• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

So Apparently I'm Taking a Modding Break...

So I improved my Wine setup considerably just in time to see an update render the drive that all of my Windows programs were on almost completely useless. Since I don't have the space to backup the data to my main drive and since there's a good 64GB worth of data moving it to another computer using my 2GB phone as a thumb drive isn't exactly practical.

Until I can find a way to fix it, it looks like I won't be able to do any modding since none of the programs will run. I'm going to go scream obscenities at my computer now.:x:cry2:

It's not Wine's fault; it looks like this was caused by an update to the Linux kernel. They lost some functionality with Apple's HFS+ file system, which I was using to fix case sensitivity issues in Windows programs. It looks like there's a possible fix, but I would need a Mac to do it.

EDIT: I fixed it!!!!!!:excited: I just needed to install a program so I could run a check on the file system. It looks like I unmounted it the wrong way or something the last time I shut down my computer. Anyway, now that it's working properly again, I can mod again!

Shortest break ever :lol2:

Well, I though that it was going to be several days or even weeks of searching the internet looking for somebody else who had the same problem and actually bothered to say how they fixed it rather than just saying, "nevermind, fixed it." That or giving up and buying a new hard drive so I could save my data. I didn't exactly expect to find a result after just a couple hours.

Hello:
It is good to see you are back into modding, even though that by the time I knew you needed to take that break you were back already :lol2:.

CABAL,

I realize everyone is on a tight budget these days but with external hard drives being so cheap can you really afford not to have one. If nothing else, it would seem you need a hard drive back-up solution to be sure and an external hard drive is a good way to go. You'll of course need to develop the habit of routinely backing up your data.

I do have a couple extra hard drives, they just weren't big enough to back up what I had. We used to have a 100GB drive lying around, but I wound up having to use it in a computer after the drive that was in it died about a month ago. On top of that, until we get my social security card and ID card replaced I can't get a job. Replacing one wouldn't be bad if I had the other, but there are a lot of hoops to jump through if you don't have either so it's taking a while.
