One of my many projects is my Midway Modelling Project, and the latest WIP is the Legacy Class, USS Legacy. One second biggest main ship in the fan fiction after the Midway herself, the Legacy is the ship of Captain Maxwell Syf, good friend of Captain John th'Majest.

I have only roughly started on her getting a basic saucer in place. She is designed as the exploration successor to the now militarized Galaxy Class and as such shares many familiar aspects in her design with the older class. She is also the big sister to the Dawnstar.

I added a basic temporary texture to help show you what the saucer looks like. :)

Ah, I can already see the design influences mate, I presume she'll be more detailed than the other meshes? A flagship deserves all the glory after all. ;) Either way, she looks promising.

Oh and a little tip with registries, I use the following typefaces:
"FederationBold" for the USS XXXXXXX
"Jeffries" for NCC-XXXXX

I've attached them for ya'

Thanks Jet, I have Federation Bold as well but found it can sometimes blur at resolutions of 512x512. The texture on the images above including the text is just temporary. I plan to re-do it all after I get the model completely textured.

Nice start Majestic, like Jet says you can already spot the design influences.

Looking forward to seeing this progress :)

I am here to serve. :)

I have modelled in the neck, which will probably get some adjustments as I build the engineering hull and pylons which is the last structural parts I need to do then I will go into adding details like the bridge, impulse engines, adjusting the warp nacelles slightly etc.

She'll probably turn out a little higher in the poly count than I wanted as she is already at 1980 poly's. However in the Midway Universe, due to the majority of Starfleet focusing on rebuilding the fleet and turning it's primary aim from exploration to defence the Legacy class only had a small run of 6-12 vessels and a good portion of them were destroyed in the war with the Breen.

Thanks, I think the secondary hull will be the deciding factor of whether I go back and re-model her or not. Being a main ship in the series I want to get her as close to right as I can right off the bat. :)

Agreed, she is coming along nicely Maj, and I don't see polys being an issue here. A flagship design certainly deserves all the "curves" she needs.

I have some questions about the design though:

- How pronounced will the neck be? Are you going to try what MKF has recently done to the Onimaru? Will it be short and sleek?

- The Deflector design? Based on the Sovereign (Yellow) or Galaxy (Blue/Red Combo)?

- Lastly, any plans for a captain's yacht?

Lookin' pretty good. If it's paying homage to the Galaxy-Class then I'm sure I'll like the finished result. :)

The plan is to try and keep her as close to the overall design of the Galaxy while trying to update it too look more modern.

The deflector will actually be more like the Intrepid class actually. I rather like that design, as evident in the recent Incursion class deflectors. I'll be focusing on keeping the model down, as first and more most I build the models for gaming, to play with them have them having big fleets in the game. So poly counts are a big thing for me and I make sure to keep them as low as possible. It's who I am.

I won't be including a Captain's Yacht as I feel they have become obsolete due to the fact (at least in the Midway Universe) most sizeable starships now carry a runabout or two maybe more depending on their size. As for the neck I am going to wait and see how it looks when I finish up the secondary hull.

I am currently working on several projects at once as in the past few days I have notice I have been unable to keep my attention and motivation on the one model at a time. So along with this and the Seraphim I have the Linerunner, a full race mod and a second semi-big project that I am just looking into doing once I get a good portion of the full race and YY completed. :)

So yeah a lot on at the moment.

Hello:
Well, I still like the idea of ships having a Captain's Yacht, but maybe a more useful design, like the one in the Sovereign class or maybe the ship that comes in the Intrepid or Nova Classes (Aeroshuttle and Waverider). It might not be modelled as it would just add unused polies, but maybe still drawn in the texture. And since the Yacht does have a separate docking port, then you will still have plenty of room for other ships in the shuttlebays:).

I look forward to see more of the ship, specially the deflector, it should be interesting to see how it will look.

@Jetfreak: Thanks for the fonts! even though I have never made any Federation ship before, I am sure this will be very very useful for every modder:excited:.

I like it so far. I can see elements of the Sovereign, Galaxy, and I believe Dawnstar in the design. I can't wait to see more!

Thanks guys, I have put her on hold as I have been taking a break from modelling especially Star Trek modelling. I think I burned myself out a little and taking a break to recharge the batteries so to speak. :)

I am glad you like it, my aim is to bland all the styles/ships you mentioned Cabal into one. ;)
