I was wondering if anyone else has been playing minecraft and if so what have you been building?

This is my current house and the tomb I'm building next to it (reading way to much h.p. lovecraft)

Isn't there one guy who has a Galaxy Class Starship 1:1 scale on one of the public servers?

Ah, let me guess! The nightmare necropolis of R'lyeh? Irem, the City of Pillars? Pnakotus, the Elder Library of the Great Race of Yith? Or the onyx Castle atop Kadath? Aah... the horror... :p

Mythos references aside, I've heard a lot of it. I think there's still a free version of an older build available. Is it worth playing?

Right now it's just an unnamed tomb leading down into the depth of the earth to nightmares unimagined.

The price has gone up since alpha but it is still dirt cheap and if you find a decent server to play on and like legos for big kids then I'm sure you would enjoy it.

That's really awesome! The inside kind of reminds me of old-school FPSs; Golden Eye, Perfect Dark, Duke Nukem 3D, Marathon... Good times, good times.:)

Maybe if I get time later I'll make a video walk through. All the rooms in the place are built but I still have to go and decorate.

I figured that there would probably be a topic about Minecraft on this site somewhere, so I popped up a search and beyond! There is a thread about it...and this would be that thread!

I've been playing this game since just before Minecraft 1.5 Beta was released. I definitely loved the 1.8 update. I have been playing the 1.9 prereleases as they have been coming out, but I usually play online, on my own server, and I like to use the Bukkit server as opposed to using the vanilla server. Bukkit gives me access to a lot of plugins that just add a lot to a creative server, but they aren't able to make new releases for 1.9 yet, so when I'm on my own server, I just run 1.8. The server's like a hybrid: half creative, the other half survival, but mostly it's just a giant city that hasn't been completed yet.

I loved the 1.8 update as it did come with new blocks such as glass panes and iron bars, which believe it or not, added a lot to previous builds I did. Making mushroom houses also adds a lot of enjoyment to the game. You basically get a red or brown mushroom, plant it, put bonemeal on it, and then it instantly grows into a giant mushroom. If you plant it in the right way, all you have to do is put a door in it and whoom!, mushroom house!

I'll probably have quite a few screens to share, but for now I have a little teaser: an image of the Palace I took a few days ago.

Texture pack is a combination of Steampunk, Mixcraft HD, and some of my own edits.

Love minecraft, I play on single player with a massively modded setup that a friend actually put together in 1.8.1
It has Redpower Logic2, Industrial Craft2, Equivalent Exchange, ToManyItems, a fly mod, a mini map mod, basalt volcanoes and enormous white marble deposits, and probably more that I've yet to see.
As he updates it with new mod builds he gives em to me as well cause he's pretty good at making em work together, he's really into the redstone stuff, making complex circuits and such.
I haven't even had to enter the nether to get Glow Stone blocks, nor have I been using the TMI, cause the EE mod allows for the generation of GS through the use of both transmutation and a machine called a "Glow Stone Aggregator" which I've made 16 of, they are self refueling* and they have an exponentially increasing return rate, its pretty cool.
*Meaning, they create 1 glowstone block from 1 glowstone dust,(approx every 1 1/2 min), and with transmutation, 1 GS block = 4 dust every time, so you make profit, and you can start with 1 and build up to 2, and so on, and since the returns are exponential in this system, the more of em you build, the faster you can have more.
I generally build spiral staircases down into the ground and live about in the mid point of them, and I've got some strange thing going on where every time I do this, I almost always just miss running into lava, even to bedrock. I have an underground farm and a pipe system with a pump,(thanks to buildcraft), that runs down into a lava field, so that I don't fall in when trying to get lava for some of my transmutations and such. I'd show pics, but I've got none ATM, so I'll be back in a bit to edit some into here. :p

There are some explanatory descriptions on the pics, if you look closer. Tell me what ya think.

Oh yes, I love Equivalent Exchange with Build Craft and Industrial Craft. I got hooked on those mods after watching some videos of HypnotoadProductions on Youtube (his "Industrial Revolution" series). I'd sort of like to open a secondary server purely for the use of client mods such as those, but I'd keep the vanilla Minecraft world as a spare in case any of the mods we used stopped being developed as Minecraft evolves.

I started making some test videos on Youtube to give a little tour of my server's city. I haven't started doing any commentary yet, as I got to get my microphone working right before I do much more than the bare minimum. Colon 3.

Here's the first video that I made where I essentially fly around in Creative Mode just to make the video as short as I possibly could. Converting a nearly 12 minute long video at HD resolution takes a little over 30 minutes, and uploading it took a bit over two hours. But it was fun! I can't wait to get more videos up just to try out some commentary (when I get my mic settings working)!

As I stated on YT, really beautiful city Elrond, and that first piston door, I liked how it slid and pulled open in like 5 directions.

Aye, the piston doors are pretty cool. There are some other piston doors on the map too, none of them which I made. Someone else who gets on the server does most of the redstone related stuff, but I'm learning. I love the double lever system that works with most of these doors in the city, there's a demo in the city of the double lever system that I'll show in a screenshot here:

The 1.8 texture pack terrain.png looks like this:

The palace is about 1/20th of the complete tour. Was going to put in commentary, but I saved that for a video that I'm currently working on. I had to fix some microphone problems such as static in the background, fixed that, then found that the volume of the microphone was too low when it kept trying to rain in Minecraft while I was recording ^^

Should I start a new minecraft thread since this one hasn't been posted to in over a year or is this fine?

There is no need to post a new thread all you need to do is post in the existing thread to revive it

Ok, wasn't certain what the policies were here regarding that.

So, has anyone else here tried to mod Minecraft?

*Blows fresh layer of dust and coughs*

So, anyone here still play this? I have been messing with the demo version and am seriously considering purchasing the full game. I have been having thoughts of creating Star Trek themed worlds. I think it would be fun to team up with some Star Trek junkies to accomplish this.

So, I have bought the full game. If I get around to building anything worthwhile, I will post screenshots.

I started this map just to do some practicing with redstone. Even named the map "Redstone" so I knew what was going on with it. Then I just got building and haven't stop.

I am no where near as talented as you in the art of building things in Minecraft. You are awesome!

Thanks for the compliment. It is mostly trial and error to find what you like. I don't know how many times I made changes here and there. I also have been watching other people build to kinda get some ideas and put my own spin on it.
