Started this past Sunday (both in the US and UK if I'm right). It's based off a set of books (A Song of Ice and Fire) and looks to be an interesting series. If what I've read is right, there are eight books either written, or in production; two of which are large ones, that's a total of ten seasons (estimated).

I'll be the first to admit that, having viewed the first episode, I thought it quite... dull until about 1/3rd the way through where a few things kicked off. It's a medieval - fantasy based show, set in mythical lands. Sean Bean is one of the main actors in the franchise too, so there's one big name behind it at least; as is Jason Momoa (SGA's Ronon Dex).

It's promising.

I've read about this about a month ago. Since then I'm waiting for the premiere. I did not read any of the books, but the series seems to be promising. I think I have to spare some money for some books :)

The traveler looks rather interesting, I really like Medievil and old greek movies and shows and this looks like it might be worth watching.

I'll be sure to look into this when it comes to the land down under.

Someone I know is recording it. I will need to check it out at some point. Looks interesting.
Should help get Momoa more well known (for those who don't already know who he is) before the new Conan movie comes out.

There are 4 books currently available with 4 more apparently on the way, although we've been waiting 6 years for the 5th book to come out (with the release date changing as regularly as a new born's nappy...).
A few episodes in and my wife and I are actually enjoying the series more than we thought we would, it's staying pretty close to the book although it feels alot like an abridged version lol (also some scenes and characters have been changed slightly from the book for I think more "dramatic" affect or something).

I think the casting choices for the most part have been really spot on, especially the actor playing Tyrion, who is shaping up to be my favourite character in the tv series.

Like most people I saw the show on TV and was hooked. Since then I have heard every book in my car on the way too and from work. Unabridged is my favorite way to listen as the writer internal monologues all the time. From what I've read online the Author actually wrote the pilot episode and it's no surprise as he was a main writer on Beauty and the Beast, the TV show starring the guy from Hellboy. Anyways, I really like the books because they are chapterized by the lead characters so you can read it once all the way through and get the gist of the story, and then read it again from just the characters point of view and its like a short story without breaks. At over 1000 pages per book I can appreciate them making at least 10 episodes for the series. Harry Potter is so cut up in the movies it losses a lot of the story for action. The fifth book did come out this year so it really finishes up the red feast storyline. There are more side stories in this universe as he has many short stories and novellas that add to the history of Westeros. I would like to see some more of the action scenes from the books, but I can appreciate that the TV show stories are more about the people in them. I can't think of another show quite like this. Maybe Camelot, but I think the direction was terrible so it is no wonder that show got cancelled after one season. Will the show last 5 to 7 years? Dexter has and I kind of thought they were done at Season 3, but there you go.
