The Sarah Jane Adventures (Review)
Series 01 - Episodes 03 & 04
"Eye Of The Gorgon" Pts 01 & 02.
"Invasion Of The Bane", the New Years Day Special, established the format of the show.
"Revenge of The Slitheen" S101 & S102 got the show off and running. (S101 & S102).
In "Eye Of The Gorgon" we have another fun, yet spooky romp with Sarah Jane and friends as they battle sinister Nuns and the alien "Gorgon". (I'm not going to give away any major plot points so as not to spoil your viewing pleasure).
And yet at the same time the writer has managed to include sub plots dealing with Sarah Janes own (possible) future as she encounters an nursing home resident whose life of alien encounters, (those potato headed fellows), matches her own; and Maria having to deal with her parents divorce, the realization that encounters with the unknown can have very serious consequences, it's not all fun and games.
For the alert, the story has references to the Cybermen and other DW aliens, (as mentioned above), and there's a wonderful reference to the 1964 film "The Gorgon", (available on DVD), with Barbara Shelly, Peter Cushing, who played The Doctor in the two 1960 film adaptations of the first two Dalek scripts, and which features a very young looking Patrick Troughton, who would go on to play the second Doctor shortly after. Obviously the writer did his homework throwing in this for older viewers to enjoy.
Definitely a show for the younger viewer, but still entertaining enough for the whole family, and the young at heart, to enjoy.
