• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

Hello there. I am spartan078 I live in Louisiana. I would say I'm a pretty good modder only when it comes to odfs, those are relatively easy (once i got the hang of them). I don't have the software to make my own models or textures nor do I have the skills necessary to do so. I am working on a quasi-Star Trek Vs Star Wars Mod for Fleet Operations, in fact I was hoping to get permission to release the first part of it because it uses models and textures from the Original Star Wars Fleet Command mod for Stock A2. I plan four to have four sides, New Republic, Galactic Empire, Separatists, Old Republic. As of now the new factions will be done as avatars for stock races. If Majestic or someone can give me permission to release this mod I would very grateful. If you would like to try my mod out please send me an email.

Welcome to MSFC, glad to have you with us. We have a lot of good modders here that will no doubt love to give you advice in your modding endeavours.

As for Star Wars Fleet Command mod, many years ago (2007) I got permission to use their work in my own as long as I gave them the required credit. Since they have all moved on I suggest that you could do the same, as long as you try to contact them and give them full credit I see no reason why you can't use their work.

MSFC is a good place to find out information like this, a lot of older modders come here and some of the A2Files staff also show up now and then to offer advice.

Again welcome to MSFC. :D

Thanks, on fleetops it was suggested I contact Major A Payne for permission. I sent him a private message over there but haven't gotten a response back. So if I release this on Fleetops or here, I'd need a readme to go with that says something like 'all credit for the models and textures goes to the original Star Wars Fleet Command Team' right?

Terra_Inc here, of the A2Files staff. Our general rule is along these lines: If people do not answer messages and you've tried all ways of contacting them then you are free to use the material provided you give credit. Two conditions: If the creator outright states he doesn't want reuse, then you are not allowed to use the material. Period. And if the creator should reappear in the scene and request his material to be removed, you must oblige.
Now, this is the system we use over at the old site. It's a good rule, and it has always worked out pretty well the last years. Now of course Maj and Doca may see this differently, and they have the right to decide, but I personally think this method is not too unreasonable or unpractical.

MAP's definitely still around, it just may take some time to reach him.

I use the same method as Terra just mentioned. I have removed files here before as an author has requested it. As Terra says it's a good rule and respects the rights of the artist. The fact that I got permission from Stalker for the reuse of everything (I tracked him down in 2007) says to me as long as you credit everything of theirs that you use, you'll be safe.

A detailed list would be better than just, all models and sounds by artist name. As you may have work from more than one artist in there, like some from the Fleet Command team, some from Major Payne etc.

It's also very useful in that most of the old modelers don't hang around anymore and may not be using their old e-mail address, making them impossible to contact.

Thanks for the help guys I'll be releasing the first part on Fleet Ops, then here. I asked for permission because every star wars model and texture I'm using for the Rebels and Imperials came from that mod. I'll have to track down whoever did the clone wars addon eventually because I plan to do a Republic and CIS side as well (although there is a seeming lack of models for Clone wars era ships). I've designed this mod to be very fighter intensive, so I've added fighters to more classes and avatars for every stock race except the Borg. I have the Scorpion (by mishkaco) for the Romulans and I'm using the stock fighters for the Dominion and Federation. If anyone has a good Klingon fighter other than the one in the Star Wars vs Star Trek Demo, I'd greatly appreciate it. I'm not really adding ships to the stock sides just adding fighters. Like I added Scorpion fighters to the Norexan and D'Deredex-classes as well as making a Carrier-refit Generix-class.

The Akiras, Sovereigns, Galaxys, Descents, San Fransisco-type Nebulas and Avalons and Outpost also carry fighters. And Veteran Intrepids get four delta flyers.

"A detailed list would be better than just, all models and sounds by artist name. As you may have work from more than one artist in there, like some from the Fleet Command team, some from Major Payne etc."

The readme doesn't seem to have a specific list of each artist for every ship. It just has a list of team members and their roles.

"Stalker -
SW:FC Project Leader. Majority of the Star Wars (SW) Modding, AI, Music, Rebel Voiceovers, Mon Cal Cruiser Voiceovers
Angel -
STvsSW Project Leader. Some (initial) Star Wars modding, Imperial Voiceovers
Sim Rex -
Assistant modder, Modeler/SOD Converter, AI, Imperial Voiceovers
Loccu -
All SW Build/Tech Buttons, GUI Interfaces, Splash startup picture, Website Designer, Main Menu Animations and Background
Idler -
Modeler/SOD Converter
Storm -
Modeler/SOD Converter
Challenger -
Modeler/SOD Converter
Major A. Payne-
Modeler/SOD Converter, Beta Tester, Installer
MightyMidget -
Texturer
MoD Seatbelt -
Modeler, Beta Tester"

Since all I'm using are the textures and models a phrase like "All credit for models and textures go to the Star Wars Fleet Command team"

I'm using stock pulse weapons and voiceovers right now.

The Clone Wars mini mod is by Major Payne, however all the models and textures are from other sources and need to be credited.

Also if you release the mod here, make sure no model or texture assets from FO included in the mod, ODF's are fine but the assets can't be re-hosted. Best way is to use the mod systems and just use the basename command.
