• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

Hey, Y'all

Hello! My username is thunderfoot. Some of y'all know me from other A2 sites and some of y'all know me from some of the small, unimportant A2 mods I've done, Like the A2 Physics Project. I was registered at the old MSFC, but never activated the account, for reasons that are in the past and should stay there.
Majest told me awhile back he was revamping the place and I thought, "what the heck. He's one of the good guys (never enough of those are there?) and this is a bunch of good people. Whyever am I not associated with them?"

So here I am.

I am excited and pleased to be here. I am delighted to see so many I already know and I look forward to meeting those of you I do not.

Specifications:

Age: 47
Gender: male
Species: Human
Sub genus: Redneck
Location: Biloxi, Mississippi
Interests: My God, my family, my dog, my job, good science fiction of any sort in any format, my 'puters, and NASCAR!

During the time when Majest and Syf were remodeling this place, I gave Majest a whole bunch of Armada 2 mods I've done so he could host them here. If anyone has D/L'd any of these and is having problems or concerns with them, please PM me from here or simply holler. If I can help, I will.
I play a lot of A2. It is not the only game I play, however. I play quite a few others and if one you have is interesting enough, I'd like to hear about it.

Looking forward to meeting all of you as fast as possible and continuing this association for as long as possible. Thank you for letting me in.

Welcome to the site, thunderfoot.

By the way, Majest goes by the nick Majestic here. Otherwise on MSFC he only uses the nick Majest as his RPG characters. ;)

And this site has three administrators now. :)

Hi there Thunderfoot, Welcome to MSFC and hope you will be sticking around for a long time :D

We would enjoy any imput you have and as you can tell at the moment we are going through some rather radical changes right now, such as a new host, new domain name and we are also resorting the site into new sections as well for new features!

Glad to have you with us!

Thank you for the information. I appreciate it.

Thought I'd post a pic or four from Photobucket to see if I can. These are some pics from my personal Armada 2 install.

Thank all of you for the warm welcome. I really do appreciate it. A long time ago, Majestic and I were busily PMing and emailing back and forth about a little thing called(drum roll, please)...respect. As a sign of this respect for him and Syf, and all of you as well, I am going to release here on MSFC the A2 mods and all the other schtuff for a few other games I play. This may take a bit because the last time I looked, I have about 1.25 GB's worth of A2 mods alone. I see no good reason why people who prefer MSFC as their online A2 source should not have access to things I have done. Also, in the future anything else I do will be released publicly here as well as the other place.

Why am I doing this? Simple. Respect. There are people here who really enjoy playing/modding A2 who for reasons I will not go into do not go to the other place. They view people whom do go there or are from there with a certain amount of distrust. I think this is not good for the A2 Community nor for two online groups of any sort which have similar interests. Having my mods available both here and there and being an active, positive member of both groups is my way of attempting to reduce/remove this distrust.

I may get slapped down by both Majestic and Starfleet Kid, but hey, I'm 47 years old. Unlike most of you, I've been around since before the InterWebs. I learned how to function as a serious, committed Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica fan before it existed. I can learn how to do so once again. Back when I was your age, all we had were sticks and a rock. And we all had to share the rock. :D

 Nah I am not the slapping kind. In all seriousness I am all for a united community unfortunately there are those out there against such a thing and cause too many problems, this is why I try to keep to my own devices and release my stuff only here. That it it seems to be one of the only reasons people come here, for the downloads and unique content we have.

Depending on how the other communities evolve and change that physiology can change. Its all a matter of time and interaction with the leaders of those communities and hopefully one day this place will be recognised as an equal partner along with AFC and A2Files, many do already see it as such but many unfortunately don't. Thankfully theStarfleetkid, Admin of A2Files comes here often as I do at A2Files and we try and stay in touch as often as possible. :)

Anyway it's good to finally have you here Thunderfoot and hopefully this is one of the first steps in community integration.

Thought I'd post a list of what A2 mods I gave Majestic to upload here at MSFC. This list may not be all inclusive. I intend to send in only the latest versions of things like the A2 Physics Project. Here's the list

New! - thunderfoot's A2 Map Pack, Vol 1. The latest version of the maps I've done for A2 recently.

New! - BSG Colonial Fleet Weapons. Multi shot, multi targeting pulse weapons. To recreate those 'bullet showers' you like to see so much.

A2PP X - Latest version of the A2 Physics Project, my 'simple ODF mod'. :lol2: Includes the latest version of the A2 Weapons Project.

Hawk v1.1 - My very favorite SFC3 Rommie ship. Wireframe fix included.

Improved Single Player Campaign - We are KLINGONS! Part 2 of the re write of the A2 SP Campaign. The Fed Campaign is already here. I've been revisiting this one a lot lately. The entire thing may get a make over in the near future.

Slightly Better Asteroid Fields - Another 'simple ODF mod' to make the Stock asteroid fields look better.

Slightly Better Death Chant - If you like Klingons (and who does not?) then this one will inspire you onward to victory!

Slightly Better Starfields - The Stock starfields are not 'starry enough' for me. So I adjusted them.

thunderfoot's Klingon Disruptors - At last! Real weapons! For real warriors!

TOS Adversary Pack - FahreS made the perfect TOS Connie, but she had no one to shoot at. Now she does!

BSG Add On Pack - For you Galactica fans. Build buttons, wireframes and physics files to use with your Rag Tag Fleet.

Total is about 42MB + of mods. Oh my! Didn't realize I'd done that much! I may be obsessing a little here. Guess I need to ask Majestic if there is room enough first.

One more thing. Anyone working an A2 project here at MSFC hereby will have my permission to use anything out of any of these which is something I did without seeking my permission first, as long as credit is given in the ReadMe for your project. Some other people did contribute significantly to some of these. I cannot remember who or when but the details will be in the ReadMes of these mods. To use things they did and released to me, you'll need to contact them. I see no point in making a mod which I do not allow others to use when it will save them some time and effort on their own projects. I also see no need for people to try and contact me for permission to use one file out of one mod. I do appreciate the good manners and thank you for them, but in my case it is not necessary. I'm just plain old thunderfoot, not somebody special. If people still have a question about a permission allowance from me, just place a link to this post in your readme or send them here, please. Thanks in advance for the help.

More than enough space when one has unlimited server space and bandwidth now.

Your only 7 years older than me.

About time I get not to be the old man here heehee.

"Watch yer mouth kid, or you'll find yerself floating back home.":p
Yer, I'm old. Means I got to do some things most of you 'round here cannot. Like watch Neil Armstrong walk on the moon live on July 20, 1969 (I was seven).
I also got to watch first run episodes of Star Trek: TOS on NBC. So, "Nyah Nyah".

Don't mind at all being that 'really OLD guy' on the boards. This is a role I've grown quite comfortable with. A little leery of being that 'really old CREEPY guy', though.

Fighter Jock? No kiddin'? Well, this old US Cavalry sergeant(First Team, SIR!) thanks you for your service. I got to go play in the First Gulf War and then got a lovely eleven month vacation in Bosnia and Kosovo. yeehaw. Kept the Tee shirt and the shrapnel wounds to prove it. I was an M1A1 Abrams Master Gunner when I was in the US Army. That makes us cousins from a certain point of view.

Terrifying, isn't it?

Since you are an expert on all that 'wild blue yonder' stuff, I wonder if I might pick your brain upon occasion? Any help at all would be much appreciated. I want to see if I can get the physics files I did for BSG Vipers and Cylon Raiders a little closer to what they should be. Over on the other A2 site, I caused a bit of a ruckus by trying to place light attack craft(Wound up callin' 'em fighters anyway. To stop everyone from going, 'Whut?') into Armada 2. I wanted the various factions to have a carrier of sorts along with fighters and fighter bombers as skirmishers, escorts, rear area security patrols, point defense, etc. I'd be very interested in hearing what a subject matter expert has to say critiquing my modest attempts. Most of the regular Star Trek and other science fiction space combat sequences are kinda based on the way the old sailing ships moved and fought. The A2 Physics Project does a pretty respectable job of recreating this. But the fighters just do not look quite right. And this spoils the effect of watching Starbuck take a flight of nuggets out on CAP around the Bucket in game.

Let me just run out back and fire up the Dire Wolf Khan Phelan Kell gave me for services rendered to the Wolves in Exile and the Kell Hounds. Since we're fighting the blood sucker mecha watchamacallit doo dah thingie people, I want to bring my 100 ton good luck charm, 'kay? Used to be a huge MechWarrior IV nerd. My favorite ride was a Highlander with a Heavy Gauss Rifle. Even after all this time, I never, ever get tired of watching a Summoner get knocked off its feet with pieces flying everywhere when my round hits it center of mass.
