[Help] Out of Memory Increase Swap File Size

Anybody here had some problems with Aad's Breen/Dominion improved models and textures 1.0? I installed these beautiful files, but whenever i choose Breen, game just kicks me to desktop with "Out of Memory Increase Swap File size" message. Anyone else tried Aad's mod and had similar experience? Dominion side works for some time but then, out of nowhere, game just stops working, no messages at all... I suspect that some ODF files might be missing " sign somewhere inside, but i am not sure so i was hoping somebody installed these before and discovered solution to the problems? Tnx...

This leads me to believe there is a missing " in one of the odf's. I haven't tried that mod of his yet, but do you recall which ship/station was to be built at the time? Maybe a weapon was fired which caused it? Were you doing anything or was it the AI doing something?

Well, Dominion works ok until item6 in dyard(dcruiser2) gets made and then, game just crushes. Except missing textures for dcolony and non-working upgrade facility(you can click on upgrades but nothing happens), everything else seems ok. Breen, however, i don't know, whenever i try to create a game with Breen, game just crashes after loading screen. I tried to discover why is that, i discovered that brconstruct had weapon1 and weapon 1 instead of weapon 1 and weapon2, but after that, situation remains the same. I checked every Breen ship and station, but was unable to find missing coma or wrong weapon orderd.

If the game crashes when using Breen I would think it's something to do with the Breen race file or one of it's starting units like the base or construction ship. Whatever units are on the map when the game starts.

Some file for that specific race that is immediately accessed upon start up must have an error in it. As for the dominion cruiser it must be that file or a weapon file that it accesses.

You may get it fixed sooner, but I'll take a look too when I get the chance.

Tnx, Rifraf. i'll look into it. I am going on vacation for a few days, if nothing else, i will pick file by file. :)

I agree that it's likely a missing quote problem. It's been a while since I've worked with ODFs, but I think there's a bunch of files that can cause that, other than ships and stations. I would check faction and weapon ODFs as well.

If you don't use one yet, I recommend getting an editor with syntax highlighting. It really helps when you're trying to find missing quotes and such.

I checked base, construction and scout odf-s, but i just can't find missing quote. Weapon odfs seem fine, too, there were only couple of them. Well, perhaps i am just blind or unfocused. Doesn't matter, in a couple days, when i get back from sea, i'll pick every file, one by one, perhaps then i will find problematic one. And, once again, tnx, both of you :)

As Terra and Rifraf mentioned, this kind of problem points towards either a missing or misplacement of the " marking.I've run into this sort of problem extensively when modding my own personal A2 game and have always had that be the culprit.

Given that you mention two errors occurring when a specific ship is built or a specific race is used, here are your likely candidates:

For the Breen, that crash your game immediately on loading screen:
1) Breen race odf
2) Breen starting units odf; ie brconst, brbase, etc. (Anything that is supposed to be built when the game first loads)
3) Breen weapons/special weapons odf on the starting ships

For the Dominion, which crashes when the 7th ship on your yard's build list (6 in the odf, since the list counts 0 as the first unit):
1) Whatever ship's odf file corresponds to lucky number 7, ie dbattle or whatever
2) Any weapons odf belonging to that ship
3) Possibly any physics file (Errors in the physics file may cause crashes, missing physics file make the ship stay inside the shipyard after being built and cannot move), dphaser2, dphoton1, etc.
4) The ship is not listed in the tech1.tt list
5) A weapon on the ship's odf is not listed within the weapons.spr

That's what I can think off of the top of my head. Believe me, I've learned of all these crashes meticulously from one crash after another.

Most of the times I find the error in one of the weapons, in the descriptions at the top of the ship's odf, or in the damage hardpoints list beneath the weapons list. Let's say that the mistake is in a hardpoint called "hp03"; many of the common mistakes I find are either a missing " (Ex. "hp03) or they misplace the " in the entry (Ex. "hp0"3).

Back from out of town and...... I just realized this needs the Dominion Ultimate 1.4 extension mod. You have that mod installed and everything else works correct with that mod? Sorry, I forgot this wasn't for stock Armada 2.

I don't have that mod installed so cannot really comment further, but it has to be as Archonon listed with one of the files in game missing something.

Yes, of course, i installed A2, 1.1 patch, Ultimate Dominion 1.1 and 1.4 extension. It's probably one of those things Archonon listed, i'll look into it after summer vacation... btw, tnx for checking into it :)

Finally caught some time to start doing this, and i installed Brbase, brconst and brscout individually, they are not causing crash, game functions perfectly so it must be some other ship or station. Eventually i will find out which one it is. Btw, to anyone interested in Aad's incredible Breen/Dominion mod, unfortunately, textures for brconst ship are missing.

I found the file with missing ". It is Breen freighter, brfreight.odf, the missing " is in the sensorTargetHardpoints = hp01".

Congrats Klingon, finding those typos is many times a lengthy and painful process. But I hope that your game now runs smoother because of it.

Well, it will run smoothly, eventually. Right now, i don't have too much time available, but neverthless, i am in a process of adjusting entire A2/1.1/Dominion mod 1.4 to my taste. That means rescaling stuff according to ex astris scientia. And, of course, using coolest ships available and tinkering with AIPs so factions can behave as in series. I just don't respect Dominion AI which doesn't produce swarms of Jem'Hadar fighters. :) Tnx for good wishes, i will surely have more questions if i stuck somewhere. :)

Hi, it's been a while since i posted anything about this Aad's incredible update of ST Gamer's Dominion mod... For most part, it is really great stuff, i like my Dominion War re-enactments on my lap, but i would like to post this list of stuff from the mod that makes it difficult to enjoy it unless some stuff are changed in the odf files. Of course, some files are missing sods and textures but that is beyond my skill although i simply ignored that or replaced them with something else. Also, there is problem with Breen trading station that works perfectly ingame, but it crashes admiral's log and map editor. I really don't know what is problem with that, i do remember using ST Gamer's pure Dominion mod, before Aad's, and it had the same problem with admiral's log. I don't know if it was the trading station back then, but sure it is now. It really confuses me, so i had to replace that trading station with the Dominion's one.

Missing textures: breen constrution ship (brconst), breen escort cruiser (brcruise2), dominion repair ship (dsrepair)

Missing sod, odf or both: breen repair ship (brsrepair), breen sensor satellite(brsensor), dominion colony ship (dcolony),

Wrong craft designation or missing " :

breen freighter (brfreight) - it has wrong craft designation, it has cargo.odf instead of freight.odf. As i mentioned earlier in this post, it has missing ", it is in is in the sensorTargetHardpoints = hp01".

Ship odf-s with non-existent weapons that crashes the game and editor:

Jem Hadar strike cruiser( dcruise2) - it has wrong and non-existent torpedo in the weapon slot 2, once changed, it works perfectly

Ship odf-s with misspelled weapons that cause crash ingame and editor, but once corrected, they work perfectly:

Breen dreadnought( brbattle2) and Commander Thot Gor battleship(Cbrbattle): one is regular version, other one is a hero version, they both have misspelled weapon number 4. Correct "gCMBreenernergy" to "gCMBreenenergy" and both ships will be perfectly functional.



That's it, folks. Except breen trading station, nothing here is too mysterious. I hope you'll enjoy Aad's mod, cause despite some missing stuff, it is very enjoyable and beautiful mod.
