• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

Hello, people! It's time for the Regular Poll!

Who doesn't dream of commanding your own Federation ship? Not necessarily the Enterprise, maybe one of the smaller, faster ships. Or maybe a pure research ship? It's your choice!

Did we miss something? Then tell us, please! There are lots of ship types out there...

That's it for now. See you next time, for the last Regular MSFC poll of this year. w00t!

Hello:
A large explorer, specifically, a Nebula Class starship. I always loved that ship since the first time I saw it, and I saw it as a modern ship like the Galaxy Class, but less imposing or maybe more humble, the more scientific sibling of the Galaxy Class.

Another alternative would be a Nova Class: small, agile, still having teeth, the Waverider. While it is very small, I can see that the crew can grow close to each other, kinda like what we saw with the USS Grissom in Star Trek III. I can also see a Nova class landing on cool worlds with people exploring almost onirical landscapes. They could also help with colonization efforts with their advanced sensor suites or maybe to be a part of an exploratory task force, with a Nebula class as flagship.

Both ships are just way too awesome.

A starship? I would command a Federation MACO Assault team :)

No, I voted for Hospital ship, of course. Though a small Nova class research ship is a tempting choice.
How about.... a quick medical reaction&research unit based on a Nova class starship. For space shipping accidents and fast planetary humanitarian aid, something alike the German SEG (Schnelleinsatzgruppe, Medical Quick Reaction Team).

Me too, I voted Carrier. :)

Would have never seen that one coming

Commodore John Majest

Name: John Majest
Rank: Commodore
Position: Commanding Officer of the USS Midway NX-87073 Carrier
Species: Andorian
Gender: Male
Age: 57
Birthplace: Andor
Father: Tlek Majest
Mother: Jhem Majest
Siblings: None
Wife: Lara Majest
Children: None
Ancestors: Commander Thy'lek Shran (Andorian), Jhamel (Aenar) and Talla (Andorian/Aenar Hybrid).
Weapon of Choice: Standard Issue Phaser and a Ushaan-tor

Quirks: Like his ancestors Shran and Talla, John Majest sometimes calls humans pink skins. The Captain is a straight forward guy who is slowly realising that Starfleet Command was right by putting him in command of the Midway. Has a sense of humour that many, even other Andorians find difficult to grasp at times.

Still an engineer at heart John is often found in Main Engineering helping out and sometimes annoying his Chief Engineer. Due to his Aenar heritage, John can sometimes sense the feelings of others and is also at times able to direct others telepathically, but this takes alot of concentration and effort and John rarely uses this ability.

Majest still carries his families Ushaan-tor (ice miner's tool), it has been handed down through this family long before his ancestor Commander Thy'lek Shran, used it in a Ushaan dual against Captain Jonathan Archer in 2154.

Research ship for me. I'd love to be pushing the boundaries of knowledge ever forward; and the (relatively) small size and crew complement would create an intimate feel and - hopefully - promote professional learned discourse.

Day in, day out exploring the mysteries of the cosmos; going boldly where none have gone before...sounds like the life :D

It's not on the list, but I'll say it anyway: A Tactical Explorer (see Sovereign). :)

I was more of a cruiser guy myself, so give me a Constitution for TOS/TMP and an Intrepid for TNG any day. Besides, I like a good balance of firepower and scientific capability, which both classes showcase well.

Well, I had to really think about this one. They're not likely to give you a choice in command assignments, unless you're truly awesome. And since I am, well.... I don't think I would really want the additional responsibilities that go with commanding anything bigger than a heavy cruiser, but at the same time, I wouldn't want to serve in anything small enough that my actions would be without distinction. I would be very comfortable serving on any ship with a crew willing to have a captain that demanded the best of them, in the finest tradition of the service.

Thus I fall back on that service's tradition-- all my heroes, whether it was Lord Nelson or Captain Kirk, distinguished themselves in ships of the line that were neither the lead ships nor the outlying support vessels. The Starfleet equivalent of a ship of the line would probably be a heavy cruiser or tactical explorer. That's what I'd want. That's where I'd want to be. Whether it's a Constitution or Akira class starship, I have always had a soft spot in my heart for the cruiser. It's where the action is, where the battles are fought, and where the glory and honour is won. I can think of few other places where I would be prouder and happier to serve.

I voted heavy cruiser. That way I don't have a huge ship where it's impossible to get to know the crew, but I also have enough fire power to discourage most raiders from attacking me and enough space to carry out science missions with some regularity.

I went for the light cruiser option - the light option - kinda like diet coke, just substitute coke with death (of cruiser...) A diet Cruiser... in a silver can with red writing...

Heavy enough to take a punch, but light enough to maneuver out of a tight spot. Big enough to explore and be (relatively) self sufficient, but small enough to ensure that you could sneak around undetected (if necessary...)

Depending on the era, something like a Daedalus Class from Pre TOS, an Asia Class from TOS, a Constitution Refit (Enterprise Type), Constellation or Centaur from TLE, or an Intrepid from TNG - post TNG...

Probably the constructor, provided that I have more than enough materials to make a starbase, a mining station, a research station, a shipyard, and yes, a cloning station.

The starbase, mining station, research station, and shipyard all have an obvious purpose. The cloning station is a little something I'd pull out of my sleeve at the last moment so that I could get enough people to crew all the ships that I'd build. And then I'd turret-farm, and I'd probably eventually go with temporal research - the purpose of this also being quite obvious, if we're talking Armada. The research station would also be used to make new weapons and other such things for my constructor. That way, I get a constructor that has enough to at least defend itself if, say, the helm officer is like Troi and gets us separated from our base that we constructed. And as I mine more materials (providing that this was successful enough), I'd research a phase cloak so that we could slip into Federation space, unnoticed, and pull off the Ultimate Heist! I don't know what my crew of clones and I would steal, but it could involve stealing several ships and maybe pulling the rug out from under the leadership of the race's home planet.

It's not a very peaceful idea or something that would conform to "Starfleet guidelines" (I'm pretty sure they wouldn't appreciate it at all), but it's an interesting one to construct a movie or single episode around. It's combining some of the ideas of a crime mystery with that of Star Trek. They've done that before with Data and Picard and the whole Sherlock Holmes idea, but an actual grand heist committed by Starfleet personnel might actually work. Come to think of it, Kirk pulled it off himself, although it was his own ship that he stole even if it was Starfleet property.
