• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

Recent Experience with My Dell

Ok so I figured I would share what has been going on the past four weeks with my Dell Inspiron 9400 laptop as it this whole thing was a pain in the rear but also has a few funny parts and I think you guys would find this funny especially SYF as he heard about my laptop from me when it first began!

About four weeks ago, my laptop decided it was going to give me issues and start freezing up randomly. I told my fiance to look at it and see what was wrong. He wouldn't look at it and said it was only because I had so much stuff taking up space on it. I knew that wasn't the reason as I haven't been keeping much stuff on my laptop since the first time windows 7 was put on it. A few days later, he started messing with the thing and got frustrated and ran his scans and found a trojan or virus or something in it so that promted him to do what he does best and try to fix it. nothing was working so he decided to reformat it. He thought he had it fixed. Last week I try to get on my laptop while my fiance is sick as to not disturb him and I went to watch an interview on Youtube of my favorite drummer Ginger Fish (Rob Zombie and Marilyn Manson). The darn thing started acting up again. I get my brother to look at it and he did a few things that I had him do before and it didn't work. Finally my fiance decides to wipe the hard drive completely clean and start from scratch. Got windows xp on and still acted up. Tried to update the bios but said it wouldn't without a battery (my battery hasn't worked in eons). He found out how to get around it by getting a usb bootable drive to boot up DOS and force the bios update that way. We thought we had it last night but it still acted up. Fiance looked at it again and realized one of the fans isn't running on it to keep it cool. We took a can of air too it, couldn't get the fan spinning so we took the ENTIRE laptop apart to get to the fan. we took the fan out and behold a giant dead bug sitting in the fan preventing the fan from moving! Lol. we got everything cleaned and put the laptop back together. had to reset the clock on the system because we had to pop that battery out in order to get to the fan. booted up the laptop, went to youtube, and the videos worked and the fan started working perfectly. the system is now running at a nice cool temperature and even my speakers work like they should!

so if you have issues like this, make sure there isn't a bug sitting in your fan! lol. i had a bug in my system. literally!

thought i would share this with you all!

oh and hi!!!!!!!!! i know i haven't been on in forever but the laptop being broke was kind of the reason why.

Lol, for someone who is squashing software bugs on a daily basis this is just hilarious. :lol2:

Nice. So this would be technically called a "Hardware bug" then. Hmmmm. I can see a serious amount of "bug" related jokes coming here.

One point to make though. Just make sure if you take any pc or laptop apart that you don't end up with extra "bits" left over......

Hehe, agreed.

As I recall, the term "bug" started when an actual bug was found in the workings of a computer (and by computer I mean something the size of a room).

Asking Brother and Fiance to help was where you went wrong.
What you really needed was some proper help:D

Now that you have got the Bugs out of the system, I hope you never have green oozing stuff coming out of it... it might end up being a virus.:lol2:

Good way to rid yourself of bugs, but an even better way to get a furball instead..:excited:
