• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

I am unsure if this is the place for this or even if this link to a BBC News story is allowed, but I felt pretty strongly that all of our PlayStation/PSN users should be aware of this if they are not already.

Aftre reading this i was justifiably concerned. Sony are the ones responsible for not being careful enough with personal data yet they will ask that gamers trust them and excuse them from future acts of carelessness. Not on my dime, you don't! Not buying anything Sony or PlayStation related unless or until they relent from this policy.

Wow. Talk about trying to weasle your way out of something. In a way I'm a bit supprised by this; the Japanese are traditionally very focused on customer service and such and rarely try to weasle out of screw ups (correct me if I'm wrong).

I've never had a console, only PC games, and always thought the PC was better, but to me this somehow proves this belief.

It is allowed because I say it is allowed

Sony is shooting themselves in the foot with that statement.. And will only give Nintendo and Xbox an extra leg in the market... imo anyways :p

My god, they screw up, break the law and then they force this upon their customers, some who have been with them since the PS1 and PS One days. Seriously, they have just as Katala said shot themselves in the foot. I can see the Sony Playstation being gone in the next decade, supplanted (hasn't it already) by Nintendo and Microsoft.

I have always had nothing but bad things to say about Sony and the Playstation, and it's sad to be proven right on most of them. I am with you Uncle Thunder, I am going to boycott all Sony products, until they come to their senses. Which I don't see happening any time soon.

Sony are one of the prime movers behind the DRM regulations and the most prone to prosecute under the laws. The problem with this is it comes up in the Terms Agreement and is a part of it. Most people scroll down to the "I agree" button as fast as they can. There is an Opt Out procedure, but it effectively bans one from PSN. I would ask this little news nugget be posted everywhere and anywhere to help inform people what they are agreeing to. I also hope this high handed and uncaring act on their part puts the final nail in Sony's coffin. And I mean this sincerely. Long past time they were a lot more responsive to their customers and reminded of who pays for what they do. Happened to Netflix. They are thinking hard about reversing their recent price increase for DVD rental. Losing one million accounts in slightly less than one month will make any CEO sit up and take notice. According to the law here in the US, I can sue the Federal or a State government as part of a class action suit for their negligence. Where does Sony Corp get off thinking they can evade responsibility under this for future missteps on their part with my personal data? They have to have my agreement prior to such a thing. Not going to spend another penny on anything Sony and will actively and strongly encourage others to do likewise.

It's pretty pathetic if you ask me, I guess individuals are not the only ones in our day and age who try to evade responsibility for their actions. *shakes head*

It is interesting, but it is also in addition to the $1mil personal data loss deal they made to assure you get any money back if that ever happened again. Hopefully this is all in response to feelings that they aren't doing enough to protect us. When you ask for something like this free, there are surely certain things you must give them control of.

Anyway, it does not limit our power as users, it is simply there to prevent gamer organizations from suing the company. Since I am not in any organization like that, I have no problem with it.

And I actually got an email from PSN saying that the terms had changed and I could opt out if I wanted to.

edit: and unlike what the article says, it is not a ban you face, you just can't do anything without accepting the terms first. Just like here on msfc, it simply says you need to read them first before you play online. I think ban is the incorrect word.

Even with all of this, I still like my ps3 better than an xbox because of its features, and free online access.
