with Peter Capaldi is not showing, or as a series of TV movie specials. Either way, the early days of the Time war are a vastly unknown era in the Doctor Who series and the Night of the Doctor showed us it was the 8th Doctor who was there during those events and refusing to fight.
I would ask anyone who would like to see him return for some screen time to sign the petition, the first link provide at the top of this thread. I'd also like to hear what everyone thinks on the subject, should Paul McGann return? Or should be let the past be the past and allow for some mystery? Or should he appear in the series with Capaldi, perhaps as some flash backs something that even John Hurt could also appear in?
