• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

I liked the new film. JJAbrams did a very fine job trying to recapture the spirit of TOS. He's right. New fans and new ideas and new perceptions do need to be brought in. This is the point where the howls from the hardcore FanBoys try to drown out my voice. Something should be done to bring Star Trek into the 21st Century. And doesn't that seem odd to say?

I do have nothing against the overall concept of STXI. (Of course, I am used to prime-tech, so JJPrises apple store - eh, bridge - didn't quite appeal to me in the beginning.) The biggest fault of the new Trek is that the makers tried to link it to the Prime Universe, and the whole plot revolves around it. Now, there is always an inherent dependency on the old trek - "if it was like this in prime, it will be like that in the JJVerse". I would have liked to see what they did with BSG - a complete reboot, with no links to the old 'verse.
Second, I'd like to see intelligent and modern speculative SciFi, just like the old Trek did. I don't want to see the same space-clouds, sentient amoeba and superior aliens we saw back then, but the development of science during the last decades opens up new viewpoints and the possibilities for up-to-date SciFi.

then their planets are destroyed (yes, I include Remus, doesn't make sense to think that only one of the two was destroyed)
The exact relation between the planets is never firmly established. They could be a binary planetary system (two planets that basically orbit around each other) or less closely linked, much like Earth and Mars could be considered sister planets due to their relative closeness and similarities in size. Although, the following picture of the Romulan star system from Nemesis seems to imply the sister planet thing.
picture.php
If they aren't binary, then Remus could have been on the other side of the star when the supernova hit. And Spock did say he managed to prevent damage further than the destruction of Romulus. On the other hand, the only planet ever mentioned as being in danger was Romulus despite the fact that a supernova would endanger every nearby star system and likely would have taken a sizable bite out of the Star Empire.

I personally think we aren't given enough data to make an assumption either way.

If i remember the whole stuff correctly, we didn't even learn which star went nova. So it might not even be the Romulus sun (what was its name?). The whole thing was kind of meh, they said that it "threatened the galaxy" - but not even a supernova could do THAT much damage. Sounds like deus ex machina to me.

I have to say bite your toung bo. That ultamatly is what killed the new BSG and messed it up for me. The conection to the old is needed as kind of a foundation. That imparts a responsibility to live up to the past and not just be a profit monger using the name.

Now I agree 110% here.

And Spock did say he managed to prevent damage further than the destruction of Romulus.

No he didn't he deploied the device and was immediatly attacked. He had no time to evaluate his results. Besides from a atrological point of veiw the destruction of such an important star would have massive negative long term effects.

I can't see why they can't have the new Trek, starting with the movie from 2009 as well as continuing on with what we have known for years. Both running side by side but not related at all.

I personally would love to see Voyager continue, much like the re-launch books. I think TNG was concluded very well, and DS9 was as well. Plus DS9 was too much a rip of of Babylon 5 in my opinion, a very shallow series. No offence to anyone that thinks otherwise, I know many really like DS9. I just feel they could've done so much better with that series than they did with their competition with B5 for ratings. Come on they had no hope against B5, B5 is a masterpiece and even today with outdated graphics is a great series.

But yes I would really like to see some Voyager movies, continue on like what the novel Unworthy and the new upcoming novel Children of the Storm are doing.

But this is all coming from a fan, so feel free to ignore the post if you don't like what I said, I have no intentions to offend anyone.

Sorry, I should clarify myself. It was around B5's 3rd season that DS9 started to copy ideas.

But anyway that's not what this topic is about. :)

Only after JMS went to the producers of Trek, and pitched the idea of Babylon 5, a series set on a station full of aliens.
They said "no chance, not interested"
JMS then went and got his show made elsewhere, only to find competition from a new Trek show set on a station full of aliens!

However, the Babylon 5 story was written TEN YEARS before. It also suffered numerous delays, WB thought it wasn't important, and Paramount tried to fight against it's production. Best example is the nine-month delay between the pilot and s01e01. Which otherwise would have put it eight months before DS9 anyway...

Exactly.

It is unfortunate how Paramount does its business, but it seems to work, for them. They are rich.

Anywho, I do like the idea of following on from Romulus' destruction. Maybe a film (or series?) about exploring the former Romulan space. Tal Shiar booby traps everywhere, black projects, fighting against the Klingons, Cardassians, and race from the other side of Romulan space (Chodak?) to claim their technology...
It's a bit un-Trekky, from what has been defined, but "Trekky" is open to definition, as it's made from what is shown.

^ THIS ooooooo this!!!!

You also got all that nice Iconian tech floating around in the neutral zone (the TNG ep where the USS Yamato explodes) only, the Neutral zone is not so neutral any more since the Empire lost its capital... Maybe following a small (mainstream TV pretty, multi racial and multi species) salvage and scavenging operation (not doing anything TOO illegal - living on the margin, doing what needs to be done to keep flying on, not focusing on the Feds for once - maybe an aversion to the close scrutiny of the law, maybe they can get Nathan Fillion...) Its Trek, Jim, But not as we know it... "...I dont care, Im still free, you cant take the sky from meeee"

Almost like Stargate, but the Romulans are the Ancients... and some of them are still around... idk... just ideas, ideas being birthed out into the interwebs at random...

The interesting thing about the last few ideas is how they do not have Sovvys flying about in them.

we did it was called Hobus

The Hobus System is located in the Iota Pavonis Sector Block, in Romulan Space.

Hobus is the name of a star that went supernova in 2387, threatening the rest of the galaxy. To stop the threat, Ambassador Spock used red matter to create a black hole that consumed the star's energy. Before he could successfully carry out his mission, however, the supernova traveled through subspace, reaching Romulus and destroying the Romulan homeworld and all of the billions of its inhabitants.

The basis for Hobus's galactic threat came from its uncanny ability to transform anything it contacted into energy, which it then consumed, increasing its power and causing it to expand farther and faster throughout the galaxy via Subspace similar to a soliton wave.

Talking about TNG, did anyone of you see the new VGCats comic? It focuses on Star Trek... and there is this really cute comic version of a certain French captain... :excited: I'd link it if it was allowed... Please, Maj?
