• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

Do you impulse buy or plan your game purchases?

I was thinking about this tonite and wondered what others thought. When it comes to PC/console games you buy do you generally plan on which ones to purchase or are you more of an impulse buyer?

I guess most people would be a mix of both. I know I am. Some I follow from first announcement to release and then other times when I'm in the store I might pick something up that looks interesting or while browsing online. Though the downside of that is I just found 3 games I've impulse bought the last year and never even opened yet.

I usually only buy what I really want, so I plan it. Like for the Xbox One I know I will be getting the "Rise of the Tomb Raider", "Halo 5", "Star Wars Battlefront" and "Max Mad" this year. Very little else I think I will buy.

I like to see a game before I buy it, unless it's something I have been following or had played the predecessor. If Halo 5 isn't any good, much like Halo 4 was then I think I'll be leaving the franchise behind. I wasn't planning on getting Mad Max, however my brother got it for the PC and the sister got it for the Xbox One and it looks pretty good. So it's been added to my list.

Honestly, I haven't bought a new game (PC or otherwise) in ages. However, when I do, it's usually either from a franchise I've enjoyed in the past (and thus have been hyped for its release) or something I've seen other people play (and really wanted to play for myself). So I typically think my game purchases through a lot.

Ironically, the only game I've ever really bought impulsively was A2. True story. :)

I usually plan what I buy, sometimes years in advance, but I'll impulse buy if there's a really good deal. Mass Effect and Bioshock were impulse buys, but the sale price was practically giving them away. The ME trilogy for $5 and the Bioshock trilogy for $10. I had never played either one but I've spent less money buying fast food for just myself so it wasn't exactly a wasted investment if I didn't like them. I usually check critical and customer reviews before I decide to buy a game, though, and sometimes I'll look up some gameplay videos.
