So, since I have a whole bunch of thoughts I wanted to share, I just decided to make a new thread about this.

I've started out this morning, finally. My previous attempt failed because of the ridiculous loading times (I think I waited an hour for the Sol system to load...). As it turns out, the graphics settings were the cause of this. I've set them to the minimum and not only did my loading problem disappear, the game works pretty well now. If I can find out which setting is the offender, I might even be able to crank them up a bit again.

So, just as Maj did, I've decided to use my midway character for the game. Since today morning, he is (or rather, I am) the proud captain of a small Centaur-class frigate, USS Providence. Obvious reference is obvious. I am grateful that the game decided to give me a Centaur - it gives the game the "it's the trek I know" feeling. It is strange to warp into the Sol system right next to a Fed dreadnought painted in screaming Borg green, but starting with the familiar Centaur helped to get over that.

The few missions I had the time to play were a lot of fun - I really like how the shields have been implemented. Flying a spaceship is a bit different than piloting, say, an AS7-D Atlas, but I'll get used to it. The proper firing angles and all of that stuff has been fun as well - turning your ship to face the enemy for a hull-shattering torpedo shot feels awesome. I'm hoping to get a few more moneys for cool equipment.

I am running the German translation right now. It's still a bit weird - they apparently can't decide how to properly translate a few things. If it's possible, I might switch to the English original later on, but it's fine for now. And ohai Q, the dude was nice enough to show up for the european relaunch.

I've heard that the ship types pretty much match the character types, is that right?

It is better to say use escorts for tactical, cruisers for engineering etc. At least for the Federation the KDF side runs differently. Also I found it's not critical at the Lieutenant Commander level but once you hit Commander choosing the right ship type can make all the difference.

Also feel free to add me, @majesticmsfc and I'll add you to the MSFC Fleet if you like, so others can find you and we can all help you out if you wish for a hand or to have some fun. I can also add you to the MSFC Chat Channel or you can add yourself my looking up MSFC in the search chat channel option.

That's the spirit, Terra! Glad to see you've decided to give STO a try. You are correct about the translations from English into German. Even mit mein Bayern trained ears, the HocheDeutsche they are using looks and sounds a bit awkward, lol. Entschuldigen Sie, bitte. Meinen HocheDeutsche ist nicht gut. And if you think my German is bad, you ought to hear how I mangle tlhIngan. :lol2:

Getting close to Lv10 now, things sure are exciting. Met Maj and Katala this morning, ohai2u people!

Just recently unlocked the duty officer system. Oh my, this is fun! They're like trading cards! It's cool to send them off on assignments while you go off to do things IRL. :p

So here are a few thoughts on the first Fed campaign. Spoilers!

So the campaign was a lot of fun so far. Blow up this, go there.... until the mission where you board the Cardassian flagship.

Devidians. I was so happy when I discovered this. It's great that they decided to bring them back. These are the awesomest (is that even a word) missions I've played so far.

The whole atmosphere on the rusty old station was awesome. Reminds me of Elmo Dater from Immortals of Terra. There's all these guys partying, and it doesn't seem that bad, but then you go deeper and there's just creepy things. Let me make this clear: I love ghosts. I love aliens. I love ghost aliens. I absolutely ADORE ghost aliens in the DARK, with a crazed hologram running amok. The computer room, where the portal is, had just the right amount of dilapidation, and it was doubly creepy to know that this used to be all shiny and glowy a few centuries ago. The horror atmosphere of this was really well done. There's not much horror in Trek, but it is awesome when they do it. Apparently they want to do a special horror-themed episode later this month - I hope I have enough levels for it then.

Oh, and that gun thing you get for fighting them, especially its second fire mode - proton packs, anyone? Hell, yeah. Who you're gonna call? DEVIDIAN BUSTERS!

So we go into the past. As I said above, seeing the computer room - previously abandoned, decayed and creepy - in all its former glory is awesome, and it's subtly creepy to realize that this is the same place, all the corridors are the same, and you are walking up the same ramp you ran down with guns blazing. And then - Bones! Good old Bones! At this moment I kind of wanted to stay in the past. (I have an undying love for TOS - gotta love that era of SciFi!) This is it, this is my Trek! It was sad to leave good old Bones behind.

Anyway, I now have a new ship and am ready to venture into the past again.

To be honest I hope that new mission to come out soon is a KDF only mission as the Federation has more than enough unique missions, while the red side has so few. I hope they commit to their promise and don't touch the Federation side for at least 12 months and solely focus on the Klingon side so both factions will be fairly equal in terms of content and playability.

If you enjoyed what I called the bonnie-kin episode you'll love some later missions, not really horror themed but still very fun.

Took awhile to work my way through these missions. They were (and are) highly enjoyable. They have a very high Replay value as well. Not used to having the wits frightened out of me but the, "Bonnie Kin, Bonnie Kin", part actually made my skin crawl the first time I played it. Glad you enjoyed it as well, Terra. There are quite a few Community Authored missions available which have a similar theme.

While I am merrily blasting Mogais and Romulan BOPs (the D'deridexes are still trouble) with my Defiant, I've recently encountered a ton of connection issues. My internet access is quite fast, but the game constantly got the "server not responding" error. I started to fear the red line in my upper HUD. Now I've switched to the EU proxy and the game runs like a breeze!
Happy kitteh is happy. :excited:
