You may want to ask Mete Ciragan (the creator) over at the Milkshape Forums. He's been very helpful with others looking for old versions so their plugins and tools work again.

If you have the installers (the zips or exes), then I'd love to have them.

The older versions are hard to find copies of.

You can get 1.5.10 at A2files here... (Assuming of course that isn't the 1.5.1 on your list...)

Sadly I only have 1.8.2 right now, though I'd love some of the older ones as well...

You may want to ask Mete Ciragan (the creator) over at the Milkshape Forums. He's been very helpful with others looking for old versions so their plugins and tools work again.

Older versions are not supported anymore and many of them have critical bugs or simply crash with new graphics drivers. That's why old versions cannot be downloaded here. But I'm sure you can find some older versions on various download sites.

- Mete

Here's tha answer to that...

Note: This is the reply that Mete gives to all that ask for older versions based on scanning the forum there.

Well, I got 1.6.5 from Mete, but I suppose it depends on your definition of "old". IMHO 1.6.5 is probably the best for Armada modding, since the Assimsoft Tools work fine (unlike later versions when the model has to be a single group or they fall over)

Oh, small edit, I remember reading about a big legal issue versions of MS3d prior to 1.6.5 had with attempted anti-cracking measures. Basically it stopped any registry editing programs from running at the same time as Ms3d and vice versa. Not a problem in itself, except there was no EULA so technically the program makers had no right to do that. Its since been removed in 1.6.5 and after, probably because they realised how easily pirated it is anyway. Who needs a registry editor when there are serials floating about all over the place? (Not that i've used them myself, bought my Ms3d back two or three years ago, infact I believe 1.6.5 was the first I had)

Hence, the registry editor issue is the real reason why versions prior to 1.6.5 are not supported by Mete.

I have been scanning the web all day, and the list is about the same thus far.

It's nothing major, it was just going to be part of my tutorial.

o_O errrr i thought milkshape was a bad thing and is the reason that yester years is publicly canceld sooo what do you need them for unless you plan to make a virus that hunts the program down and kills it (hopefully lmao:lol:)

oh and what is milkshape anyways i hear alot of bad things about it

There is nothing wrong with milkshape itself, its just a program to create models for games, It the importer which allows people to open others models which some people have a problem with.

Milkshape is a 3D model rendering program. That is what I make ALL the models for Yesteryears with. Without Milkshape 3D, there would not be all the mods there are. Now, what you have heard bad, is from the ones attempting to hack the program so they don't have to pay money for the software. They want something free! Well Milkshape has always had a detector program coded into it to detect hack attempts is all it boils down to. The program would close if it detected these hackers.... That's all it is about. So, those people cry "Unfair" because it was not mentioned in the License of the software.... Big deal. I don't care about that, as the program is *for the pricetag*, a very very good and easy to use program.

Its cheap as anything, cheaper than buying a DVD from the store. Also does a great job and while not perfect (no program is) it does a great job and is a cheap alternative to 3DMax.

o_O errrr i thought milkshape was a bad thing and is the reason that yester years is publicly canceld.

Actually it was the importer and a pigheaded community member that caused it to become publicly cancelled on A2files.

Sorry Syf, but a program that invasively monitors what I have running without telling me, when I have no intention of hacking it, is immoral at best and spyware at worst. The fact it wasn't in an EULA is what cause that little scripts removal, since it violated licensing laws. Its like those installers that refuse to let you install a game if *shock horror* you have daemon tools or alcohol 120% installed. LEGAL programs, yes sometimes people use them nefariously but people use IE for illegal purposes, people use notepad for illegal purposes, its not the program its the user.

I've actually never had a problem with running it for the fact that all I run is it, a image editor, and maybe IE (plus my anit-virus and a few other things).

I would not go as far a saying it was spyware. Spyware usually installs programs without consent that are harmful or collects/records data and transmits it to the people that made such, as to make lists of either usage habits, or to collect other data. Also spyware is known for hijacking your browser and allowing pop-ups and/or viruses to attack your system. With the code in Milkshape, that was never the intent regardless. However, that is all addressed now in the current versions of Milkshape... so no more of that "EULA" misnomer is a concern to would be fearful people.

Now, If Milkshape is so bad.... then what other program of a comparable price is usable for modding Armada, Bridgecommander, and the dozens of other games we all love to mod? keep in mind, it has been only $20-35 for as long as I can remember. The next closest program cost a heck of a lot more. As a hobby, I would never recommend 3DS at it's $4000 pricetag for a person to poke a little fun at a game. As far as I know of, most other 3D modeling programs don't have importers and exporters that support the large list of games that Milkshape does beyond these.

Regardless, I stand firm that Milkshape is a valued program to the modding community.

Now, shall we get back on topic here.

I never said not to use Ms3d, I use it myself. In terms of good and bad (value judgements I might add) then 1.6.5 and later are "good' and prior to that the spyware thingybob in it makes it "bad". Theres no reason why anyone should want a version prior to 1.6.5 anyway.

For a historical point of view and a means of completing a tutorial I have slowly been working on, I would! That would be why I was asking anyone for the old installers.

Hi there. I want to get into contact with the OP of this thread Syf. I'm trying to also track down old Milkshape versions.

This is a bit of a shot in the dark since this thread is so old but I'm wondering if he still has them and if he can send them to me so I can archive them.

You can try sending him a PM, so even if he has mail notifications turned off, he's more likely to see it when he stops by again.

Ah okay I was confused about how to do that since I can't seem to PM him
Oh right, you need to have a certain number of posts before you can do that (and other things). I've just messaged him on your behalf, no worries.
