Hi all,
As my name implies I am a huge Star Blazers fan. Have been since I was 9 or 10 can't remember what year it came out here. So that makes me not old but elderly. Yes I can take a joke and I am open to any conversation about this show.
I have been a fan of starships since then and that got me interested in all things sci-fi related. At one time my comic book collection was over 1300, and my anime collection was over a 100 titles. Transporting that stuff was getting difficult and not increasing in values. So I decided to see if anything was digital yet, and behold comics are now digital and so are anime. I have since replaced all my stock and learned a new skill, computers. (On a side note, don't ask for me to download anything. I don't do that and discourage anyone from doing that as it 1. may be illegal in your area, and 2. Doesn't support the industry as a whole. I mean come on if no one buys anything where is the incentive to make more.)
This led to video games and Homeworld specifically. Always loved the starships and this game looked like a perfect excuse to fly star trek ships. Behold the SoA mod, and the modding community. From there I learned that you can make your own starships and textures and import these into a video game. A quick trip to the local community college and bingo a couple of classes in CAD and Graphic Design and I can make my own ships. Turns out there is no money in just making starships but there is in engineering and design so I went into that field and it is true, do what you love and the money will come. Well, not great money but you get my drift.
Back to the subject, starships, I have since found other games with starships and modding like Starfleet Command, Armada, Freespace, Bridge Commander, Wing Commander, etc... and have been collecting starships from them and from any genre and public mods. I have even found the Argo and Black Tigers. (On another side note, don't steel its bad juju. Give credit where credit is due and support the community with public access to your accomplishments. I feel that we are the reason sequels are made, so don't tick the industry off or your fellow modders.)
My hope is that I can give advise and encouragement to anyone making a mod, and vice versa. I have been known to dabble myself from time to time.
starblazerfan,
p.s. after rereading this, yeah I do sound old.
