• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

Problems with MS3D

I had a trial version of MS3D 1.8.4 which has long since expired installed. I've unistalled MS3D using the uninstall.exe but it left some things behind in the registry. Apparently, these are causing some errors to crop up in my AV and firewall apps. In short, they have missed a couple of things they should not have. I've no idea why this should occur only that it has. This is what is causing the problem, AFAIK. I am unsure which files in the registry need to be removed or changed. Anyone know the extensions or filenames of the files which MS3D leaves behind in the registry? I've no real problem with the dev protecting his work, but this is my computer and I'll use it as I see fit. Or I'll know the reason why.

As for any registry problem you might be having, it seems that Ccleaner
generally works well for fixing those. I use the one from Piriform. I've got no clue
as to how it works its magic, but it seems to do amazingly well at getting rid of issues.
I think searching "Piriform+Ccleaner" should yield desired results.
Yay, I'm trying to :help:! Tell me if you've used/or it doesn't work, so we can
avoid use of the trial of MS3d and the possibility of getting stuck with problems.

Awesome, eagerly awaiting your results!
And for uninstalling progs really thoroughly my suggestion is a program called "REVO Uninstaller". It normally does a deep uninstall that gets everything, including registry related items.

A registry cleaner sounds like the best way, it's what I would do.

That's exactly what Ccleaner is made to do, clean the registry and any
cookies/junk that may mess with performance, other than malicious programs.

They worked. Problem is solved. I found out something disturbing about the MS3D installer though. By clicking on the "I agree" button, you are giving Chumbalum Software the ability to delete any software already on your computer which could possibly be used to bypass the registration process. Without notifying you it will do so or giving you the option to stop the MS3D installation before it continues. This is a DRM issue if I ever saw one. I had a piece of freeware installed which is called RegMon. Handy little app which tracks and notifies you of all changes in the registry. MS3D's installer removed it. I cannot find it anywhere. Upon further investigation of the decompiled exe for MS3D, it is deliberately set up to do this to any application which might possibly allow one to break the time limit code on the trial version. I am all for the protection of intellectual property rights, people should profit from their work after all if they want to. But to set things up to deny me the ability to use my computer as I see fit to do so is to call me a liar and a thief prior to the event occuring. Like most people, I really dislike being called such. Bet your last ha'penny I'll never use or say anything nice about MS3D or chumbalum software ever again. The filters in place here would probably permaban me if they had audio pickups when I discovered what had happened.
