I still cannot for the life of me..get hardpoints to rotate properly. I want to have aft firing torpedo launchers on my Galaxy Class ships..and I can not get the damn hardpoint to seem to face the right direction.. Ive read various tutorials and checked out different models that do have rotated hardpoints..but I can't replicate the technique. Any thoughts??

Well, if its MS3D then I use this method.

Build the model and hardpoint as normal. Then select the hardpoint that you want to face in a different direction (hp55 in this example).
HP_rot_01.png
Create a new child HP from the hardpoint that you want moved. I always ensure that its the top view and the child hardpoint is in front of the hardpoint we want to point in a different direction (i.e. joint78 is a child of hp55).
HP_rot_02.png
I then move the child (joint 78) to a different position so that the arrow from the hardpoint to the child hardpoint is facing the direction I want it to point.
HP_rot_03.png
And thats all their is to it. hp55 is now pointing in the direction of joint 78. The one gotcha to watch out for is not to have the weapon odfs coded with a firing arc that constrains fire forwards - as the weapon will still fire forwards.

I also find that pairing up a forward and an aft launch helps so that the weapon appears to hand off as the ship passes.

So how, then, would you force it to only fire backwards if not with a fire arc?

If I recall from the last time I played about with stuff, torpedoes fire in the direction of the hardpoint before they start tracking. I've never dome much with directing pulses and beam weapons, but I think the time I tried with pulses using an arc forced the pulse to fire forwards. It was a while ago though.

Edit - I do need to look at this again anyway, tailguns on the B52 need to shoot backwards!

I wonder if there is a specific arc you can use to get it to go backwards?

I know something like 160 is forwards, so maybe something like -160?

Yea..def didnt work..i rerotated the hardpoint using the method you described from the top view...i then saved and exported. I went into the weapon and and removed the firearc command as I did have that there..but both torpedo launchers still fire at the same time...BLAH. I did have them paired up before but I was thinking that this method would work..but no dice.. suuuxx
