• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

[Help] Porting old A2 mods to FO

I've been looking into porting some old Armada 2 mods I enjoyed (B5A2 in particular) to Fleet Ops, as stock Armada 2 refuses to work on my PC, even with the 1.2.5 update. To anyone who has ported mods from A2 to FO before, what exactly needs to be changed in the ODFs to have the mods be compatible with the STA2 Classic mod for FO, and is there any quirks between FO and A2 I should watch out for?

It's been a while since I ported the B5 mod, but I believe there are two ways to go about it.

1) The Easy Way - Copy and paste the Classic Mod folder so there are two versions sitting in the mods folder, then simply copy the mod's contents over the duplicated Classic Mod. You'll want to edit the duplicate's info.ini file so that you don't have two mod menu entries with the same label, but that's all the editing necessary. This method should be super easy, but eat a bit more drive space.

2) The Slightly Less Easy Way - Create a new mod module that uses the Classic Mod as a parent. This requires a bit more work since you need to create some files, but it's still pretty simple. This method only eats as much drive space as the mod you want to port since you don't wind up with any duplicates of files.

In the latest version of FO (3.2.7) there is no need to edit any ODFs. Some variables were renamed in earlier versions, such as latinumCost becoming tritaniumCost, but those have all been reverted.

Thanks for the help, I didn't realize porting stuff to FO was so easy. I was under the impression there would be changes to the ODF file structure, so it's a huge relief to me that it's actually identical.

I've got B5A2 working with FO now, following your advice and this handy tutorial from the FO website. Again, thanks for the tips.

I tried the copy/paste method with A2's Future Wars mod but it doesn't seem to work. I'm not sure what to do to fix it.
