• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

Hello There....

Hello there, I enjoy watching primarily Star Trek and Star Wars from time to time. Also I am an avid gamer with my preferences being either Real Time Strategy or First Person Shooter computer games. I look forward to interacting with all of you.

Thank you.

Welcome to MSFC, many of us here work with Star Trek Armada 2, so you may find some of our work interesting. We are also into all forms of Sci-Fi so I think you'll fit in very well. :)

Greetings Cborg. I too play a lot of FPS games. Battlefield 2 is my main go to. Enjoy BF 2142 and BF 3, Crysis series and Fear. Which ones do you play? Any online with others or mostly single play?

@ Majestic - Armada 2 is probably my most favorite game ever. Of course I have modified it to my own satisfaction.

@ Rifraf - I do enjoy the Battlefield series of games but I do not have BF3 yet. I also Play the Call of Duty series of Games. There are only 2 games that I play online Star Trek Online and Star Wars The Old Republic.

Hey there, I play Age of Empires 3, Empire at Wars and Armada 2, those are the 3 strategy games I play the most. I have been modding Armada since 2001 when I entered the community, first with Armada 1 then Armada 2. Though at first I didn't like A2 so I went back to A1 for about 6-12 months before I gave A2 a go again.

I have played a little of TOR and have played a fair bit of STO, both I don't play at the moment as I have been working on my modding projects, YY and TCW.

I'm glad you decided to join us, how did you find us? It's great to have another gamer here join us. :)

I started with the Armada 1 demo when it came out then moved to A1 I fell in love instantly. I then moved to A2 and also fell in love. I have been modding A2 since it's inception. In my opinion A2 is easier to mod only because of everything is separated into its own folders where as A1 everything is into 1 folder. Both has it's strong points and weak points. Though I still play A1 occasionally I do play A2 much more. When I do play A1 I always have the old Battle stations Mod installed.

I don't remember where i saw this website, probably from files I have downloaded which mention this site.

Yeah I loved A1, got it as a birthday present and it barely ran on my old dinosaur. The nebulas were just dots to start with before I got a recent graphics card. I even got my online name due to this game and the endless hours playing it against the AI in instant action. I also loved the campaign, it was a great campaign much better in my opinion to the A2 one.

I agree, there are things I love about A1 and A2. That's where Fleet Ops is good as it combines the best of both and leaves out the stuff that isn't that great. Though I personally use it more for the modding options it makes available for me rather than playing it because it's a mod I like.

I do agree with you that A1's SP is way better than A2 especially the last 4. The story was very original. That's not to say that A2's campaign was bad, it was good but the only down side is that you couldn't play the Romulans. I would have liked to have seen a Romulan campaign. The Romulans help the Cardassians rebel against the Klingons or something.

I thought A2 was pretty disappointing. They had all these great ideas but they didn't really deliver. They added depth to the maps, but failed to change the build grid to compensate, fix specials that affected units on a plane, or improve the camera to make 3D easy to use. They added new ships to the existing factions, but there wasn't much point in building them. They improved the lighting system, then ramped up the ambient light on all the maps. Then they did stuff that was just a step back from A1. The ships all had almost exactly the same speed so that it was now difficult for destroyers to outrun battleships. They made ships turn 180 degrees in a tenth of a second, removing any sense of size or grace and making the disadvantages of forward firing weapons irrelevant. Then they destroyed A1's already questionable balance by making battleships so powerful and so cheap that there was no point in wasting your resources on anything else.
