The game is a prequel to Halo: Combat Evolved, taking place during Halo: The Fall of Reach and the beginning of Halo: First Strike when there are many Spartan-IIs still in action. The trailer shows the colony Reach under attack by Covenant battleships orbiting the planet.

Halo: Reach was officially announced on June 1, 2009 at the Microsoft E3 2009 press conference. A trailer was shown and details were released including setting and timeline. The game takes place before the events of Halo: Combat Evolved. It was also announced that an invitation to the open multiplayer beta of the game will be available to those who purchase Halo 3: ODST.

The game will be the last in the Halo franchise to be developed by Bungie before they begin work on newer projects.[5] The development of future Halo games will be overseen by Microsoft subsidiary 343 Industries.

Halo Reach as stated above takes place before Halo 1. This should prove interesting and answer some much asked questions. I hope in this one you can choose what Spartan you can play, including gender. :)

This one is certainly on my wish list.

Oh and a honourable note, the last Halo game Bungie will develop. I sure hope 343 Industries (named after 343 Guilty Spark no doubt) will achieve the same level of quality as Bungie has in the past.

It's games like this that really make me wish I had a 360. Fortunately, refurbished ones are getting rather cheap.

GRR HULK SM... say what? re furb XBOX for cheap...

Yeah, Ive thought about this - I even looked into it, but 150£ (1000NOK) for a second hand XBOX is a little steep... i might wait and get the new slim one... looks nicer...

I cannot wait to play REACH though - how do the new armor abilities affect the play - I heard the ditched the whole item system AND got rid of dual wield?? (I was always a sniper rifle / energy sword combo kinda guy anyways...)

Yeah I am not happy about not being able to dual weapon anymore, I can understand in ODST not having it but in Reach where you play Noble 6 a Spartan you should still be able to do it.

I actulally am starting to like the Grenade Launcher, while it can only hold a max of 15, it actually comes in very handy with large groups, as Jasoneagle discovered in our game. I used it a bit against him and his Covenant allies. Yes there is a new game mode in firefight where players can go on the Covenant side, as an Elite and have infinate lives while Spartan players don't, however for every enemy player they kill they gain a life. Towards the end of our game I had a total of 20 lives.

There is a fair amount of new weapons added to Reach, I rather like the DMR, basically the Battlerifle but only shoots one bullet at the time. The Covenant Needle Rifle, the counterpart to the DMR is also a favourite of mine.

The new armour features work well, I really like the Hologram, which Jasoneagle used quite effectively against me numerous times. I fell for it far too often till I picked up on his tactics (or rather, Katala pointed it out to me). The Drop shield is another great feature, as it also recharges your shield and health meters. Yes health like Halo 1 is back. I am not a fan of armour lockup, but it has it's advantages if a Ghost or Revenant is charging at you, as if they hit you with it active they'll blow up in a big boom and light show.

I did however find the game cinema ending a little weak, but they did leave it open:

I feel they have several options here, Jun (Noble 3) wasn't seen after he left to escort the Doctor at the end of the third last level. So we didn't see him die unlike the rest of Noble team. So a game where he is the main character could work.

Another option is Noble 6, at least in Normal he isn't seen being killed, he could have survived and become part of a Reach Resistance on the now Covenant dominated planet and it could tie in with Halo 1 and 2, especially the Elite Rebellion against the Covenant.

I am really looking forward to seeing what they cook up next. :)

I truely hope they re-do at least Halo 1 to Reach standards, I would certainly buy it even though I have Halo 1 still for my Xbox.

Bought HALO for the PC out of the bargain bin at Wal Mart. Loved it the first time I played it. Still on my HDD and a refreshing change from all the strategy I normally prefer. My son has the rest of the HALO games for his XBox. Haven't really done more than dabble in them, But they seem to be okay. I am unsure about the dual wield function because I could never manage it well enough to make it effective. My favorite weapons in HALO are still the pistol and hand grenades. My only complaint about the grenades is I cannot carry enough of them. I still play HALO online once in awhile.

Is Reach going to be the final HALO game? I cannot imagine the devs have very much material left for new stories.

it is, but there is supposed to be a huge new deal that has been cut for a completely new series of games. We will have to see what the future holds.
