• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

This is the XM-8, a German build demonstrator. It has been projected by Heckler & Koch (that also manufactures the MP5 SMG). Initially it has been developed as a successor to the US-Army's M-4/M-16 rifles, but was rejected then...

I have some XM-8s with additional equipment eg Red Dot Close Combat Aimpoints or tactical lights etc etc.

Nice. Is this the same Air gun your getting?

Edit: I found what you are getting... A SoftAir M-4 Carbine. Sorry for the mistake EA.

All right, I changed the topic to "Small Arms". Post any models of small arms you made yourself here.

And I start:
Heckler & Koch HK416. The similarities to the Colt M-4 Carbines are striking, and indeed it is based on it.

However, the 416 is a much more reliable weapon. While the M4 was meant for troop support personnel, and later on used by Spec-Ops due to the short length, needs to be maintained nearly every day, the 416 can be operated under the most hostile environments, including desert, ice, heavy rain etc etc without the need for extensive cleansing.
US Law Enforcement, as the SWAT teams, the DEA and other units use the 416. It succeeds the G36C, which is also manufactured by H&K and based on the Standard Rifle of the German Armed Forces.

Textures for both DEA and US Special Forces are in preparation.

Built time for the mesh was about five hours plus one hour photo search, information gathering and first tries. I will do some additions to the mesh, like a red dot (or scope), TacLight, front grip, flip-up rear and front sights and maybe some rail covers...

Ironically the model I made is quite similar to the XM-8, revolutionary, innovative and designed to replace the standard US army rifle except this rifle is 116 years older. The Krag-Jørgensen, first bolt-action rifle of the US Army replacing the the trapdoor loading Springfields from before the civil war.

Here is it

Comparison of all three

The textures were made using the pattern tool in fireworks, they seem sort of realistic although some parts need improvement. Although this is a Milkshape model so it will probably not be one par with a 3ds one anyway.

PS: The models are still not complete as their is some work to do on the scope and bolt.

I would say, you can make models in MS3D that rival 3DS. It just depends on how you go about it.

The rifles all look great guys.

Thanks, and you did a good job with your rifles too, I just mistook them for 3ds ones because of the incredible detail, great shadows and the black and navy blue as opposed to stock milkshape blue I have as my 3d window background.

Give me a day and the software...

Will do!

Well, I always render my work in 3dsMax, though it is produced with MS3d.

I wanted to get around making a French FAMAS assault rifle (skip the French jokes, please :p) but I never started... A Beretta CX4 was also on my list...

lets face it the future of weaponry is neatly being split between the cyclical breach block and the metal storm EM launcher...
