• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

So How's Legacy?

The game is available for a few euros ATM and I was thinking about buying it. I've heard many rumors about it being not very good, but the engine is supposed to be better than A2's.
So I decided to ask those who already played it. Is it worth those few euros?

Its good - but flawed.

I have it for the XBOX, and I would not recommend it for the console. Too limited, although the controlls are much better than for the PC version.

As for the engine - its based on A2, and so is quite moddable.
I would buy it, as it is cheap, and the graphics are actually really good.

Plus, the downfall on the XBOX is that it isnt moddable. On the PC, you can add ships etc... So that would increase the life span of the game no end...

The engine is A2 on steroids, still using sods and odfs, the keyboard controls are a serious pain and i hear you cannot change them...at all. Though i have to say the mods out there do a pretty nice job of making the thing a beauty. As for the controls its easy to by a controller (Xbox 360) the plugs in to the comp, canceling the entire control issue

IF im wrong please Correct

I just finished the game two weeks ago. I found that the storyboard of the game is interesting and indeed flawed. The game play is enjoyable (PC version) and once I got used to the controls, it became second nature. All in all, I give the game a . Yes, I have indeed added a few ships.

I have it on the Xbox360 which have died, both of them.

But I'd say if it's cheap get it. It's not bad but not as long lived compared to A2. But it's not a bad game, so if you have the cash to spare I say go grab it especially if it's the PC version I certainly would. :)

In my experience it was choppy and buggy. Must have been incompatible.

You need a strong computer to avoid the lagging, don't go for minimum reqs. for the game, go for recommended. Or the game will be choppy.
I have never experienced the lagging.

About bugs; Yes, they rushed to get the game out. But the mods and patches for the PC version will eliminate the bugs.

I recommend the game if you were to get the PC version, just make sure your computer meets the recommended reqs. :)

Well, my computer isn't exactly a high-end machine, but I've never experienced heavy lags (even when playing Achilles' AOW for A2, which is TEH RAM KILLAH, so to speak.)

So, I'll be trying to get it this week. Hope to be able to put mods on it next week :)

It sucks. With community mods it might be ok, but it is a very pretty game with a horrible AI and hardly any features

Yeah, so, the game is incredibly laggy unless you have at lease the required graphics, and the game usually doesn't work out of box. Thankfully there are plenty of fixes out there to get it to work properly.

All being said, I think the game has potential. You could make a pretty cool ST flight sim. out of it, or simply a capitalship brawl. Its mod-ability makes it very flexible, but also fragile. Either way, it has decent gameplay if you can get past the controls. I would recomend the game, only if you are willing to put alot of effort into it:thumbsup:(and will share what you make with the rest of us!)

I would say it definitely has potential. You can look up the modification called The Ultimate Universe mod that completely rebuilds the game, as long as you have a decent comp today's graphics card at least low to mid end should be able to play the game now ^^.

Need to seek out Star Trek Legacy for PC, should of gotten it when it was still being released into retail stores. Sounds like the game is almost as good as ST:A2.

I never took the time to play this game. Kind of regret not having done so with all the fantastic screenshots I've seen. Not to mention the you tube vids.

I got it on Xbox 360 it's an ok game just a shame they didn't have more time in production and post production. Such things as better PC controls and level select would had been much better.

The PC version is worth getting for the modding option, sadly the console version lacks this.

Legacy made me fall in love with ENT-era Earth/Fed designs. Other than that, it's an ok game.

The development team abandoned this game before bugs where fixed and no SDK was released so it was hard to port ships in and out of the game

I seem to have problems importing these into MS3D, at least the higher-poly models. Is there another program that doesn't have a problem with high-poly models that someone could recommend?

Its a problem for me as well, I tried the .mod importer for 3ds Max, but apparently the plug-in is too old for my version. You could give it a shot if you have 3ds Max.

Given the trouble folks seem to be having, we may need that Puss 'n Boots screencap after all.
Hello:
Well, maybe we can't win them all :( . Unless someone does save us :D .

A bit of a lead here gents, the CV model viewer for SFC3 has an option to convert the stuff into SOD format. Its a decent workaround, expect smoothing errors though.
