• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

Do you think if you use someone else work you should credit them in the description?

I was over on Moddb and saw someone post this:

"If you have thought it anytime, the complete credits will be on the mod and there is not any rule telling that nobody must add credits on one screenshot, video or other thing."

And thought it would make a good poll here. So what is everyone's thoughts on this?

I feel it's just common courtesy to add them to the description, image, image description etc.

If a persons work is good enough to use then it should be respected so I'm 100% on the side of credits.

The only time I see this becoming a question is when you do not know who is the original author, or where from a piece of work was originally obtained. However, even in this scenario, the best possible credits should be given. Sometimes you'll just end up writing "Background Pic 3 by unknown, obtained from unknown, on unknown date".

Personally I find collaborative work - be it working on a team, or basing your work on another's prior work - to be far more exciting than seeing someone come out and claim full credit for the creation of some new piece of magnificent artwork. It is not a sign of weakness to show respect to other community members.

lol I"m the only one that voted no. I say this because, though I will always do so for others, I don't think it should be forced, nor do I require it of my own work. Certainly not screen shots too. I am not going to put credits for STO, cryptic, and PWE every time I put up a screen shot of the game, and I don't expect anyone else does either.

There is a vast difference between a game company and a individual who is doing it in their own time, not being paid to do so etc. It's just common courtesy, good manners and shows respect to the original author by crediting them, whether they want to be credited or not.

As I said over at DeviantArt; Of course, always. :)

I do believe the original author should be credited as that is showing respect to said author. :)

Hello:
As I have also said on DA, I agree on crediting the author(s) of whatever is in a pic been made. I have also mentioned it is nice, fair and also, it gives a nice touch to the images like in SciFi-Meshes.

Maybe it would also be nice, whenever is possible, to tell he author about the pics been made. I don't know if that is too much, but it might work too  .
