Prelim draws for a Nova2 that I never finished. Thought I might try and get back into drawing. Would like some feed back before i start, thanks!

Oh, now that's a concept I haven't seen in a looooong time (which just goes to show I need to reread the Technical Manual ;) ).
Firstly, I am in awe of your drawing skills. I wished my sketches looked half as good!

I didn't like the TNG TM Nova concept as it looked cruder than the Galaxy it was described as replacing. It did however describe two features that you may want to keep in mind.

1. Modular components (which is what inspired my Righteous way back in the day). If you are following on from this then remember to not have things (such as phaser arrays) crossing over hull segments. It can be a real pain in the ass to do this.
2. Variable geometry pylons. Which looking at it meant that the nacelles moved along the length of the pylon which would be an absolute engineering nightmare worse than Voyagers folding pylons. Lets shoot high energy plasma down a tube that changes in that has to collapse and expand somehow!! If you are planning on following this then you need to make sure the nacelle path is not obstructed.

Regarding your updates, I like where you are going. The earlier ones (while incredibly detailed) had a somewhat cruder geometry than the Galaxy (just like in the technical manual). This one seems more organic and seems to draw on the Probart Ambassador (which I adore) for inspiration and I think it makes the design so much better.

I think that the larger saucer in your Nova2top file fits the design better than the smaller saucer. I also like the asymmetrical nacelles as they work well with your curved pylons.

Kjc733 thanks for taking the time to look over my drawings. Its nice to have someone that actually appreciates my work. Your right in that my first nova was heavily based on the THG TM, plus I was like 14 and heavy into cannon ideas. So with a year or so wrapped up in the first drawings I came to the same conclusions. I hated the nacelles and wanted sleek ones, I want to add some lines to the engineering section to mimic the Excelsior II, I needed a larger saucer to incorporate an internal warp drive and deflector dish, and I want to update the hole design to be sleeker.

As to your point of the modular section I did incorporate them but I guess they didn't show up well. I'll have to do a better job this time around so thanks for the heads up.

I soooo agree with you that movable pylons and nacelles are a REALLY BAD idea! I didn't have them in my first design and the N2 won't either. Besides if you want to modulate warp fields having the internal warp coils move would be a better idea imo;)

Again thanks and I hope to have new drawing soon.

Update:)

I think I'm going to change the name of my ship to Phoenix Class since the nova is a "cannon" ship. The updated file should show up better now. I also add some specs. I need some help on the Type of fighters and shuttles I should spec out. Comments are welcome.
