Hello:
I am not sure if you have seen in the news, but an earthquake happened las night 03:35am local time (out timezone is gmt -4... I think) that was 8.3 -> 8.8 in the Richter scale. The earthquake happened in the center/southern regions of my country so I was not affected, but still I wanted to let you know I am ok and that my relatives and friends that live in the affected zones are ok too.

I am happy to hear that you and your family are ok.

Lets now hope for the best for the rest of the Pacific Rim this evening. A Tsunami is expected to hit Hawaii soon. They said that it could go in as far as a mile inland. Other areas that could be affected include Japan, Korea, South Pacific, and even parts of Australia.

Prayers for everyone.

I was the same, I am glad you and your family weren't involved. I still remember the 89 earthquake here in Newcastle, Australia. It was the last earthquake to my knowledge here in AU, it was a big one and tore down half the city, and some places still aren't rebuilt in town.

Keep safe mate.

The east coast of Australia has been put on high alert for damaging waves etc due to an incoming Tsunami and we have been warned to stay away from beaches etc due to these damaging waves. And here I was hoping we could go to the beach today! how rude!

Good news out of Hawaii. The waves never got but 3 to 4 ft above normal. There was absolutely no damage in Hawaii. Japan has also issued a high alert. Lets just hope the rest of the Pacific Rim is as lucky as Hawaii.

Saw on the BBC news feed this AM(for me) where aftershocks are continuing. Some of them have been as large as 6.9. BBC also has some stunning pics of the aftermath. My prayers and hopes go out for all the Chilean people.

Same here, really glad to hear that you and your family are OK mate.

It seems to be one disaster after another around the world lately, very worrying.

Stay safe Chile, my thoughts are with you and the others affected by this.

The toll has risen to 700, and that's quite a lot considering any scale, let alone the fact that Chile seems to be great on building codes and safety regulations. It was utterly mortifying to see fires starting up from it. Much of the toll came from Concepcion, and it just looks awful there from what I've seen. I'm glad to see that no one from here was hurt, but it's quite a lot of people who aren't in good shape now. Chiletrek, may the situation there for you and your family and friends remain safe.

It's good to hear you and your family are safe, Chiletrek. I even heard on the news some tsunamis struck Chile in the aftermath.
As others have said, my thoughts are with you and stay safe.

Hello:
And thank you for all of your support.
Yes, the death polls has indeed raised, but about half of them was because the people of a town did not get the proper warning and it was erased from the map by one of the tsunamies.... it was too awful.
Let's hope things will begin to return to normal soon.
