• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

Has anyone played Star Trek Armada 3?

I have seen a lot about this mod for SOASE. It looks freaking awesome. I have watched the vids and I was blown away. Really debating about buying sins just to play it.

Oh yesh, they've got some badass talent like Wiley firing on all cylinders with their dev team. I'm considering the same route too just to try the mod out.

I have Sins Rebellion on Steam but never played the mod. Mainly due to limited space on this laptop. When I build a gaming rig I'll be sure to try it out although I am more interested in their new project tbh.

Wonder if that mod will end up caught in the maelstrom of the lawsuit...Hopefully not.

Edit: Never mind, looks like they pulled the plug when the lawsuit was filed. Crapdoodle...
Due to this team being made up of volunteers and the prospect of our own work being targeted in the future we have come to a group decision that we can no longer continue work on this particular titled mod.

However our Art Assets concepts and ideas will make an appearance in our new piece of Armada 3 called The Lost Years which was under existing development.

We are saddened to have to abandon our work on this mod and we hope that you can understand why and continue to support us with Armada 3 and The Lost Years Universe, Where we will adapt our gameplay tactics into this new endeavour.

To all our fans thank you for supporting us and Live Long and Prosper!

That's a shame but understandable. I hope they show some info about this new Lost Years project soon.

Yeah, Wiley is pretty awesome. I still have his JJPrise you converted back in the day. If that's the kind of quality they put into A3, I want to give that a try some time.

Is the game itself any good, Maj? I think it's on Steam sale right now, and I'm considering grabbing a copy.

I thought the engine was good, but I felt like the mechanics were a bit more complicated than I prefer.

I agree with my friend Zelph here. The mechanics are a little too much on the complicated side. If you can pick it up cheap enough. Actually Terra I have a free Steam copy if you want it I can gift it to you. You can add me on steam: majestic_msfc

I personally found way too much micro management was involved. I personally prefer the way A2 and Star Wars EAW Plays out.

Eh, set unit powers to autocast, set waypoints for your shipyards, and just throw lots of everything at the problem! How can this go wrong?

Added. I'm not yet sure whether I'll take you up on your offer - the whole package is really cheap right now - but thanks anyway! :)

I've been debating downloading, despite the initial reservations. I need a good game as a de-stresser for work these days.

I bought Sins purely for Armada 3 and it is well worth it. And whilst I was at it I've downloaded Sins of a Galactic Empire too.

I enjoy playing as the Romulans and the Klingons the most. I had to disable the Pirates though as they keep killing off my opponents before I can launch attacks with my patiently built up fleets, the Pirates seem to be an often complained about part of even regular Sins it seems.

Now that I've played the stock game a bit, I see what you said about the complexity. The 4X side of the game definitely makes an impact on the gameplay. It's interesting to see this in a real-time game, if the level of detail were any higher it would probably need to be turn-based.

I actually have a weakness for 4Xes - I've dreamed of writing my own super-detailed 4X for a long time. Oh well, daydreams of a kitteh I guess. ;)

EDIT: Oh, and I totally agree that the pirates are kind of meh. Good to hear that they can be turned off.

I tried to install it, but it seems the latest DLC messed horribly with the mod. I´ve got it work, and it looks awesome, but only till it crashes.....so after 15 minutes.
And yeah, its a little much micromanagement.
This here works like a charm tho.

I have not played the base game, Sins of a Solar Empire but read many great reviews about it.

The screenshots for "Armada 3" look pretty amazing. Sadly my computer is an old Dell I bought in like 2004 or so and cannot be upgraded more than it has. I'm pretty sure I can't run the game. Anything after Mass Effect 2 hasn't worked on my computer. I mean sheesh, I'm still running XP here. :lol2:

If I ever get a newer comp, I'll definitely try it.
