:yuck:

So, Lucas has actually managed to butcher the show more than he already had. If you look at the Star Wars series on blu-ray, available for prepurchase now, it already has 600+ 1 star reviews and only 100 5 star. :Y And there is good reason for it. Read the first review to get a better understanding.

To summarize it, here is what the writer mentioned was changed in the original trilogy. The last one is particularly infuriating.

Now for the changed scenes:

A New Hope

- When R2-D2 hides in the shallow cave from the Sand People, there have been CGI rocks added in. The new rocks now cover up half of R2's body which makes him hidden better. However when he leaves a few seconds later, he just pulls forward and the rocks simply disappear!! Did they just forget to alter that scene too?

- Obi-Wan's introduction, he scares the Sand People away with a Krayt dragon call, has been redone again and now sounds like a jr. high kid making funny noises in Windows sound recorder. When I first heard it I thought no way, it's someone pulling a joke. It's sounds so bad and is so out of place, they made absolutely no effort to mix it in at all. You'll just have to hear it for yourselves... but sadly it's real. Unbelievable

- Greedo still shoots first. It is alot better than the DVD version.

Empire Strikes Back

- Wampa's arm in fixed. Looks good about time.

Return of the Jedi

- Jabba's Palace has a bigger door... ok?

- New CGI alien walking around in Jabba's palace as everyone sleeps. Poorly done and sticks out worse than a sore thumb... looks like Sebulba from Episode I?

- Ewok's now have CGI eyelids, blink, and sometimes make a clicking noise when they do. (maybe a tribute to Muppets/Fraggle Rock?)

- Darth Vader now screams "Noooooooooooo" as he picks up and throws the emperor, much like the way he does at the end of Episode III.... now twice!! This ruins a great and one of my favorite scenes. It's bad. The voice doesn't even sound like Vader's and it's just lazily pasted over the rest of the audio. Lucasfilm didn't make the effort to blend in at all..... what are they thinking????? If you really feel you need to add something like that, at least attempt a decent job.

So, I for one WILL NOT be buying the original trilogy. I already own the vhs, the 2005 edits, and then the original, unedited version on dvd. If Ep1-3 goes on sale for $20-30 I might buy it because edits on that I don't mind.

This just makes me mad.:x

I applaud the writer of the first comment, especially on his title. "So this is how Star Wars dies.... with a thunderous "NNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO"

I believe Lucus is loosing his mind, if he is behind this. I got no words....

I say leave the current movies alone, leave the era and make some new movies in another era, perhaps in the future with the Fel Empire and the Galactic Alliance or go back in time to the Revan era, but leave the current movies alone. They revamped them in the late 90's and that was okay but that should've been it.

It the Truth :x

These changes are an insult!! George Lucas has just disrespected the acting of Sir Alec Guinness and the puppetry mastery of Frank Oz. Listening to Sir Guinness and watching Yoda by Frank Oz has always mesmerized me since I first saw the Star Wars in the 1970s. It is a slap in their face for their hard work!! It's bad enough I had to deal with Greedo shooting first and Jar-Jar Binks/Stinks, but this is the final straw!! He should have realized that his use of CGI makes some movies terrible (e.g. Indiana Jones & Crystal Skull).

George only sees $$$ now and not an appreciation for the art of film making.

If you find a full list for what's being changed for the Blu-ray releases for the entire series, you can find stuff that actually makes sense, like the wampa arm fix or making the Episode I Yoda fit in with the rest of the movies, but a lot of this is just superfluous.

I say leave the current movies alone, leave the era and make some new movies in another era, perhaps in the future with the Fel Empire and the Galactic Alliance or go back in time to the Revan era, but leave the current movies alone.
I would love a movie taking place some time between KotOR II and The Old Republic MMO, but it would need to explain what happened to Revan and The Exile while still making sense to people that hadn't played the games. I don't know about the other eras since they're pretty much completely covered by books. Even the KotOR era is starting to get crowded.

If they were to do a KOTOR/TOR movie they would have to kick it off when Revan was a Sith fighting in the War against the Republic before his betrayal by Malak. They would also have to in that first movie have flashes of the Mandolarian Wars. As you're right, a lot of people haven't played the games and the movies would make absolutely no sense unless they explained quite a few things. I would also see it being a set of two trilogies, the first about Revan and the war against Malak and the second would be set in the TOR time and have the two connect like the games do.

However to be done right, Lucas would have to have NOTHING to do with it. As he would most likely screw it up like he did with Episode III.

I talked about this with a friend recently, and honestly, I wouldn't mind if they did an entirely CGI movie if they did it just like the TOR trailers. Those are impressive.

(Necro posting)

Ok, so I finally broke down and bought the bluray of Episodes 1-3. ($10 a piece) I will not break down to buy the others, but I was quite impressed with the ones I did get. Here is my opinion:

Episode I: (The best IMO)
Jar-jar CGI is better. Still not amazing, but better.

Eye lids added to some of the aliens like the Nemoidian Viceroy and the rest of his species.

Ships and vehicles have much better CGI including lighting, damage/grit and Engine effects. First thing that blew me away was the beginning shot with the yellow engines glowing spectacularly on the "Ambassadors'" cruiser.

Podrace looked better to me

Every shot of a city or landscape seems to have been redone and they all look amazing.

All effects, weapons and lighting have been enhanced and also look great.

Yoda is now CGI. Huge improvement on the awful puppet yoda.

Episode II: (I didn't see as much here, but similar things were done.)
Small scenes added, effects and landscapes have all been enhanced or redone.

Episode III: (the only one with edits I didn't like)
There were a bunch of little CGI scenes added, specifically with starfighters involved. (See demise of Plo-Koon at order 66)

Certain scenes were re-cut(for example, see the first scene in the begining with Anikin and Obi-wan talking while in starfighters). Some of them were not well done and look kind of butchered, others are ok.

Again, graphics and effects redone very well.

Believe it or now, but I would actually recomend getting these. They are(at least Episode I) huge improvements on the previous versions.
