• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

Hello everyone,

I have decided that it was time that I make this announcement publicly rather than mentioning it on the side to a few members that I have recently talked to about other topics in PM. I am creating this thread here as it affects probably the Armada 2 community in a negative way. This decision has been one of mixed feelings but I think a move in a positive direction.

So I am hereby announcing that AGC and YY will be my last endeavours in Armada II, after which I will be moving on, leaving Armada II, Fleet Ops and modding behind. It is my plan that by Christmas 2015/early 2016 I will be officially retiring from A2 and that is the deadline I have given myself for these two mods. However from time to time I may be able to help out others with the occasional model or two, we'll see how it all goes I guess.

This has been a long road for me and I have in the past retired but eventually returned to A2/FO as the bug always managed to bite and draw me back in. However this time It won't be the same. I have been in the community since 2001, well 2000 but I disappeared for about a year which was around the same time if memory serves that AFC had a crash and lost it's database and had to start again. So from 2001 to 2014 that is a total of 13 years in the Armada community coming this September. Not many others have exceeded that limit, Major Payne, Achillies and maybe one or two others. Still it is time to move on for me.

So what will I be doing with myself after the start of 2016?

Well I have taken it upon myself after encouragement boarding on a swift shove by Katala to take up a Diploma of Digital and Interactive Games, yes that's right time to start making my own games. Weather I get employed by a company or strike it out on my own is still up in the air. I do however have a few original ideas that haven't to my knowledge been done before so I am hoping to start up my own game company, solo at first. But starting Monday I will be starting my diploma and by mid January 2016 I will be a qualified games designer. To say I am excited to undertake this course is a bit of an understatement, also a lot of nerves. It's 18 month course though I believe I can complete it in around 12 months depending on my schedule.

This course will teach me a variety of skills including making me a much better modeler and texture creator. It will teach me to animate, level design, using game engines, programming languages and a hoard of other skills. I will be qualified after the completion of this course to be a:
  • 2D/3D Artist
  • Animator
  • Games designer/developer
  • Interactive digital media developer
  • Mobile games designer/developer
During the time of this course it's my intention to not only complete it but finish off my work in A2, maybe even employ a few of the new techniques while I am at it. Don't worry I am still determined to complete what I have started, TCW however is highly unlikely to get completed. But I will release what I have done for everyone here to enjoy to if anyone wants to finish it off they are most welcome to.

Tis sad news, but you got to move on as you are prompted. You're going to learn a lot of awesome stuff in the path toward that diploma man, and you've got a community here that will be encouraging you every step of the way.

I agree with Zelph. It's sad that you won't be modding Armada anymore, but the potential for what you may make is great and we will support you. Good luck with your studies.

Thank you both. Indeed if all goes well MSFC might also boost from this if I play my cards right and that isn't a bad thing at all. :D

Hello:
Well, life is surely filled with changes and challenges for all of us.

It will be bad for the community to not have you modding anymore, although I do hope this page will remain as a hub for modders as it has been. If not, then give us time to regroup, hehehe.

I wish you success in all of your new endeavours :) .

MSFC will remain, no doubt there mate. It's just I won't be modding much after that. Maybe the odd ship just for fun but projects won't be happening anymore.

Thanks for everything you have put into this game and continue to put into it, Maj. A well-earned retirement.

Yeah, I think we all have to make this decision at some point. If not due to motivation, then simply due to the age of the game(s). Nice to hear you're moving into professional game design - if you ever need a consulting kitteh, I am here! :p

As for MSFC, I really hope you can fulfill that promise. It's probably the most fun place on the internet I've been a member of for the last years, and I made a lot of good friends here. Would be a shame to lose it.

Thanks for everything you have put into this game and continue to put into it, Maj. A well-earned retirement.
Amen to that. You've been one of the most prolific and high-quality modders the community and game have seen. We're all grateful for your work and time.
