• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

Instead of going through the install process for Armada 2 can I just make an Activision folder on my C drive then put a folder inside that named Star Trek Armada II then just copy everything from saved copy into the STA II folder, make a shortcut to the executable and then I have a working game?

From my experience, you can copy-paste your A2 directory as often as you want and to different computers. You may not even have to put it in the C:/Programs/Activision/. I put mine on an external HDD so I don't always have to copy stuff around.

You only need to install the game once, after that copy and paste where you like until your heart is content. Although it does start to take a lot of space when you have multiple installs going for different mods.

That's the beauty of the FO mod system, save son space and we only need one install, something A2 should had come with by default, although we all know A2 was incomplete and time of release.

Thank you both. I was inquiring because I wanted to quickly be able to dump the files into a folder and have a game instead of going through the whole install process every time.

This works because A2 isn't dependent on any pre-existing registry keys and the few files that aren't in the program's root directory are automatically generated on first run. Even if that wasn't true, a short BAT file could easily be made that generates the registry keys and installs the remaining files. And now I just realized how to avoid entering a CD key for any of my current games ever again.
