Small note:

I was hoping to get the Ancient Cruiser and the ISD done this weekend, but I've had a lot of stuff fall on my plate this past week and I doubt I'll find the time.

Should have some free time next week though, worst case scenario will be the week after - they will most definitely be done by then

Just going to resurrect this thread rather than create a new one. As the original title suggests, this shall be the home and showcase for all of my models. Some people will probably notice that I disappeared shortly after my incredibly dramatic reappearance. Long story short a few friends of mine had booked a holiday, one of them had to drop out, and I was offered his place. I've spent the fortnight or so in the south of France.

Before that, however, I had started playing about in Max again. So - without further ado - let me show some of the things I've been working on:

Tennyson Class.png
The Tennyson Class, the first ship I made after the Sacagewea. Instantly visible is the nacelles. They're horrid, aren't they? The bottom of the ship is rather plain as well. The role I had in mind for her is a kind of light survey vessel/explorer. When you don't need the power projection of a big ship, you have the Tennyson instead.

Calypso Class.png
The Calypso Class. She started off as a kind of Post-Nemesis Oberth class, and sort of evolved from there. I really like this one, but am rather concerned that I made the bussard collector's a little too big. I've handwaved it by saying that her small size means she can't store as much fuel as larger ships. Texture is one of my favourites as well, though that nav dome at the bottom looks a little too dark at this angle.

da Vinci Class.png
More than a little of this design is, I'll admit, inspired by the Maelstrom from STO. It's not an exact copy, but the similarity is quite clear. I named it the da Vinci Class about twenty seconds ago, so that name is subject to change. The odd shapes on the nacelles are armour plating. You see, this is a warship - intended as a kind of replacement for the Akira Class but without so expansive a shuttlebay. The nacelle's are long and thin to create a similarly shaped warp bubble, reducing the chance of detection whilst travelling, but with that shape comes an inherent weakness. The armour won't stop a torpedo, without shields, but they will help to shield the coils from any radiation or energy that leaks through the shields.

CalypsoMSD.jpg
Now this is something new for me, and I messed up as soon as I started. I had every intention of continuing with this, was quite enjoying myself actually, but I made the thing too small. I wondered why all of those online MSDs were 8,000 pixels and over. Now I know, it was so they could actually fit some detail in. Still, an excellent learning experience. You may note that some of the little bits and bobs are oddly coloured when compared to others. I had started rendering certain objects in Max and then popping them in, which worked well for me but meant they didn't look right. One quick download of Inkscape later, and I started drawing the things instead. Much easier, and I think I'm starting to get the hang of those vector things.

I'm gonna love the last one... I could imagine her as a Galaxy replacement as well, just before the Monarch Class (you know, that presumed to be Ent-J)

Thanks everyone. Unless any ideas strike me, my next task will be to get the da Vinci unwrapped and textured; hopefully by the end of the week.

Do you know, I never noticed that - but looking at the monarch now I can definitely see the resemblance.

I hope you send them in for upload at some point.

As soon as they're game ready I most certainly will. Hardpointing and such will probably come after I finish off the da Vinci.

...always start hi-res as they say.

Don't I know it!

Hello:
They look really good, the MSD of the Calypso was a surprise, not only because we don't see MSDs often, but also because the ship is bigger than it appears in the pic of your model, hehehe.

The Tennyson is a cute ship and I can imagine it together with Nova classes cataloguing cool astronomical stuff.

The Maelstrom I could not see clearly as the pic was darky, but I can see that Starfleet is slowly making designs towards the Enterprise-J.

Keep it up!.

Thanks Chile :).

Yeah, The size surprised me as well, and I'm not sure if I made it a little too big. When I (eventually) redo the MSD I'll probably work out the sizing first and make sure it's all to scale.

I just checked the Maelstrom/da Vinci - the picture is a little dark, isn't it? I was fiddling around with render settings when I did it and didn't load up my usual preset. Problem solved - there's a much larger and brighter pic here:
da Vinci Big.png

And for anyone interested, a quick shot of my workflow when unwrapping:
da Vinci Workflow.png

As you can see, she's all ready for texturing. I may make a start on her later, we'll see.

Sidetracked .

A friend of mine found an old copy of Star Trek: Shattered Universe in his loft, and kindly let me pilfer it this morning. It was very badly scratched, hit and miss whether it would load up past the main screen, and just about unplayable. It did, however, result in this:

Fed Fighter.png

About three hours all in all, heavily inspired by the fighter on the box art but with a lot of original touches and guesswork. The texture is colour matched with Jet's retextures/touch-ups of P81s Constitution, so it shouldn't look out of place in any install when I eventually get around to release.

Hello:
I am with Thunderfoot on this one: gimme gimme!!!!
That Fihter looks very nice! I like the texturing and it doesn't look any high in polygons, which is amazing:excited:.

I also like the Malstrom class, the pic is indeed much better now, hehehe. And I was right to my previous thinking on how Starfleet is slowly going to Enterprise-J style of ships :D .

Keep it up!.

Ahh, I remember Shattered Universe. I'm somewhat embarrassed to say I got stuck with it - perhaps I should dig it out and give it another go. Nice to see a new fighter though. Good work

Thanks everyone :). Again, this will be released as soon as I get around to hardpointing and suchlike. One solid afternoon should be enough, it's just finding one .

No need to be embarassed, the game was practically built around fake difficulty. Endless waves of enemies, often flying faster and carrying more weaponry, that seem interested only in the player until they try to complete an objective, when they decide to attack the Excelsior.

Storyline wise, I love it - it gave a glimpse into the mirror universe (and fighter craft. Who doesn't like fighter craft?) - but in terms of gameplay it needs some serious attention.

Anyway, I digress. Progress on the Maelstrom (Dark Render to show Alpha Map):

Maelstrom.png

All that's left is the rest of the escape pods, the windows, and a few bits of signage. I may get those done today, but I hate doing windows so may take a little break first.

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the newly finished and completely textured...

Tempest Class

Whilst I love the name 'Maelstrom', it doesn't seem suited to a Starfleet vessel. Just a but too confrontational. Plus that name is used by STO, and whilst this ship is close it is by no means an exact copy.

You're not here for that though. You're here for the pic, aren't you ;).

Here she is, in all her glory:

The Calypso is ready for download! In related news, I've gone from 16 uploads to 22 in about three days. I'm getting close to your 42 uploads, Terra!

EDIT: Amateur ninja'd me and stole my thunder. :(
