• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

Art, it comes in many forms and varieties. We have many talent people out here. This poll is so you can discuss and say what you like (positively of course) about your favourite artists.

This is not a popularity contest but just a place where you can compliment people generally about their work. I have heaps of people I would like to put down in this first post, but if I do there would be no one left so I will name a few to start with.

Syf: I've known him since 2004, been working with him on projects since day one. He is a quality modeller and texture-maker as well as general all round artist. He is able to get a single image and flesh out an entire fleet like he has with the Federation mod of old and the Gorn and Kzinti fleets for Yesteryears. He is often under appreicated, due to know posting a lot of his stuff privately.

Katala: An upcoming 2D artist, whoms art is primarily based off photography, which she also does herself. She has progressed far in the past few months with Photoshop being her preferred medium and tool of choice. She produces art that I generally wouldn't dream of doing and excels at her preferred medium.

Jetfreak: Where do I start, not only has been developed an amazing talent in take in-game shot using Armada 2 as his rendering engine, but his 2d work, sketches and ship design, are top quality. If I could do even half of what Jetfreak can do I would be proud. He has even started to endeavour into making ship textures (as seen in the latest Dawnstar release late last year).

Please continue with your choice of quality artists and feel free to comment and post about any that I or anyone else has posted about as well. :)

I'd like to mention at the very least, Apoclaydon and The Undying Nephalim, as they have been never ending fountains of knowledge and have greatly advanced my modding knowledge, always with a smile .

I would say, TUN, being one of the most creative artists I've ever seen in A2,

Majestic, of course, for his outstanding style and low-poly filled talent,

Kjc, for all his un-praised work behind the scenes of all sorts of things,

and Thunderfoot(you knew you were gonna end up here for something:p) who's physics mod is a work of art in itself, not to mention all his other perfected mods that have changed the way we think about a2.

Many others of course, but I can only state a few as to not go overboard.:) Soo many good modders who could be mentioned here.

Can I nominate me? :ty:

Nah - just kidding - I would like to give a great big Chocolate Cake to;

Jetfreak - Ive been a massive fan of his rendering and screen shot work since time, yo. The guy has a great eye for composition and a masterful grasp of Photoshop. He has drawn some of the most awesome 2d orthographic designs I have ever seen and he also has the most awesome name in the history of everything, ever (except maybe Englebert Humperdink or Sonny Chiba...)

Majestic - He's the boss. In more ways than one - he really has done so much for the community and MSFC is the place to be. Also his modeling and texturing work is some of the best I have seen - he proves that you do not need 10,000,000,000,000 poly monster meshes in order to make stuff look good - take a look at his BSG work, Parallels work, or any of his Star Trek themed stuff and you'll know what I mean. Also, he's Australian which is one of the more awesome nationalities. They also have the most awesome turn of phrase ever - NO WORRIES, EH?. Good on ya mate!

Thunderfoot - This guy has an unnerving and admirable capacity for attention to detail. the physics project, in its many, many incarnations has been a standard component in my personal installation for a looooong time now. Also, he works in areas that others overlook. Now don't get me wrong, he has produced awesome graphic work (be it screen shots or re texture work) and for that alone he would make my list - but other work, like AI scripting, SPC coding, even his tool tips ferchrissake, are awesome (not to mention his map making)! Also, he knows how to drive and operate the main gun on a tank, is proficient in the use of small arms, can smell the enemy at 500 yards, drink home made corn whiskey, probably likes a cigar, and always, always talks straight from the heart. Basically like a genetic cross between Walker Texas Ranger and Sold Snake... Yes, he also has the most manly of facial accessories, a beard. :worship:

CABAL - Yes sir, everyone's favorite rodent of unusual size (or whatever his tag-line says these days) has really impressed me with his GUI work. His covenant GUI for Halo: FC blew my mind - but then he nuked the rest of me when he unleashed the proposed version for the Forerunner GUI. So simple, but so awesome that it made my eyeballs bleed and soft, beautiful music from a movie play gently from my speakers, even though THEY WERE ON MUTE!. That, gentleman is how awesome it was. and that is why this denizen of Eugene, Oregon is included in my list.

Gosh - listen to me gushing like a little school girl that just met Justin Timberlake or something... Seriously, I could go on, I really could - like Halley Berry at the Oscars... But I wont - Although I will give honorable mentions to these fine, fine people;

The Undying Nephalim - Sigma Rocks!
Major A Payne - The guy who set me on the path to modding
Syf - Modeler Extraordinaire
Dan - The vulcans, oh, the Vulcans (also awesome H:FC mod team member)
Fireball - The man has a thing for TOS - dinosaurJR approves

Seriously, Im sorry if I have missed anyone out - but there are so many amazing modders still in the community that it really is impossible to remember them all...

I almost forgot about this thread. I would like to nominate Dan1025 for his high quality models and, most especially, his Cardassian full race mod. I would also Like to nominate dinosaurJR for his beautiful fighter planes and his model work for H:FC.

You don't have too, but it's nice to read your reason why you choose them. :)

OK :)

Jetfreak: I remember when this guy started to mod Armada II and since then he becomes better and better with his evey single masterpiece. He advanced the creation of PotDs to a brand new level. He has incredible creativity, and a very annoying ability. When you think you made your ship to look the best possible, he definitely can improve your textures and make the ships more glorious - and your previous textures to look like drawn by a 6 years old :D

Fireball: He has a vision and creativitiy to make that vision real. He has more ides for starships/stations than most of us altogether. Every time when he models a new ship or station, you can be ready to see something extraordinary. And when he starts to texture them, you'll start to think if he's working for Paramount Pictures. His textures are the most detailed ones you've ever seen and they're full with creativity.

Thunderfoot: He is the one who expanded the limits of Armada II. I only have enumerate some of his works: Slightly Better Strings, A2 Physics Project, Improved SP Campaigns. They're talking for themselves. Thanks to his works we know more about Armada II than before. He showed us things with the game we never dreamed about before. And he makes awesome screenies.

Mayor A. Payne: He's a real icon of Armada II modding. He is always helpful, not only in general with his tutorials, but also with helping the newbies. He's also a real pioneer of our community. He gave us many things we didn't have before, like the Valdore, the Premonition, the Excalibur, the Challenger etc. And we can't forget his Borg Incursion mods, which are among the best mods ever made for Armada II. And they are 9 years old!

They are the greatest - for me - but there are many others who would deserve their article as well.

Oh lol, this one isn't easy for me. Let's see...

Achilles for being a huge inspiration, creating a whole awesome new race with kick-a** designs and everything. Also, allowing others to use his stuff ('stuff' being A WHOLE FREAKING TC MOD!).

Jetfreak for being an amazing artist, and always willing to share his tricks and treats. Thanks, man!

Majestic for bringing us here, creating a never ending stream of awesome stuff and always being there.

Chiletrek for... Species 8472. With his 8472 project, he went where no modder went before.

Thunderfoot for all the things he has done over the years... physproj, improved singleplayer campaign, all of his amazing ODF work and of course all the textures he akira'd over the years. Also, teaching me quite a few things bout how to improve a texture.

Of course, I have left a few out here, who would deserve to be named here as well. Let's just leave it there. Without all of you I would have lost my sanity a long time ago.

People, I am very flattered to be included in such august company, but my work does not compare. It is a little embarrassing to read here what Y'All think of my work because my view of what I've done is so greatly at variance with Y'All's. Really. I just get really lucky sometimes. Not false modesty talking here, either. Here's my list, in no particular order.

elevatormusic - for showing us what can be accomplished when one sets out to willfully ignore limitations.

Freyr - for the A2 Upgrade Project. Amazing work and it does not break online play. Now this, this is a mod.

Jetfreak - How lucky are we when he shares what he does with us?

Chiletrek - for doing the things no one else even considers. I mean how many other Ferengi Scavengers has anyone else done? And once you've seen Chile's ingame, why would you want anyone else's?

Dan1025 - For fighters, Cardassians, and Vulcans which work as advertised. His screenshots ain't too shabby neither.

kjc733 - for making everything everyone thinks is my work actually work as advertised, lol.

Majestic - For showing us 'low poly' does not mean 'low quality'.

Achilles - for Art of War. If you've never played it, shame on you! Metathrans FTW!

TUN - For Sigma. Why hasn't some game company hired him already?

Yacuzza - Midnight Universe has been an essential part of my personal install for seems like forever now.

K_merse - for doing my very most favorite Starfleet ship. I cannot imagine using anyone else's Akira.

Aad Moerman - Without whom my Klingons would still be, "meh".

Avon - Caretaker ship pack and Hirogen 1.0 mods . 'Nuff Said!

I'm sure I left out more than a few who are more than worthy of being included. And I really wish I could remember their names.
