• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

Howdy y'all,

I just created an Eve Online account but I have not yet downloaded the client. I was curious if anyone here is playing. If so, any tips or suggestions before I get started.

I haven't played Eve, but I hear that starship insurance is important if you want to get most of your ship's value back after it inevitably gets destroyed. Stay away from wormholes until you know exactly what you're doing. And make sure that if you own a space station, get the rent paid on time so you don't accidentally spark a war.

Your post also made my find out that the game is now free-to-play, so I'm going to check that out.

Oh, and watch out for the learning cliff.

Sounds like good advice. Thanks.

This is what prompted me to set up an account as well. I don't really expect to get into it too heavily. The only other MMO than STO that I play even semi regularly is Neverwinter. I play SW:TOR when get bored with the other two but I always go back.

Now that's funny right there.

I have started playing now. I find this game more interesting than I thought I would.

I have fell victim to another player for the first time the other day. I was wanting to do some crafting and needed some materials that can only be mined in low security areas. Knowing the risks, I went to one such area in my mining frigate. Equipped with only two mining lasers, I was out gathering the resources I required. I looked though the lists of players that was showing next to the chat window and seen a player marked as a suspect. I kept watch on my radar for any hostiles and none appeared. Then out of nowhere, he swops in and blows up my frigate. If that weren't enough, he destroys my capsule as well. Most people I have encountered so far have been nice to that point. Hopefully, next time we meet, I will not be such an easy target.

I currently have two characters:

Nathan Scionis of the Gallente Federation.

Rayjah Arbosa of the Minmatar Republic.

Been playing this game more and more recently. Hopefully soon I will be able to get my money situation in order and go to an Omega account. I am enjoying it more than I ever thought I would.

In case you are wondering: Eve is now a hybrid game like SW:TOR and STO. Free players are called Alpha Clones and paid players are Omega Clones.

I joined a corporation on my main character. Seems like a good group of players. Mostly new players like myself. If anyone is trying it out and is interested in joining, let me know.

I played Eve Online for about 5 or 6 years. Perhaps longer... I don't really recall. But Anyways, That game was pretty enjoyable for me for a long time until people started to become trolls. It became non-stop harassment in High Sec. I wasn't involved in any wars, or alliances, I just wanted to run missions and mine ore.

Your post also made my find out that the game is now free-to-play, so I'm going to check that out.

Free-to-play you say...

I downloaded it through Steam and logged into my old account. In order for me to use all of my stuff I have accumulated I have to "upgrade" to an Omega Clone. I can't even train skills without upgrading, which requires buying a subscription. No Thanks :(

Yeah, it's more of a freemium model than a true FTP model.
